Chapter 37 - Chapter 37: True Color

The thought of possible quiting this semester also came across her mind.

She could not just leave her family alone in this tough situation.

She still had a day to inform Director Lopez about this should she change her decision of getting her diploma at the end of the semester.

If her plan would succeed, she could return to P University not as a scholar but a regular student.

She didn't have that thick face to ask them to retain her scholarship. That's just too much to ask.

Or she could just transfer to one of the universities in C Province as her last option.

But there's a greater possibility that she might spend another year to finish her degree because of the difference in the curriculum.

Also, she might stopped working as Celeste's tutor since she would be staying here until the next semester should she pursue what was on her head.

The problem now was how she would tell this to Edric.

For sure he would flare up knowing that she would be quitting.

He might ask back the hiring bonus he had given her.

"Should I call him?" She asked herself.

Of all people concerned, he should be the first one that she should inform first since she owed him a big favor.

She did received his late response last week. It was better late than never, right.

It was a sign that he still cared despite how moody he was towards her.

"No, he's probably still sleeping." Jane was having a monolog at the moment.

Edric did told her where he was on his last message. He told her that it was fine since he was currently not in Country P.

She was so lost in her own thoughts that she didn't realize it was technically morning of the following day even if it was still dark.

Jane decided to do what was on her head and she then picked up the phone and dialed Edric's number.

She didn't know their time difference but she was hoping that Edric would pick up the call.

She didn't use their mind link since she didn't know if it even worked for them because of the distance.

Edric's phone was already ringing on the other line but he wasn't picking up.

The call didn't connect and it was a missed call on Edric's part.

Jane tried calling him again. And this time, someone picked up his call.

However, it was a woman who picked up her call.

"Hello? Who's this?" The woman spoke with accent.

"Oh! Wrong number. I'm sorry."

Jane decided to end the call since she thought that he must be having a good time with her girl friend and her call might only ruin the mood.

Little did Jane knew that the woman blocked her number on Edric's phone.

Edric was unaware that Jane called since the woman who was his "companion" for the dinner had answered it deleted her name from both the call and phone registry and even blocked her number.

And this woman was non other than Rosalie.

President Moulin invited Mr. Castillon to dinner in the Palace and they specially requested to bring Edric with him.

Edric wanted to refuse. However, he got curious about the invitation so he decided to go.

On the other hand, Mr. Castillon didn't refuse because he could not just cancel their friendship immediately, right?

Though Edric told him to not let the Moulin use the influence of the Castillon on their personal gains and interest, he still had to find evidence that what Edric said was true so he won't look like the traitor in their friendship.

He also received the permission to go from Edric.

They were still waiting for dinner to be served when Edric didn't realize that his phone fell out from his pocket and was left on the sofa when he excused himself to use the toilet.

When Edric came back, he saw Rosalie using his phone. So, he angrily snatched the phone away.

"Who give you the rights to touch my phone?! Where are your manners?!" He snapped at her.

Edric usually had no filter when he's angry.

"I'm sorry." Rosalie who was infamous for being such a spoiled brat immediately apologizes especially when she saw him so angry.

Meanwhile, instead of getting upset because someone dared to yell at their daughter, President Moulin and his wife, Eloise Moulin looked at each other meaningfully and gave a subtle nod to each other.

Edric didn't know that he was going to be intraped in something so messy.

Edric checked on his phone and sighed when he thought that nothing was altered in it.

Dinner was ready so they moved in the dinning hall to have their dinner.

Rosalie made sure that he would be seated beside Edric.

She really thought that Edric was interested on her that's why he attended this dinner.

Surprisingly, the dinner went smoothly since Rosalie didn't bother Edric.

After dinner, they moved in the living room to continue their conversation earlier.

"So, Ben, Edric. We invited you both here tonight as per my daughter's request." President Moulin started.

"What is it, Franco?" Mr. Castillon asked.

"My daughter thought that since Francis already has a girlfriend, she didn't want to be the third party and the reason why they would break up. So, we both agreed to ask Edric, your nephew to replace Francis."

"What?!" Mr. Castillon was really shocked by the news.

Compared to Mr. Castillon, Edric remained calm and composed.

He looked at Mrs. Moulin's face and he could immediately tell that she was against this idea.

She wondered what pushed them to have this suggestion.

They wanted to marry their daughter to someone who can't fall in love?

Were they ready to see their daughter to suffer?

They had no idea what's in store for them should Edric agree with this arrangement.

"Edric, I know you don't like my daughter now, but Rosalie's such a sweet girl. It's hard for a father to let go of his daughter's hand in marriage. That's why it's very important for me to choose her perfect partner." President Moulin seemed sincere when he said that to him.

Edric then looked at Rosalie who was acting sheepishly beside her parents and Edric felt like puking on the inside.

