Chapter 5 - Prologue 5: Survive!

After Alvino made a decision, the evacuation of the people started. On the road at the back of the mountain, they gathered, pushing each other while loading the buses and trucks prepared for them. Tremor all over their body, whimpering with vacant stares, some of them are fighting for position and even just simply bumping each other, they haven't even recovered yet but here it is again threatening to annihilate them. Not that riding a bus will save them since most places in the country, in the world rather are being invaded by this creature that suddenly appeared in their life.

It is said that people show their true colors once they faced a life and death situation. But this wasn't just the only thing that they were enlightened with.

After the two strong waves earlier their desperation to leave grew. Elena, Alvino's secretary, placed her child inside the bus. Her daughter was crying as she left her behind to go back to Odette who was searching for her son. Odette said that Elena should've gone with her daughter but she insisted to stay and help her.

Anzai sneaked together with Aaliyah in the other gate which they uses as an escape route. She's hoping that she'll find her son on the way but unfortunately, she didn't.

There's a river nearby which she concluded where her son is. They planned to go there to find him but they had been delayed by the ruckus by the people.

One of the busses won't start its engine. The driver keeps on turning the key, but the bus just made a short rumbling then stopped.

"Damn it!" the driver shake the stirring wheel once. "Why won't you start?!"

After hearing the driver the people started to rush out of the bus. They went to the other one but that bus is already full and can't possibly load any more of them. Even knowing that the people outside still attempted to force themselves inside. But one of the men inside shut the sliding door.

The people outside scattered to ride another one but many of them did the same and even started to leave one after the other.

Some of them tried to stop them but the drivers just ignored them and even boost up their speed.

One of them, a man at his forty's sat down on the corner biting his nails, he occasionally stopped and mumbled something as he looked into the bus in front of them. His eyes reddened as he stared at it.

"Unfair."

He grabbed something from his back pocket and run towards the bus. He raised his hand with 6 inches pointed steel bar and pierced one of the busses wheels. The wind gushes out of the rubber. He looked into the other one but they restrained him.

"What do you think you're doing?! Are you insane?!"

"Let go! Let go of me!"

The man flailed as the people around him pinned him down. He shot terrified eyes into them.

"Don't you think the same! If I'm gonna die then I would drag them with me!"

"What are you saying? There are still people out there fighting for us. How can you say that?! Besides if that's going to happen, wouldn't it be better if some of us survived!"

The man stopped on flailing.

After damaging the rear wheel of the bus it moved at a slow pace and wiggly. Because of this, the bus driver demanded to decrease the number of passengers inside. There are some who voluntarily stepped out of the bus including Elena's daughter who run towards her mother and hugged her.

"Okay, you can come with us but don't leave mommy's side."

The child nodded

Odette stared at them before she searched for her son.

"Don't worry ma'am. Just as the boss says, your son is smart so he'll be safe."

Odette nodded to Elena's comforting words. "Haven't I told you to just call me by my name?"

The bus started moving at a slow speed. The people who got left behind sat and trembled. Some of them tried to cheer each other. As they stare at the bus that's going far and far something bumped it at the side. It wasn't clear to them because some trees blocked it. But it all made clear when consecutive of it pushed the bus down.

A horde of these black mist creatures trampled the bus. They broke the glasses and reached out for the people inside. Some of them tried to get away by breaking the back glass pane and the front windshield. But the grinning creatures just leaped towards them. Those they grabbed by the feet will be slung again and again to the ground and those who were down will be stepped in several times until they broke their head.

Their voices reached the people who got left behind, which made them panic and run to get away from these creatures heading back to the building. Assuming that they can still get protection in there. But in that way, several people are racing away from it. These are the workers of the company. There are only a few of them left compared to the number of them earlier. The soldiers and the policemen weren't anywhere. They tightened their lips with their eye losing their ability to blink. Not far from their back emerged an uncountable number of these creatures wearing a wide creepy grin on their pitch-black face-pulling each other as they chase after them as if they're fighting on whose going to get their pray. One of these people tripped, he grabbed the feet of the other man.

"Please help me. I don't want to die!" he cried with his trembling voice.

The man looked at him with his bulging eyes. "Sorry. But I don't want to either." he kicked the guy in the hands and in the face until it let go of him.

The man tried t get up but before he can two of these creatures grabbed him with both hands. The man screamed loudly with tears overflowing his eyes but no one even bother to hear it as they scattered into the forest. These two creatures screamed at each other as they pull their arms, like kids fighting for toys. One of the man's arms tears off, before he could scream the creature whose holding his other arm open its mouth on his amputated arm and suck his soul out leaving his body pale and dry.

After it, the creature's head split into two and soon his whole body seemed to split into two.

Meanwhile, Elena carried her daughter and dragged Odette by the hand. Odette seemed to be shaken by what he had just witnessed. Her husband wasn't one of those who run away from the building which can only mean one thing.

"Ma— Odette, let's just find your son okay."

Odette didn't answer as they run away into the woods along with a middle-aged man carrying a woman on his back. The man was a shareholder at the company and a friend of Alvino. He looked at the distressed Odette with pity. Even he can't believe it as well.

They go deep into the forest And found themselves at a giant bamboo tree. It's near a river and on the other side of it was a nearby road.

As they passed through it Elena suddenly stopped as her eyes caught something. She walked towards it and bent her body to pick it up. It's keys, the keys that went missing earlier.

"Odette look!"

she raised the keys in front of her.

"Keys?" at first she didn't get why, but after a few minutes, her eyes opened wide. "Is that the keys from the building?!"

Elena nodded.

Odette began searching the place. Elena put down her daughter to help her. Odette found a pile of bamboo leaves and a trail further ahead.

"If your gonna continue searching. We'll go ahead and cross the river. We'll try to find a car we could use."

"Alright, but could you please wait for us. For Ma'am Odette's sake please let us get on that ride with you."

"Please be quick. We don't know how much time it needed before those creatures reached here."

"Okay."

The man turned around and run down the slope into the river.

Meanwhile, with her daughter still in her arms, they trace the track that Odette found earlier.

On the same path, there's a mark that looks like somebody rolled down to it. On the end of that track, on a giant tree there they found the two. What they saw surprised the two of them. There was Anzai in a tree and on her side was Aaliyah, both of them are peacefully sleeping while their heads are leaning on each other.

Odette run towards Anzai and gave her a tight long hug. Tears slowly run through her cheeks as she saw his son safe and unharmed.
