As I slowly mastered my tri elements, I soon become Thor and smited all my enemies thee end.
[You really are milking this joke aren't you?]
Hey, it's the easiest way to open up an entry into the log especially since the one from last weeks was so open ended.
[Just get on with it, I'm actually interested to read this one]
So Druid magic... is pretty easy once you reorganize it in a scientific way and remove all the flowery, connect to nature bs.
For example, the song and melody I heard before gaining my affinities, is taught to all druids to be called the song of nature. It's supposed to be the beating heart of Mother Nature and getting closer to it means being a better Druid.
I don't blame my mom for not finding fault in this thinking because she was raised into this belief. She likely would never suspect anything different than anything she was told. She can never do anything wrong of course.
[You are going off track again!]
Anyway, I was determined to quantify the world so I made a few discoveries and rewrote the Druid vernacular a bit. That song is actually the sum total of the entire conscious thoughts of every living being, in my general vicinity, being conveyed through mana. They sound so cohesive because of the way frequencies and wavelengths work in sound.... blah blah long complicated physics. What's important is that it's just a highly connected network of thoughts linked together by mana. It's almost akin to a neuro network. At some point my soul will grow strong enough to actively make a difference in the network on a large scale but at this point I'm puny.
It's the reason why it seemed so vast yet simple. Connecting to it for a brief moment allowed me to access tons of information and at the same time gave me my affinities.
Right now, using the network on a large scale to cast spells is suicide, but using it to make direct connections to something else is simple. I did it every day unconsciously without Alfred.
Which is another thing. My affinities came from the fact that I have never accessed that amount of mana before. I guess the only way to access your affinities is to be filled with a large amount of mana all at once.
This lead me to another question. I had guessed some affinities weren't accessible through the Druidic system, but if mana is universal, and you awaken your affinities through mana, how did I not unlock the others. This needs more investigation of course which I will happily do in the library.
Now Natures Wrath has four main elements, Fire, Water, Earth, Wind. Lightning is not one of them. Lightning is actually a sub element and is actually a composite element of fire and wind combined apparently. This isn't unusual and it is said that there are many composite elements. Lava a combination of earth and fire, steam a combination of fire and water; the list goes on and on. Most Nature's Wrath spell actually deal with these combinations. Someone with fire affinity would easily pick up a lava spell or a steam spell.
Now I have a few questions here as well and luckily I was able to quickly answer all of them after a week of study.
The first one being, why are the traditional Greek elements of creation so important here. The answer I found in the library in a book called stars and planes. It's one of the few books we have from south of the desert. Just because the desert cuts us off doesn't mean there isn't any contact. We trade by sea sometimes with the south. The tribes have not had much interest in the magic and literature of the south to my surprise. So we mostly trade different commodities.
Apparently South live in a feudal society of sorts that prioritizes merchants while the Wizard stay above the masses. Their warriors are given smaller roles. Because of that, the tribes don't like being influenced much by their corrupted nature unless it's convenient. The network of magic portal stones was gifted to us by some southern wizards for instance. We have no clue how to replicate them, but we have plenty in stock to set up in any city.
Anyway, the book describes the planet as spherical, but is surrounded by four elemental planes which, you guessed it, represent each one of the fundamental elements. These planes interact with each other providing the planet with the power of these elements.
That makes sense and I definitely don't have any more questions on that subject... The second question I had is what mana is and how it related to the elements. You see I'm a man of science, so there must be a logical explanation for why this mystical ether is able to interact with everything in such a Profound way.
[There's no way I could tell you were a scientist. It's not like you were basically doing the scientific method all over with this entry over and over again and leaving out your experiments you had this week.]
It works and you know it.
Anyway so I started testing and observing through the last week of training. Sometimes I would cast magic in my off time and I came to a startling conclusion. The elements are mana. They are one in the same just in different forms.
I came to the conclusion when I started thinking about what mana was. It has a numerical value that my statistics tool can pick up. I came to that conclusion because apparently my Intellect went up and my statistics tool picked up the increase in mana. I'll show the S.L.A.D. to you later Goddess.
Then I started paying attention to what Druid spells are. My first spell I learned was warmth. Fairly simple spell used to keep you warm. To use it, I must connect to the neuro network in the sky first and then ask the ambient mana in it to raise the temperature. Of course I'm a newby Druid with barely any connections to the network so I was just barely able to get the mana to listen. But when I did I paid attention.
I noticed something peculiar. It almost felt as if the mana was shaking a bit. Not unlike a vibration. This along with the fact whenever my mother cast breeze, I could sense the shifts in mana which made me figure out mana is a particle.
This conclusion has quite a few assumptions. The biggest one being that, besides the addition of mana and other energies, this world's laws of nature including physics, chemistry, and biology are all the same. I would like to confirm this conclusion with a microscope but it's not like I have one lying around.
(This can get confusing I realized later because the word element can mean in the magic sense or the chemistry sense.)
But I felt fairly confident for now. I have already taken it to heart that mana and the different forms it can take are all considered elements. This would be vibration for heat and fire, fluid motion for water, strong bonded solid forms for earth, and shifting movements for wind.
I've attempted to use the diagnostic tool on mana but it was unable to locate it. Maybe I have to gather more in one place for it to register it.
This all leaves me with one simple question, how am I going to train now. Both my affinities are composite elements. Is is composed of Water and wind while lighting is fire and wind. Luckily I didn't have to really research this one because mother has it covered.
She had let me know that It was very common to have Ice affinity in her tribe and that she even knew some of the starting spells for them. As for lighting, she said it was a rare element that some had attained and that some spells should be written down back at her capital. She also assured me that composite elements are the best to have affinities for because their parent elements would be more familiar to you.
So basically I have full affinity for two composite elements and three half-affinities for fire, Water, and wind.
Cool so I'm basically some blessed child. I've also noticed the change in some of the maids when the serve me. There's a sort of fanaticism. I have no idea how they could have figured it out.
[Do you really think that lightning cloud was subtle. You live inside a mountain, it's almost impossible for clouds to form inside it, yet a huge thunder cloud appeared, and launched a lightning bolt at you. Someone's gonna notice.]
I think the answer is more complicated than that. Have you seen my father smiling more recently.
[Yes I've noticed his joy even from where I am]
Professional boaster remember?