"I don't think you got my point the last time. I don't like her. Unless you have another daughter, I'd rather marry her over Rosalie."

Edric was very clear with his intentions. He's going to marry the other daughter, not Rosalie.

"But, I don't have another daughter." President Moulin told him. However, Edric said something funny.

"Then, make a new one. Mrs. Moulin is still young. If you bear a daughter now, I'll marry her immediately."

Mr. Castillon could not hold back his giggle.

He knew that President Moulin had undergone complete vasectomy a few years ago. Conceiving a child was close to impossible unless a miracle happened.

"Can you really not reconsider it? I really like you a lot, Edric. I promise to be good and obedient to you as your wife." Rosalie finally spoke. Trying to appeal herself to him.

She didn't know that what she was doing only made Edric to be disgusted with her even more.

"Look, if you're going to force yourself into a man, you're only going to be miserable."

Edric really meant what he said.

It's not easy to love him nor getting his heart.

Many tried but they all failed miserably.

Edric didn't wait for their response and he stood up to leave the Palace immediately.

However, President Moulin halted him from making his first step.

"You should be thankful that you're chosen to be my daughter's fiancé! How dare you act disrespectful in front of me?!" President Moulin was furious while looking at Edric.

No one dared to humiliate him and his family ever since he was elected in his current position. Especially in front of his subordinates.

Only Edric dared to do this to him...to them.

"I don't feel honored at all! You may be powerful now because you're still in office. You should be thankful that Uncle Ben helped you with your campaign. If not for the so-called friendship, you owe this family big time."

Then Edric looked at Mr. Castillon and he continued, "Uncle Ben, I hope you see what's the reality by now. Strengthening the friendship by marriage is okay. However, using the marriage to gain benefits at the same time forcing the other party to agree to it, is wrong. Friendship should be mutual, not forced!"

Edric didn't let the President's anger to hold him back.

Edric would never bow down to anyone.

'Who do you think you are?' Edric thought of President Moulin.

Since Edric left, Mr. Castillon didn't stay in the Palace.

Inside the Palace, President Moulin was very angry while looking at the main door.

"Calm down! Don't let your anger get the best of you. We still need them." Mrs. Moulin coaxed her husband.

"I know. And that's what frustrates me more!" He said.

"Just because they're superior than us, they would dare to look down on us?!" He added.

"I know. But it's not the time for us to snap at them. Let us be patient. When the time is right, we will make them bow down to us."

Mrs. Moulin was very angry with what had just happened.

"Daddy! I will only marry Edric and no one else!" Rosalie declared.

She was throwing a tantrum after the rejection.

"Calm down, Rosalie. We will find ways to make him agree, sweetheart. Don't worry." He was comforting his daughter. Spoiling him even more.

President Moulin was determined to make Edric his in-law.

Good thing Edric had changed his profile on the internet before these people knew everything about him.

They were already acting like this even though he introduced himself as a distant relative.

President Moulin was thinking of using his connections in cornering Edric.

If he could not make him agree to his wish, then he was not the President of Country F for nothing.

"I'll count you on that, Daddy." Rosalie said and left the living room to go to her room.

Now that the couple were left alone, they had decided to move into his office to continue discussing with his wife about this matter.

When they got in, the thought about President Moulin's other daughter came to their minds.

"Why does he kept asking you for the other daughter?" Mrs. Moulin asked in suspicion.

"Did he know about your bastard daughter? Maybe he knows her and he was here to give us a hard time. Or maybe Ben knew something and shared it to him." She added.

"I doubt it. Ben didn't know a thing even my previous marriage. And don't be ridiculous. She's not my daughter!" President Moulin furiously said at the same time confident that no one knew about his previous marriage.

"But that's what your ex-wife kept on insisting even on her last words before she died." Mrs. Moulin taunted.

"Ha! I doubt it. I only have one daughter and that's Rosalie." What Mrs. Moulin said infuriated him more.

"You said it yourself that you have disposed her already. How can a ghost be able to talk to the living?" President Moulin also added.

However, his expression changed when he saw her troubled face.

"Actually."

"Don't tell me."

"B*llshit!" He cursed.

"They lost her while on the way and they thought that she's dead."

"Do you know what you have done?!" President Moulin held tightly on Mrs. Moulin's shoulder and his wife whimpered.

"I'm sorry. Please let me go. You're hurting me." She begged however, President Moulin had turned into a completely different person.

He pushed her hard on the table and she hit her back on the corner making her to cry in pain.

"If that b*stard comes back and know about her inheritance, you better prepare to lose everything!" President Moulin then furiously stomped out of the office leaving Mrs. Moulin bawling her tears out.

Killing intent was flashed in her eyes.
