Chapter 2 - Prologue 2: Tragedy at the Last Shelter

In the facility where the Escarra Company made their jewelries, took shelter the thousands of remaining citizens of the province. It is for the request of the leader o the company's friend, Senator Villaverde.

The government sometimes offers them support but because of this problem as well in the world they can't offer that much. Sometimes it's the Escarra Company that supports their needs. Of course, this can't do that forever so the government issued an evacuation plan once the ships they sent here arrived. But the problem is the only port near the place was on Samar which is now, ground zero.

"The supply they brought would last for another month. They also said that there are troops assigned to guard at the main road one kilometer away and at the bridge at the other one."

A woman in her thirties said.

The man, Alvino Escarra nodded. "That's reassuring to hear, especially if they have tanks with them. But... another month huh." He looked around the area. "There are lots of children here, elders and people with sickness and we can assume that most of them developed trauma after what they've experienced. Keeping them under our control might be hard."

"I agree. Last month they said that by next month they'll be evacuated to a much better place. But now it's like they really wanted you to take the responsibility to all of them."

"A much better place? Do you think such a place still exists?" The woman bowed her head after hearing it. "From the start they wanted us to take care of all these people."

"Was it a bad decision to take them in?"

"The amount of gunpowder they gave us was quite a lot, so I won't say it wasn't a bad idea."

The two freely conversed despite being surrounded by a lot of people.

While they're walking, a girl suddenly bumped on Alvino's shoulder. That girl is in a scarlet robe with a hood. The girl continued on walking like nothing happened.

After the girl, a man in a camouflage uniform stood in front of them.

"Were about to leave, do you have a message for us to bring."

Alvino smiled. "Too many. But instead, I want you to look around and judge what do all of these people need."

The soldier did look around at the people. Despite the number of people inside the room's not that noisy. Many of them are quiet while their dead eyes stared into space. The soldier looks back at Alvino with a sharp gaze before turning around and walking away.

As the soldier leaves, his attention turns towards his wife. Who caught her attention earlier.

"Han. Han. HONEY!" He shouted but his wife still didn't pay attention.

She looked bothered while her eyes keep on looking in any direction.

"Odette!" He shouted

Alvino touched her shoulder which startled Odette. But Odette regained herself.

"Thank god you are here. I can't find Anzai or even Aaliyah."

"That's all?"

Odette narrowed her eyes.

"That's all?"

Alvino made a stiff expression.

"A- A- I mean, don't worry too much he's probably just hiding from you. Put yourself in his position if your mother makes you kneel on salt while reading a book you're going to hide from her too."

Odette becomes droopy.

"Does that mean that Anzai is scared of me?"

"Probably, but come on it will be blown away soon."

Instead of listening to her husband, Odette glared at him.

"It's all your fault." She mumbled.

"Huh?"

"It's your fault. If you disciplined him good enough and stopped spoiling him too much then I wouldn't have to punish him like that!"

Alvino stepped on step backward. Odette pressed her index to his chest.

'You were spoiling him too.' on his mind but he couldn't do it.

"Go ahead search for him so I could apologize."

After blowing steams, she give him a sharp glare as she ordered him.

Meanwhile, Elena behind him chuckled.

He couldn't do anything but turn around and walked away to search for his son.

When he passed through the entrance of the building, he caught a glimpse at the Military truck that should've left by now. He go out and approached the people outside.

"What's going on? Why aren't you still here?" he asked the man in military uniform.

"There's a problem, the keys are missing."

After hearing it Alvino headed to the hut where the police officers are. They were all looking inside the room.

Alvino entered it.

"So where did you last put those keys," Alvino asked.

"Just in this hook sir." The officer said while pointing in the hook attached to the side of the room.

Alvino turns his eyes to all of the officers inside?

"Where's Gatos?"

After hearing it, the police looked at each other.

Which built suspicion to him.

"The truth is your son had been here before the keys went missing. Right now Chief Gatos was searching for him to find out if he's the one who took the keys."

"Anzai?"

His chest pumped loudly and felt something strange in his body.

He runs outside and towards the other gate at the right side of the back of the building. He tried to open the door but it won't open. It's locked, but the problem is it's locked from the outside. He rushed back towards the building to get one of the bombs they made.

Meanwhile back at the front gate since the keys are missing, the military grew tired of waiting. He points his rifle to the lock and pulls the trigger. The lock broke open then he removed the chain and pushed the bamboo gate open.

