It was a bit of a struggle to get up this morning after last night's nightmare. It was difficult for me to get back to sleep after I had woken up in the middle of the night. Every week we would move to a different destination, this week it was a mall. We were in one of the stores located in the mall, eating a loaf of bread we had found. While we were eating Kate was writing and Dillan was playing with a dog we found not too long ago named Max. I looked up at Kate wondering how she could handle it all, she lost everybody, her mom and her brother Julius...Julius, she and him were together like glue, when he died she fell apart and wouldn't talk to anybody for days, after a while, she got herself together and was less emotional and more frank. I continued looking at Kate and after a while, she said "if you snapped a picture it would last longer" without even looking up. I quickly glanced at the floor and blushed a tad, Dillan got up, took a deep breath, and told us he was planning to do a little more exploring. Dillan is a funny and friendly person, his mother died when he was a child before the flesh-eating zombies took over. Dillan's dad left him with his aunt who was affected by the disease. Dillan and I have been friends for a long time, we found Kate and Julius during our journey. I asked Kate "How do you deal with it?" without looking at her, and Kate said "What do you mean?" she stared at me as if she knew exactly what I was talking about, but instead she said "what do you mean?", "you know like the deaths and stuff, I mean out of all my life I've never felt a pain like this perhaps since me and Mari were in foster care and never met our parents, and now she's dead, but you have lost many and yet you seem fine." She looked away as if trying to hold back tears," I'm sorry that's not what I mean- "It's ok, and the answer is well… I don't know, I guess you could say Since I lost so many people I had to get used to it, yeah it was difficult, but pouting about it wasn't going to bring them back. "Oh" I turned back to finish off the last of my bread and thought about how we all had to become young adults. After the spread, every kid in the world would quickly have to grow up or die. There wasn't any time to be a kid anymore. Last night...when I told you to forget about Mari that's not what I meant, Just don't beat yourself up about it. Oh, no problem I wasn't-it didn't-shush-what is it-shut up I hear something. Kate and I got ready to attack, when we saw Dillan come around the corner we let out a sigh of relief. YO, you guys will not believe what I found, Dillan said coming around the corner. What is it? I said a little more excitedly than I had meant. A car!
