Chapter 3 - Luelle (852 ML)

"Hello???? Are you in there? Wake up."

A girl's voice calls out to me as my vision gets clearer. A girl that looks to be around my age with light blue eyes hovers above me looking at me with a worried expression. Her bright blonde hair almost falls onto the sides of my face as she moves it out of the way.

"Where am I?"

As soon as I speak she lets out a huge sigh of relief as she sits back. I try to get up from the ground as I feel the slight touch of the grass below me. The girl then gently grabs me to slow me down.

"Please don't move too fast, You'll end up passing out again. You were out for a few hours."

Upon hearing that I sit up slowly, looking to my left I see that Lynn is asleep next to me. I sigh in relief and look to my right to get a better look at the girl. Her eyebrows are a little thick but look to be well done by a talented stylist. Her clothes look very fancy giving off an aura of wealth with the white and light blue colors that seem to look straight from a fairy tale, but the vibe is immediately put off by the dirt that is covered in certain parts of the dress. On the right side of her chest, there is a white and gold insignia, I feel as if I've seen this symbol in the past but the memory escapes me. Her relaxed expression then turns into a cheery face and then says in a bright and happy voice,

"Greetings! My name is Luelle Vavillion. Nice to meet you!"

"T-the Vavillion?!"

Luelle nodded and pointed towards her insignia that signified her family on her chest. I bow my head down in an awkward position when still sitting down, to at least show some respect towards her.

"M-my name is Namea Raylef and my sister's name is Lynn,"

Luelle had let out a sigh that gave a sound of disappointment.

"Please don't treat me like that, I don't want to be treated as a noble. It makes me feel awkward being treated so well just because I was born. So please treat me like you would anyone else."

I lift my head up as I notice her expression had then changed to a face I can't exactly read.

"Y-You two are, you know."

I stiffen up for a second and take a deep breath.

"Yes, me and my sister are devils. Go ahead tell me I'm worthless already, I'll just be on my way back home, I am sorry for disturbing you."

I get up from my position and go to wake Lynn up, until Luelle got up and grabbed my shoulder.

"Don't say that about yourself, you're more than just a devil. I've only met you for just this short moment but I can see that you seem better than what everyone makes your people out to be, it's unfair. Everyone is terrified of something they have no idea about."

For a moment after she spoke, the world around me stopped, my chest felt so warm and tight. The feeling of being accepted by somebody else that wasn't like me felt like a gift from the gods. I looked at Luelle trying to hold back my tears. Lynn seems to have woken up from the conversation and looks at me confused.

"I'm sorry Luelle, I don't usually let everything out like this, especially in front of a stranger. It's just, it feels so amazing to hear something like that."

I wipe my tears from my face and get a clear look at Luelle. She looks at me with a slightly sad face.

"I am sorry that your people have faced such harshness. I wish my family did more to help your people. Though, I did hear about another noble who rules over in Gallionade, I think it's the Entrize family. My father said something about him pushing for certain rights and protections on your people. If you ever feel backed up into a corner, then find the Entrize family, I'm sure they'd help you and your people out."

The thought of a person, a noble at that, who sees us as human beings and deserving of rights makes me feel like there's some hope for me and Lynn's future. Realizing I had spaced out I zone back into reality and remember what I was going to ask Luelle.

"Hey, I wanted to ask you something, why are you out here by yourself anyway?"

Luelle looks to her area behind her and then turns to me, she then Puts her finger on her lips as a sign to stay silent.

"I snuck out, I'm not allowed to be out here, especially doing what I'm doing."

She raises her arm with her palm facing toward the sky, she then closes her eyes and after a few seconds you can see a golden light emanating out of her hand moving towards the sky forming what seemed to be a barrier of light. Looking around my sister gasps,

"Amazing! That's so cool! You're like some princess from a story!"

My sister and I looked around in surprise. When Luelle opened her eyes, the barrier began to dissipate, She playfully laughed,

"I take it you've never seen magic before?"

I shook my head,

"Nobody in the town has shown any signs of being eligible to use magic."

Luelle's face turning from disappointment to a understanding expression,

"It is a rare ability anyway, It's no wonder the mages of Aeros are always rushing towards any news of people who are capable of casting magic proficiently."

I look at Luelle in confusion when the mention of the mages come up.

"Mages of Aeros? Who are they? What do they do?"

Luelle scratches the back of her head,

"I only know what I hear around or what I read about them, but they are a group of people who live in a floating city above Sathalus. They are said to be the protectors of the world. It's said that they travel all over the world to protect the people from any dangerous events that would threaten society with their magic."

I tense up and look away at the thought of it. It sounds like a place that I could keep Lynn and myself safe. I look up at Luelle with a determined face.

"Can you help me find out if I can use magic or not!"

She then looked at me and began smiling. She then raised her voice in confidence,

"Well Lucky you, all you need is somebody who is capable of casting magic to find out!"

Immediately she grabs my hands and closes her eyes.

"W-wait! What are you about to do!?"

No response came from her as she seemed to be in full focus, so I chose to trust her and let her do what she wanted. A few minutes passed as I began to feel a surge of warmth in my body. Near my feet, balls of water began to circle around me up to my head, fire joined it after, then electricity. the ground below me began to shake. My body couldn't move, I couldn't speak, all I could do was stand and wait for Luelle to finish. I see to my side that Lynn had moved behind a tree in the distance. Luelle opened her eyes and immediately a wave of force blew in all directions around me pushing Luelle off of me and onto the ground. The elements around me had disappeared after that. I look down at her in shock and immediately offer my hand to help her up.

She grabs my hand as I pull her up. Luelle as she gets up and brushes off the dirt on her clothes, looks at me with such an excited look on her face.

"That, that was INCREDIBLE! I've never heard of anybody that could attune with all of the elements!"

She looked at me with and said,

"You should definitely learn with me! I know I'm self teaching but if we can study the magic books in my father's library, then we can definitely catch the attention of Aeros!"

I stop for a second in thought. Can somebody like me really make my way to the top with my own power? I can't have any doubts about this, I have no choice whether I can or not. I have to create a future for Lynn and my mom. I'll do it for them. Caught up in my thoughts I hadn't noticed that Lynn had run up to me and hugged my leg. I wasn't exactly paying attention to what she was saying since I was lost in thought. I look at Luelle and Nod at her,

"Definitely, I can't wait to see all the kinds of things we can learn."

Luelle nods at me in agreement,

"I can only do this every day for around 4 hours in the afternoon to not make my family suspicious of me, since I am not allowed to study magic or they would punish me."

"Why is that?"

Luelle's expression turns to distraught.

"I'm not exactly sure, my dad and mom banned me from ever touching the magic books or showing any interest in magic."

I put my hand on her shoulder,

"At least try not to bring too much suspicion towards yourself, we have a flying city to get into."

She nods at me with a smiling face,

"I promise you, we'll get there together. I have to get going now before my dad notices. I will see you tomorrow, right?"

I nod at her and put my pinky out,

"I promise!"

she locks her pinky with mine and we shake. After, she starts to walk off,

"goodbye! See you tomorrow!"

I then grab Lynn's hand,

"It's time to go home."

She looks at me with worry.

"Why do we have to go home? I want to hang out with Luelle more, she's nice to us. Dad might also get angry at us for running off earlier."

I gently tighten my grip on her hand,

"I'll protect you Lynn. Once I learn how to harness this power I promise you."

She smiles at me and we begin to walk back home with a new hope in our minds.
