Lightning magic was hard to grasp, but with a good theoretical base I made it work
I used that same philosophy in alchemy. My Alchemy studies, is likely far ahead of anything else this world has done. Combining it with my Druid Magic has even uncle Ivar calling me a little monster at this point.
[All the maids have been calling you little monster because you are a glorified rebel who seems to be a part time comedian]
Im not joking this time though Goddess. I've gotten really good at the Druid arts and Alchemy. I'm not the best at using an axe, but I'm likely an expert when it comes to medicine.
That's right, big daddy pharmacist is back!
[Never say that again]
I've used the last year and a half of categorizing and listing down effects of different materials to familiarize myself. And tinkered with certain other inventions.
I've managed to produce some very prominent medicine from my old world in the pain killing opioid category with a caveat. Morphine like strength medicine with less addicting properties.
In my old word opioids had been in use for thousands of years. Several plants or seeds were eaten to relieve pain. The Egyptian's and Greeks have written about plants with wonderful properties. Unfortunately as useful in the relief of pain as they are, they are extremely dangerous due to their addictive properties. Opioid poppy's were used in china and caused the first opioid epidemic. When I last saw Earth, were still a big problem.
I'm a scientist, but I'm also a moralist at heart so I was first scared to synthesize this drug. Therefore I made a pact with myself to not administer this drug unless the patient was either dying or about to undergo a procedure.
Most chronic pain injuries could be fixed with Druid's who major in the life school.
After that experience, I tried avoiding making drugs for a while and focused on other innovations.
I used my knowledge of chemistry to combine some basic ph substances to make soap. It's useful to disinfect stuff if you aren't an alchemist. I also did the opposite with acids and likely made one of the most corrosive substances I've ever seen.
Throw in the fact that I tried my hand at using alchemy to brew alcohol, and you get the idea that I'm trying to revive my old worlds conveniences.
[You failed miserably at brewing though]
Okay yes. I've never learned how to brew before so this one was a first for me. This is likely the only new world skill I've tried to figure out.
I had thought with my alchemy skills, I'd be able to revive the old world completely, but I found out it was unnecessary. Refrigerators, elevators, printing press, and other inventions are already around due to runes. I'm not sure how they work yet, but because of them, my plans for revolution were cut short.
Still there was one thing I wanted to figure out.
Firearms
Making gunpowder is easy. It's just a mixture of Saltpeter, Sulfur, and charcoal. All of this is readily available around the castle, and the docks. I can probably design some brass casings for a blacksmith to assemble into bullets.
I currently use gunpowder as an explosions or distraction. My father was terrified to see what I had come up with. When I explained how useful it could be like launching fireworks for celebration, some types of mining's, and as a makeshift explosive; he pressed me for the recipe.
I told him I'd provide him all the powder he wants provided he gives me a company to run for my birthday.
He forgot about it immediately then and never mentioned it again. I still wonder why. Does he not trust me with that responsibility?
[More like he knows your gonna blow up the world if he gives you it. Gunpowder and corrosive poisons are the first in likely a long line of dangerous, world breaking inventions. He doesn't even know about the opioids. Considering your rebel personality, you'd likely break the world for me to end up fixing it]
I promise I won't go past nuclear technology!
[NUCLEAR WAS YOUR LIMIT?]
A man's gotta dream to conquer the sun you know.
Until then I have to figure out firearms.
[Another dangerous invention]
The problem is their effectiveness. How useful would they be. I'd have to get headshots every time and most people in this world use metal Reinforced armor.
Druid magic could force foreign objects out and mend wounds quickly. Almost 30% of the population are druids. I can throw a stone into the street and likely hit one. The only way to make them effective would be to use other means along with the bullets.
Exploding bullets, biological bullets, and high piercing rounds along with other means would be the only effective measure. Adding a super rifle to propel the bullets at a stronger force means I'd have to reinvent the wheel. I would need runes for that.
Alchemy, Blacksmithing, and Runesmithing would all be required proficiencies. Currently I have access to one and I'm becoming more proficient with alchemy.
Thinking about it further, I want to open my own clinic at some point. Because, Im likely to continue bring more medical practices from my old world. I want a place to throw them so they would do some good. I might make some personal income as well. I'm a Prince so I haven't had a need for Pennigars, but I'm aware some purchases should be more discrete due to my studies.
I'm currently working on a project that will revolutionize medicine, antibiotics. The amount of rats I need to figure it out along will likely cause people to think I'm a freak. Thankfully the antibiotics aren't that important.
The tribes physiology, by virtue of being descendants of giants, have very good immune systems. The problem is, if they do happen to get sick from a bacteria and it happens to be internal, their pretty much screwed.
Druid magic can't tell the difference in the life forces of the bacterial infection and the patients. If an infection is topical, its easier to treat using a mixture of alchemy spells, a knife, and Druid healing magic. Anything internal is almost a death sentence since a Druid has to constantly heal the affected areas while avoiding the infection which is almost impossible.
The death rate isn't that high, but I'd like to do something about it.
My study into opioids and progress into antibiotics pushed my mind to the limit. I started thing of all kinds of medicines I can prepare. Stimulants, Anesthetics, Migraine pain relief, and vitamin capsules.
I also went down a weird track of synthesizing the different spices in my previous world by synthesize essential oils similar to them.
The castle was abuzz with how many different items were delivered to my study, why looks like to have become more of a mad scientist laboratory than a small office.
At first they thought it was normal as I was practicing Alchemy, but other times I would ask for some strange objects.
Glass shaped into cylinders; wide ones and thin ones. (Lab equipment)
Different body parts from animals (to study mana)
All kinds of poisonous plants (drugs)
Live rodents (more drugs)
Natural minerals and elements (that's what I called them. And they were for the explosives)
It became so ridiculous, they refused to enter my lab for fear of the mad experiments in it. Their were even rumors I was harvesting organs.
My father at some point walked in with a few maids as proof to show I was not doing such thing. Unfortunately I was testing the effect of my corrosive acid on flesh at that moment.
It led to quite the comical situation of my father and mother having an argument in front of the maids on what I was learning in alchemy only for me to stop them both and show them some of the results of my research.
I showed them soap. I mention to them how I processed it using the same technique I created the corrosive acid with and that I could make it into different floral scents.
At this point I saw the maids from the corner of my eye take a few bars I had lying around.
My parents excused themselves after that and banned anyone, except Hilda herself from entering the study.
Apparently my research was very valuable.
