Chapter 58 - 58- Black fire; Tickles

Leaving Ais behind, Calvin went back to the Mansion expecting to have a long talk with Hestia.

Walking through the hallways aiming for Hestia's room, he noticed how there was noise coming from the backyard.

"Firebolt!" He heard Bell use his now, signature move.

Taking a detour and going to the backyard he found Bell standing in front of a pile of smoldering rock with his hand stretched out.

"Was that good?" He asked Learner, who watched intensely.

"Yes, thanks" she said raising her hand and making the rock turn back into a wall.

"Amazing!" Wiene exclaimed from the side.

Calvin looked her way and saw the rest of the Familia sitting on a big carpet on the ground.

"What are you guys doing?" he asked getting near them.

They turned their heads his way.

"Big brother! You're back!" Wiene exclaimed running to him and hugging his waist while burying her face in his chest with a smile on her face.

Calvin looked at her for a moment before patting her head "I'm back"

"Big brother you must see this! Big sister said she is going to make a new spell" Wiene said excitedly pulling him down onto the carpet.

"Alright, alright" he tried to calm her down to no avail, after sitting on the carpet, Wiene quickly sat between his legs.

"What's this new spell about?" he asked the other members of the Familia.

"Well, after you went after Ais, Learner revealed that she had healing magic, but it seems like she can copy magic and improve it somehow? She then asked us to show her our magic" Welf explained while watching Learner that was standing silently.

Bell then came and sat on the carpet "Isn't it amazing? copying other people's magic?" he said with awe.

Copying magic? That certainly piqued Calvin's interest.

Suddenly, Learner's face became expressionless, meaning that she wasn't using her human brain.

"Fire…" A murmur left her mouth, it was as monotonous as it was organic.

On her palm an orange fire appeared, it looked exactly like Bell's own firebolt.

'Weak' with her "Magic eyes" she saw the pattern that Bell's spell made, it was simple, red-orange with the purpose of attacking, not intricate at all.

But it was nothing near the maximum potential of fire, human magic was tainted by their emotions… it weakened it.

There was only one purpose to fire, to burn.

'Burn' is the only thought that she had while conjuring the fire.

Suddenly, the small fireball became brighter and brighter and the temperature around the place started to increase rapidly.

'Fire burns, burns everything, shining brightly in the darkest of places, it only wants… destruction' with that thought, the heat increased tenfold the small fireball shining like a miniature sun that burned the grass beneath.

The Familia covered their eyes due to the brightness, and the heat was such that everyone started sweating.

Suddenly, the light along with the temperature started to decrease until it disappeared completely.

Learner looked at her hand, which was slightly burnt but regenerated quickly.

'Out of magic, it seems like "Pure magic" consumes a lot more magic than a normal spell' she theorized feeling an empty space inside her, that was slowly re-filling with the magic from the environment.

"What was that?!" Lili shouted from the side.

"Fire." Learner answered as Lili looked at her stupefied at the obvious response.

"Uwaah it was amazing Big sister! It was like the sun! do it again!" Wiene exclaimed getting up from the carpet and running at Learner.

"I'm out of magic, let's continue tomorrow" Learner warmly said while caressing Wiene's cheek.

"Aww…" Wiene sighed disheartened.

"Amazing… I have heard of 'Magic copying' before but they weren't nearly as strong as Learner's" Mikoto said.

"Yeah, most of them have some sort of drawback too… I suppose her drawback is that copied spells consume a lot more magic" Welf theorized.

'Could she copy my magic?' Haruhime thought, feeling a lot less useful for the Familia.

"Alright guys show over you can go now" Calvin said dismissing the rest of the Familia, leaving Learner, Wiene, and himself in the backyard.

"What's up with this fiasco of magic copying?" he asked Learner.

"I had found something interesting while researching magic, it seems like the spells that humans use are weak, magic only needs one order to go at its strongest, but human emotions interfere with it, it also seems like the so-called 'falna' system limits humans to make magic faster and less consuming, I call this new magic 'Pure magic' untainted by human emotions" Learner explained with excitement on the last part.

"oh? Interesting… have you thought about fueling it with [Bent]?" he said making Learner's eyes sparkle for a second.

"I hadn't thought about it" she said looking at her hand again.

She then lifted her hand, and another ball of fire appeared, a round orange-red fire just like before, soon after its apparition, it changed color into a bluish-black, that somehow made the place darker, even standing outside in broad daylight.

