Chapter 45 - First signs of hostility

"That's the head of the Baum family!"

Whispers among those present began to spread, "There seems to be conflict between that boy and the Baum family, I feel sorry for him."

The chilling aura that covered the entire area, left Rada speechless. For the first time in a long time he felt fear again. But it was different from that time in the forest, because in front of the man he felt an uncontrollable fear coming from the depths of his soul.

His instincts were screaming at him to run away, but his body was not responding. Without even realizing it, he found himself paralyzed.

"Hey!!! Wake up!"

Suddenly, Kiba's voice shook him.

"His aura is crushing you! You must fight it!" he exclaimed loudly.

(I-in what way? I have no idea what's going on!) replied the boy, he was still confused by what was happening to him.

Without further hesitation, Kiba released his golden aura that slowly enveloped him.

(But what...)

Inside, Rada felt an inexplicable but pleasant sensation, it was as if he was bathed in the warmth of light. The chilling aura from before seemed like an old memory, a memory he would hardly forget.

(Thank you Kiba) he finally breathed a sigh of relief.

(It seems that the paralyzing effect is amplified by his element, be careful, that guy is dangerous.)

Despite having an arrogant nature, Kiba was no fool, he remained on guard against the dangerous threat before them.

(That puppy's aura dispersed the paralyzing effect of mine, interestingly enough...) Kiba's actions did not go unnoticed by Aaron Baum's eyes that sharpened like a blade.

"Head of the Baum family what does this behavior mean!"

Rei tried to stand up for Rada by asking for an explanation, however the answer she received was not very pleasant.

"The Bran's daughter is certainly brave, but she shouldn't meddle in problems that don't concern her."

The man's icy stare sent shivers down the girl's spine, and she instinctively clutched Rada's arm. The latter was surprised at the girl's reaction, instinctively seeking support.

"You bring a really interesting puppy there with you," Aaron said in a piercing voice. His voice reached the boy's ears like a blade.

"Oh thank you, you are?"

For his part, Rada tried to put on a good face. Despite the tension, he tried to remain calm and focused, moreover he doubted that the man would be able to do anything among all those people.

Although he already had a taste of his danger.

"Aaron Baum, head of the Baum clan," he replied.

"You're that boy brought here by the Bran family. I'll give you one piece of advice, though you were welcomed by them, don't think you can do whatever you want here. Remember your place."

Aaron's voice grew more and more intimidating, thanks to his power becoming sinister and mysterious at the same time.

"I will keep that in mind, thank you for your warm advice, head of the Baum clan - replied the young man - But if I may, I'd like to tell you that it was the dandy behind you who threw sharp words at me, what I did was only return the favor. You know, in my country there is a saying, "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth.""

Ignoring the bad feeling hovering around him, he smiled falsely at Aaron, which seemed like a test of defiance for the latter.

Alcas didn't even say a word in the meantime, but there were still traces of malice in his eyes. He gave a smirk of derision; anyone who opposed his father was a dead man.

Rei pulled at Rada's sleeve hastily, "It's his son!" she whispered.

"Huh? Really? The son of a hawk seems to be a chicken this time," he replied. With a face of mock astonishment, he sarcastically commented on father and son.

The people watching were completely speechless. Although it was unusual, people understood the analogy well. Rada was mocking the two leading members of one of the most important clans in the village.

Rei's face turned as pale as a sheet.

(He's crazy!) she thought.

"What did you say!?" Alcas shouted in anger.

His eyes reddened with anger, but before he could act he was again stopped by his father.

"You're good with words, moreover you seem to have guts kid, but soon you'll understand, that's not all it takes to survive in this world."

Aaron applied even more pressure against him. A mountain seemed to fall on him, his whole body trembled, he even struggled to breathe because of the enormous pressure.

(Concentrate! Link your aura together with mine!) the alarmed voice of Kiba still resounded in his mind.

(You must keep control of your senses, try to feel with all your being, my power circulating inside you...) the puppy guided him step by step.

Slowly along with the puppy's golden aura came another, much fainter, but distinguishable due to its silvery hue.

Everyone present stood wide-eyed.

"That boy and the puppy seem to possess a Link!" said an astonished onlooker.

The boy in front of them, who seemed to be completely overwhelmed by Aaron Baum's enormous power, regained control of his body again, which was not at all easy to accomplish in the sight of many.

"Y-you okay?" asked Rei with concern in her face.

She looked like she was on the verge of tears.

"I'm fine!" replied Rada. His expression concealed the enormous difficulty had in countering Aaron's great power.

He gave the girl a wink, smiling at her as well.

"Oh, really you..."

Rei breathed a sigh of relief, however she felt frustrated that she couldn't be of any help in their situation. She looked around, hoping that she could see her father, the only one who could put an end to everything.

Aaron Baum was also very surprised; he knew immediately that there was a Link between the young man and the puppy. Moreover, he began to think that it was not just any link between the two.

To Alcas' red eyes, a green and livid expression was added, he was dying of envy. He found it rather unfair that a nobody like Rada, had a spiritual Link with a beast and he didn't.

"Not bad, now I can see why the Bran's took you to heart."

Aaron Baum's tone of voice, seemed to taunt both Rada and the Bran. Even with a Spiritual Link he was little more than a bug to him.

(It's no good, that guy's a damn sight stronger than us, doesn't this bastard have anything else to do but pick on us!?) Kiba expressed all his indignation.

"What's going on here!!!" from the back a voice shook everyone present. Logar's voice seemed to shake the earth.

"Papa!" shouted Rei joyfully.