The engine of the military truck rumbles as the soldier opened the gate.

The gate is halfway open but for some reason, the soldier stopped moving. When the military truck beeped on him the soldier turn around with bulging eyes and a grim expression. He opened his mouth but before words came out another military truck flew towards him crushing him as if he's just an insect, along with the gate. The military truck keep on rolling before it clashed with the other military vehicle parked inside, wrecking both of it and killing the soldiers in the front seat.

The other soldiers managed to get off. They positioned their gun in front of them and slowly head towards the destroyed gate with their eyes on the sights.

The police on the hut joined them as well. When they reached the destroyed entrance the captain raised his hand to stop them. They stood still while looking at the scene at the road up ahead.

The well-trained bodies of the soldiers tremble while an unconcealed terror crept on their faces.

"They're…..coming."

A man with a similar title in his uniform as the captain extended his hand after seeing them. A seven feet tall black creature with a mist body was holding him. It has wide droopy eyes and this one has a wide grinning smile on its face. As the creature tightened his grip, it began tearing the soldier's body.

Not just him but the entire troop that's supposed to be guarding were all wiped out and being treated as the meal of the creatures.

There are also two images at the very back of these creatures, one has a broad body and the other one was tall and somewhat has a strange figure of the lower body.

Some of these black mist creatures have sad expressions on their faces as if, they're lonely that they don't get to have prey. But then one of them noticed the people at the entrance.

It looked at them for a while before it twist its head and a wide grin crept on its face.

The soldiers stiffed upon seeing the creature rush towards them.

"Captain! Your order!"

The captain just closed his eyes.

"Captain!" "Captain!" "What to do? Captain!"

The soldiers screamed to their captain. Their hands are shaking while griping on the rifles.

The captain dropped his weapon and clenched his teeth.

He took one of his grenades and pull the pin. "Police officers go back to the building and warn Mr. Escarra about this."

He threw the grenade. It blew off mid-air destroying the body of the creature.

Bullets or any other physical attacks don't work on them. However due to the several clashes between the military and this creature it had been discovered that explosives work on them.

The noise caught the attention of the other creatures on the back.

He gets another grenade.

"Be ready. We'll bring what the people need."

As he said that they dropped their guns and get their grenade.

Without asking any questions, and complaints they pulled the pin of the grenades and threw it.

...….

The policemen run towards the building and searched for Alvino. Even just from the outside, the noise of the people can be heard. The people inside are in panic and wanted to get out but there are some people including Odette and Alvino's secretary trying to control the situation. Upon seeing the officers they asked what happened outside but instead of answering, they asked where Alvino is. The people who saw him pointed towards a room where they said Alvino hurriedly enter. The two of the officers entered the room while the others helped control the situation.

The room was usually locked but at the moment it wasn't. They slip in through the door that leads them to an underground staircase. At the bottom of the stairs was an open door which give them a good vision of what was inside.

There are five long tables placed horizontally. On top of those tables are sphere-shaped bombs that are placed on trays, like eggs.

Alvino gets out of the room. He stopped as he saw the two police.

"Mr. Escarra! The enemies are approaching. The military troops that were yet to arrive had been completely wiped out. Right now as we speak, Captain Bautista and his troops are fending off against the mist creatures." the police clenched his jaw and gripped his rifle at the same time. "To be honest I doubt that they'll last for long."

Alvino gripped into the ball he was holding.

"Why now?" he mumbled.

The usual levelheaded man furrowed his eyebrow with his downcast head.

"The situation on the top is getting worse we need you to control the situation." The police said.

Alvino turned around. "You two, get as many of these bombs as you can. It's sensitive to heat and will explode if you dropped it to the ground. Bring it to the soldiers."

The police look at the spheres.

"Those are bombs?"

Alvino didn't answer him. Instead, he faces the people inside.

"Listen up!" he yelled at them. "The enemies found out our location. Right now we are being invaded by them. Some of the soldiers are fighting for us but they won't hold out for long. I'll meet you at the roof of the building."

Alvino didn't wait for their response before he turn his back at them.

The two police get the bombs and placed them on a box that have holes in it. The bombs are a perfect fit on hand, it's the same size as a billiard ball which makes them doubt its efficiency. The workers do the same thing. They keep their selves silent as their trembling hand grab the bombs.

Alvino runs through the stairs. Building a way to resolve the situation. Breathing in and out to calm himself. But every time he did the image of his son appeared on his mind.

'Anzai.'
