Ah, yes. Trevor. What a guy! His arms and the way his muscles in his back moved in sync with him was like watching everything fall into place like somehow things belonged. That I was meant to be there. His wet hair and the water dripping over his huge and beautifully sculpted chest was a scene that's been etched in my mind forever.
"Amabel? Hello? Earth to Amabel?" Gwen said, trying to get my attention as she waved her hand in front of my face even clicking her fingers a few times.
"Huh? Oh, right. Well, you know the guy who danced with me at the club the other night?" Gwen nodded and pulled me to the couch and sat with her legs crossed like a little child excited to hear a story.
"Well, I ran into him last night as I was trying to go to the hospital. He followed me outside and asked where I was going. I told him and waited for a cab to finally listen to my signals. But then, he offered me a ride in his Bugatti. He sat with me in my mom's room and I guess he took me home with him, because I woke up in his bed this morning."
Gwen's face lit up. Her brows raised as if not by choice and the corner of her mouth stretched into a faint smile. "Nothing happened!" I exclaimed. The reaction I got from Gwen was a deep groan of disappointment.
"What? Am I supposed to feel guilty and give myself to him as a thanks?"
Gwen sighed and said, "No, of course not. It's just, Bells, you need to get out more. I know, with school and your job you don't really get time. But, you need to give yourself a break. You need to find balance in your days."
Gwen was acting like a real bitch. But what she was saying was the truth. I don't have a life!
Instead of arguing further I just nodded. She was only looking out for me. "Now, get your butt in the shower, because you have men's cologne all over you." Gwen said, stepping further and taking a sniff. "Mmm, smells kinda nice," she continued as she got up and went to the kitchen.
The feeling of butterflies fluttering in my stomach never left me. All day, in the office, at lunch. Hell, even in the meetings Mr. Walker had. Sometimes I feel sorry for this man. He has meetings after meetings. It's like he doesn't even get a chance to breathe. And when he has a break, he spends that time with me.
Not that I'm complaining, because I never really had a dad. Mr. Walker was so kind and it felt like I was getting to know what a father was. Who a father was meant to be.
A few weeks have gone by and I haven't seen Trevor since. Maybe it was for the best. I don't have time for a relationship anyway. Instead, I juggle with my classes and go to work. When I get home, I help Gwen with dinner as I try to finish all of my assignments on my laptop on the kitchen counter. Wow, it still feels weird to say my laptop.
While having dinner, Chicken à la King, we watched TVD. It was starting to get late and then Gwen said, "I'm off to bed. Don't stay up too late, Bells. You need some sleep. Good niiight."
A smile appeared on my face, I shook my head and said, "Niiight." I can't sleep now, I have to finish this assignment tonight. Tomorrow, I can finish the other one and then I'm all caught up. Actually, I am ahead of the curriculum and this way I can finish early with this semester, having less stress when it comes to finals.
I'm finally done. I glance at the clock on my desk. Wow, 01:23 in the morning. Get some sleep and get up at seven. That sounds good. Oh, no wait! I need to pick out my clothes for tomorrow. I scurry around looking for the perfect outfit. I'm getting the feeling that I belong in that building.
Mmm, this navy blue skirt and white blouse will do fine. Now, shoes...
Maybe I could ask Gwen if I could borrow her long black boots. Those boots will rock with this outfit. Yes! That's my outfit. I start yawning and I shake my head trying to get rid of it. That's my que. It's my bed calling me.
I slip into my pajamas and then into bed. Shutting off my bedside lamp. The darkness in the room is not the only black I can see, but also the black color of my eyes closing down, down, down.
The next day...
I'm awake before the alarm gets the chance to start screaming on que again. I get up and get out of bed, take a shower, blow dry my hair, get dressed in the outfit I picked out last night and head to the kitchen. The sound of the water bubbling in the kettle as it boils was kind of peaceful. Like it was just me and the kettle in the whole world.
I made a cup of coffee for Gwen and took it to her room. It's like the smell was the alarm because the moment I stepped inside her eyes shot open. "Is that?" was all she could get out when her voice broke off.
"It sure is," I said, handing her the cup. She slowly pressed her lips to the cup and took a slow, tiny slirp. Before I head back to the kitchen Gwen calls for me. I turned around and then she said, "Bells. Thank you."
For what? I am supposed to be the one to say thank you. If it wasn't for Gwen to start being friends with me when I started with college, I would be living on the streets. "We're welcome," I said with a smile and left.
After a slice of toast and my cup of coffee, I brushed my teeth, packed my bag with my keys and headed out the door. "Bye, Gwen! See you later!"
Oh, right. Shoes...
I go back inside seeing Gwen coming out still in her pajamas. "Back already?" she asked sarcastically. "You look great. Where's your shoes?"
I looked at her and shrugged my shoulders. "Uh, I was wondering if I could maybe borrow your long black boots for today?" I hated asking for more when it came to Gwen. But she always said that I shouldn't be afraid to ask her for something. Still, it bothered me a lot.
She tilted her head to the side and smiled. "Of course, come on. Let me get them for you," she said, dragging me by the hand to her bedroom. She went to her closet and got them. I put them on and jumped to give Gwen a thankful hug. "Thank you so much!"
"But now I really have to go," I say, running to the door. Before closing it completely I call back to Gwen. "Hey! Thanks again. I'll see you tonight?"
"Yeah. Bye." That's her... My best friend, ladies and gentlemen.
