"Mrs. Gu, didn't your family come with you?"
Lily Gu doesn't know what's going on. She's got a medical report. Does she need company?
And family... What family does she have?
Her mother died because she was difficult to give birth to her, her father treat her as a means of earning money, her brother blamed mother's death on her and hate her to death, and lover... that she robbed. If the doctor had not suddenly mentioned the word, she would have forgotten what "Family"meant.
After a moment of silence, Lily Gu shook her head. "Just me."
The Doctor scowled, pushed his glasses up from the bridge of his nose, sighed heavily, and looked with regret as he handed a stack of lab reports on the table to Lily Gu, saying regretfully
"Ms. Gu, the test results are back. Stomach cancer is advanced."
He seemed to pity the terminally ill young woman in front of him, and so was careful in his speech and movements.
Lily Gu had trouble breathing. She took the test sheet. She wasn't a medical student, but she could see how bad her stomach was.
The doctor pointed to the pictures and explained them to Lily Gu, who was half listening and half listening, she was running out of time and needed to be admitted to the hospital for chemotherapy as soon as possible.
How long can the patient of terminal cancer of the stomach live? Lily Gu knows this better than anyone, because her grandfather died after two years in a hospital bed because of this cancer.
"Ms. Gu,"the doctor kindly suggested, "We recommend that you be hospitalized for treatment as soon as possible."
"So I'm in the hospital... can I be okay?"Said Lily Gu, hoarsely, numbly, as if talking to herself.
The doctor shook his head in bewilderment.
Lily licks her dry lips, stands up and tucks the diagnosis into a satchel.
She stood up, said thank you, and turned away from the diagnostic room.
When she came out of the hospital, it was raining outside, the rain mixed with the cold wind, and it hurt like a knife in her face.
It wasn't that cold in March, but the chill in Lily's bones was deep, and the blood carried the chill to her limbs.
Her fingers were red with cold. She held her umbrella in one hand and put her other fist in her pocket, but she still felt that she could not keep her hands warm.
As she walked aimlessly, she turned the ring on her ring finger and looked at the dark sky. It had changed so fast in C city, and before she knew it, it was spring. Spring was supposed to be Wonders of Life, how do you get to her when she's dying?
Lily stood by the side of the road and hailed a taxi. When the taxi pulled up, she slowly rolled up her umbrella and opened the door.
The driver turned to her and asked, "Where are you going?"
"Half-city C-block."Lily bows her head back.
After a while in the car, Lily couldn't resist opening her bag and looking at the pictures in the diagnosis book.
The stomach is so twisted and ugly that it's hard to believe it's a part of her.
Her stomach cancer came out of hunger. In the four years of marrying Simon Lin, she has been cooking his favorite dishes to please her husband. she believed that her husband will noticed these dishes when he comes back home. Even if he doesn't like her, he can at least be gentle with her because he is moved.
But Simon didn't want to have dinner with her. She wasn't upset, she made dinner every day and texted him to wait for him to come back. Instead of Simon, she waited for stomach cancer eventually.
The Tears eventually broke out, and Lily took a deep breath, thinking she was strong enough to face any storm.
But to this day, all her pretense of strength crumbles, her stomach twitches, and Lily shudders and groans.
The driver looked in the rearview mirror. The woman was bent, her thin back was shaking, and she seemed to be taking all the air out of the car. It was the first time he had ever seen anyone cry so desperately.
"Miss, what's the matter with you? Are you lovelorn or unhappy at work?"
No one answered him, he continued: "There is no obstacle, let it go, crying can not solve the problem, go back to a good rest, tomorrow , when the sun rises, is a new day.
Lily Gu looked up with a bitter smile and said, "Thank you."She did not expect to be consoled by a stranger after her terminal illness.
The driver smiled and did not speak, continue to concentrate on driving, to the destination, he parked in a temporary parking space. Lily paid to get out of the car, tore up her diagnosis and threw it in the trash.
A cold wind blew, and Lily Gu wiped dry tears from her face. She was back to her old, calm, mature self, only her eyes were red and swollen and her face was bloodless.