"Interesting…" Learner muttered looking at the 'fire'.

It seemed to burn everything, but it wasn't emitting any heat at all.

'Figured…' the Reality bending abilities of [Bent] and the nonsensical properties of 'Magic' seemed to make a fire that burned everything be it, light, gravity, and even heat itself.

'Pretty powerful but unstable…' she thought, as the ball of fire lost its form leaving it as a single flame.

Focusing on the fire even harder, the fire formed a ball once again, she then pointed her hand at the wall of stone she had formed before and reinforced it with [Bent], making the wall turn a metallic black color.

"Firebolt." She said, as the fire shoot from her hand at an incredible speed leaving a tracer of flames behind and slamming against the black wall, exploding violently and making chunks of stone and black fire shot out everywhere.

Calvin put Wiene behind him, and let [Beli Ma] take care of the chunks of stone, before a wisp of black fire neared him, burning through his [Beli Ma] and approaching him rapidly.

'No way! No way! No way!' he thought rapidly as the fire neared closer and closer threatening to make if not another hole, the biggest scar he's ever had on his body.

'Shit!!! I'm regretting my decision, I should've used Wiene as a meat shield instead of protecting her!' sweating bullets he braced himself for impact, grafting his pain receptors into a nearby rock but closing his eyes in anticipation anyway because he had a feeling that [Sense Grafting] wouldn't work on the flame either.

But after a while, he didn't feel anything.

Slowly opening his eyes, he saw Learner with her hand extended at him, looking in front of himself he saw the flame suspended in the air a few inches from his body.

She then swiped her hand making the rocks and fire vanish.

"*sigh*" seeing the danger fade away, he unconsciously released the air he was holding.

"Did I scare you? Sorry, I forgot you were weak" she said making him frown.

"What's with that cocky attitude?" Walking over to her, his expression became soft and he caressed her cheek.

"Maybe some punishment will make you remember your place?" he said in a soft manner that didn't reflect the intention of the words at all.

Putting her hand over his she spoke in a sultry voice "Maybe…"

Calvin was taken back by her response 'Shit did I make her a pervert? Not that it matters anyway…'

"No! you can't punish Big sister!" Wiene exclaimed putting herself between Calvin and Learner and stretching her arms to the side as if protecting Learner.

"Oh? You'll take her place then?" he said dropping the soft tone and acquiring a much more serious one.

"I…" she glanced at Learner before looking back at Calvin with a determined expression "Yes I will take her place"

"Brave, aren't we? But, are you sure? My punishment Is not something everyone can withstand; the possibility of death is not off the charts" he asked in a malicious tone.

Hearing the word 'Death' made her body tense up, feeling way less encouraged to take her big sister's place.

"Don't worry I'll protect you" Learner whispered to her.

Regaining her courage, she spoke again "Yes, I want to take her place"

"Alright, prepare yourself" he put his hand over her head, making her tremble slightly and close her eyes.

"[Sense Grafting Mode: Tickling]" he said in a carefree tone changing the serious mood.

"Huh?" Wiene said, perplexed at his words.

Before she could say anything, Calvin started caressing his hand slowly causing her to explode into laughter.

"Hahahahahah! W-what is this?! Hahahaha!" She tried to speak but she felt how she was being tickled everywhere at once, making the laughs keep coming out of her mouth.

"Really?" Learner said while Wiene was rolling on the ground holding her stomach.

"What?" he asked.

"I thought you would do something more… lethal"

"Who do you take me for?"

"My mate?"

"What does that even mean?" he asked dispelling [Sense Grafting] making Wiene stop laughing.

Learner didn't respond and went to tend to the heavy breathing Wiene.

Looking at the orange light coming from the horizon he remembered that he had something to do.

Seeing that Learner wasn't going to respond he walked away.

"Whatever" he said before going inside.

Learner looked at Wiene who was frowning "He was messing with you"

"I know! he doesn't take me seriously!"

"Eh? Did you want to get punished?" Learner asked.

"No! I just thought that I could protect you…" Wiene said, sad that she couldn't prove herself to be useful.

"Aww…" Learner hugged Wiene to her chest and caressed the back of her head "You don't have the power to protect me or him, you can, however, protect the others"

"Yes! I'll protect them!" Wiene exclaimed.
