I got down to the main lobby, got a cab, and got home. "Hey!" Gwen shouted excitedly and grabbed me in a hug, I nearly dropped the bag with my laptop inside it.
"Hey. Are you drunk again?" I asked.
"No. Why? Do I look drunk?" she asked. I put my things down and walked to my room. With my back towards Gwen, I demanded, "Gwen, put on a dress. We're going out in ten!"
Gwen loved parties. It took her six minutes and she was ready. We got in the elevator on our apartment floor. What surprised me was that Gwen took us to the basement. "Where are we going?" I asked.
She looked at me with a sassy smile on her face and said, "To get my car."
Holy shit! Gwen got a car!
When we got to the basement, there were a lot of cars. But one car stood out. The car was red. I couldn't make out what type of car it was until I...
"Holy shit!" I shouted and my voice echoed in the basement.
"Shh!" Gwen walked to her car and me? Well, I just stood there. What am I supposed to do now? Get in the car, Amabel!
Getting closer to the view, I started drooling over the red Lamborghini. Gwen unlocked the car, got in, and started up the engine. Goosebumps appeared all over my body. Think I just had an eargasm. She stopped right in front of me and nodded her head to the side as she said, "Get in!"
I got in and the smell of "brand new" and leather crept into my nose. Oh, my soul... What a wonderful thing this is. Like the "newbie" I am at this kind of stuff, I snuggled deeper into the seat. "You okay there?" Gwen asked with a hint of what-the-hell-are-you-doing tone in her voice.
"Yeah," I said and sighed very slowly. She began to giggle, revved the engine, and sped away. It felt amazing. The leather seats. The sound of the engine. The city lights flashing past us. But most of all... The speed. This car was so fucking fast! I love it!
I took out my phone to the text Ella sent for her address. After a few minutes, we got to her building and I sent her a message:
Hey,
We're downstairs!
Amabel
We saw Ella coming out in a stupid hot dress. She was really in the mood to go out. And after the day I had, I have to admit, I was excited for tonight...
She was looking around for us until I rolled down my window and shouted. "Ella! Over here!" The look on her face was a replica of mine when I first saw this beautiful car. She opened the door and got it.
"Gwen, this is Ella. Ella, Gwen," I introduced them to each other. "Hi, it's so good to finally meet you. I've heard fantastic things about you," Gwen said. That's one of the many things I love about Gwen. She is always prepared to make a new friend. And the fact that she is so humble, truly makes her pure of heart. And damn, she can party!!!
"Thank you for letting me crash the party, Gwen. And I'm glad that I finally got to meet you too." Ella said. I could hear the nervous feeling in her voice, but Ella is like ice. You need to put it in the sun for a while before it starts melting.
This is exactly what I wanted. One friend at each of my sides. And that is exactly how we went inside the club, thanks to the DJ.
"How are we going to get in?" Ella asked. Gwen parked the car and gave me one look. For a second we looked at each other and then at the same time at Ella. "We know the DJ," we said in unison.
We got out and met with Jeremy at the doors. "Hi, I'm Jeremy!" he shouted over the loud music. "Hi! I'm Ella!" Gwen and I gave each other a knowing look. "Do you want a drink?" Jeremy asked loudly. Ella looked at me and Gwen as if she was asking for permission. We both nodded to her in response.
"I would love to," she answered. He stuck out his hand and she softly placed her hand in his. Oh, young love. Right? Jeremy was leading her through the crowd getting them both a drink. Gwen and I followed shortly after.
"Oliver," Gwen said, surprised. "Hi," he said with a huge smile. I knew that it was my cue to leave. I took my drink and made my way to the dance floor. Quickly, I spotted Ella with Jeremy at the far end of the club. Both of them were wearing headphones. Aww.
I got this feeling on the summer day when you were gone
I crashed my car into the bridge, I watched I let it burn
I threw your shit into a bag and pushed it down the stairs
I crashed my car into a bridge
I don't care, I love it
The entire crowd was shouting at the top of their lungs. No doubt that Ella picked the song. And I knew the message behind the song.
Drink after drink, I stopped holding count on the number of drinks I had, and that's when I felt my phone vibrate against my skin. I didn't recognize the number and declined the call. Immediately the phone rang again.
This time, I picked it up. "Hello?"
"Hi," the deep voice said.
"Hi, who is this?"
"Oh, Miss Avery. You're hurting my feelings now."
"Trevor? Why are you calling me?" I asked and then slipped and fell on the floor. I burst out laughing.
"Amabel, where are you?" he asked.
"What?"
"Where are you?"
"Uh, some club. Why? Wanna join?" I asked, immediately regretting the question.
"Stay there. I'm on my way." And before I could protest he ended the call.
He wouldn't possibly come here, would he? Of course not. I'm not his girlfriend. I'm not his to protect. I'm not his to save.
I got myself another drink and found Gwen and Oliver making out in a corner of the club. My lips started tingling and they started wishing for Trevor's lips to be here. Maybe he will be here. And after a few minutes, he was. I tried sitting up on the barstool but didn't have the strength to keep myself up.
He spotted me and rushed through the crowd. Correction: the crowd rushed away from him. He found me and said, "How much did you drink?" I saw two of him. Two pairs of lips. Now wouldn't that be a party?
When I started giggling, he laughed and then picked me up in his strong arms and said, "Come on. I'm taking you home." My head rested on his shoulder and without my consent, my eyes felt heavy and closed. Trevor's warmth embraced me. And it felt good. I felt safe.
"What about Gwen and Ella?" I asked.
"I'll ask Jonathan to take them home, okay?" he said.
I snuggled deeper into his neck, taking in his delicious smell, and dozed off. "Okay." I heard Trevor talking to someone, making arrangements. And then everything was spinning. "If you don't stop spinning, I'm going to throw up," I warned.
Too late... Trevor stopped the car and walked around to my side helping me out. Getting everything out of my system, his hand slid against my neck and held my hair away from my mouth, and rubbed my back soothingly. This is embarrassing.
I tried standing up again, but my wobbling legs failed me. And yet again, he saved me. But this time, I didn't know where I was and where I was going. I didn't have to worry. I was with Trevor. So much for trying to get him out of my mind.
