Chapter 4 - The Birth of Magic

On the way back home I can feel the looks of fear from people as I pass by them on the streets. People saying under their Breath how disgusted they are of us, there are some who even spit down at us as we pass by. Lynn began to look more and more stressed. I hold her close to me as I speed up to avoid any conflict. I just need to get home as quickly as possible, hopefully dad isn't home so we can just hide in our room. Once I could see my house in the distance my nerves began to cool off as I sped up a bit more. Once we arrived at my house My mom noticed us from the main room and rushed over.

"Where did you two go? You guys didn't get hurt or anything right?"

I let out a sigh of relief as I looked over at Lynn, her expression has turned more warm than before so I relax myself and give my mom a response.

"No we did not get hurt, thankfully. Actually, we met a nice girl around my age, she seemed to treat me differently from everyone else! Not to mention she had showed me something cool, so I'm going to take Lynn tomorrow to meet her again. Please don't tell dad though, I don't want him ruining things."

My mom had smiled a little bit, it's been so long since I've seen her smile like that.

"I'm so happy honey, I never thought you'd make any friends because of how things turned out. You mentioned she showed you something? What was it?"

"Get this, she was able to cast magic and is currently learning so she can be with the Mages of Aeros. Plus when I asked if she could help me with magic she agreed. Turns out I was more than capable; So now we are going to meet up every day to learn so we can both be a part of Aeros, and then I can help you get out of this awful house."

My mom's expression for a second had a look of surprise and then turned to happiness.

"Well Namea, if you really want to do this then go for it. Work hard for us if that's what you want."

I nod and hold Lynn's hand.

"I am going to take Lynn into our room and hide there for the night so that dad doesn't come for us and cause any problems."

My mom nods at me and points at the table that has two bowls of food.

"Take those on your way. I love you two"

She then kisses our foreheads before I grab both me and Lynn's food bowls and go into our room for the remainder of the day.

A new day begins as I wake up in the afternoon like usual. Eventually, I get ready to leave by putting on some casual clothes. I head out of my room to see where my mom and Lynn are and like yesterday they were eating breakfast.

"Good evening Namea, come here and eat before you and Lynn leave."

My mom then points to a plate of food on the table. I walk over and sit down to eat. Once finishing my food I let Lynn know that it's about time to leave the house. She nods at me follows as I open the door. The cold outside air flows into my face as I brace myself for today. I rushed as fast as possible to the forest where me and Luelle met.

After 10 minutes I managed to make it out of the city and into the forest. I call out her name as I venture further in. After some time I hear her call out,

"I'm over here!"

I walked over to where the sound of her voice came from and eventually saw her setting up what seemed to be a picnic area. Luelle stands up and walks over to me. Lynn lets out a huge smile on her face and rushes out to Luelle but seems to shut down and look nervous when she tries to say anything to her. I walk over to her and put my hand on Lynn's head. Luelle looks at me,

"I'm glad you came! I brought some food over for when we need a break."

In surprise at her consideration I look at her and say,

"I'm very thankful, you didn't have to though."

"It's the least I could do for yesterday's accident, plus, there's so much to learn today, since we know you can attune to all the elements you should read the basics of magic and its relevant history."

I give an anxious laugh,

"It's something that is essential when learning, the faster you get this done, the faster you can get to the physical training. Plus wouldn't you want to catch up to somebody as talented as me?"

she flaunts her body up as she emanates confidence.

"I'll try to get what I can today."

Luelle smiles and hands me a large dark brown book that has an eye in the middle of the front cover. Luelle points to an area behind her,

"I'm going to that tree over there and practicing that barrier you ran into yesterday."

I look at Luelle and say,

"Why do you do that?"

she responds,

"I do it to improve how long I can keep it up for. Currently my best is 4 minutes."

I then wish Luelle good luck and then I Lead Lynn over to the picnic area so she can relax and watch us. I head over to a tree somewhat near Luelle and begin reading. The first chapter is about the discovery of magic which had been founded at 1 ML 851 Years ago. ML stands for "Missing Link" which before that was a period of time of 1000 years of missing history called the Desolate. Nobody knows what happened during this period of time. Any records pertaining to this 1000 years are completely gone. Before that period the presence of magic was non-existent; the world was a darker place where disease and war demolished throughout the entire continent. But an old man named Kyvir Elsroth, who had on death's door, showed a group of three the ways of magic and how It can and cannot be used. These three were known as the Arch-Mages. Nothing about Kyvir is known except that days after he taught the arch mages, he had mysteriously died. The power of the Arch mages are similar to those akin to gods, There was The Arch-Mage of the light, The Arch mage of the Darkness, and The Arch Mage of the Elements. These Arch-Mages spread the wonders of magic out to the world, but not a single person could come close to their power. The reason for this is that each Arch Mage had the power to harness the full scale of their magic without running out of mana. The Arch mage of the Light could use the power of light. The Arch Mage of the Darkness given the power of dark magic. The Arch-Mage of the Elements was different from the other two as they had the full power of all the main elements. Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Electric. These were the elements the Arch-Mage of the Elements had full control over. When each of the Arch Mages were reaching the end of their life span the power that they had control over was passed on to a mage who had proven themselves worthy of the power. These mages now preside over the floating city of Aeros. The rest of the chapter describes the names and accomplishments of each Arch Mage in their time of living. Nothing else seems to explain why I am able to attune to the elements.

"Hey Luelle."

Luelle stops her spell and puts both hands on her knees in exhaustion. She then walks over to me and says,

"Yeah, what do you need?"

I point to the section in the book explaining the Arch-Mage of the Elements,

"Why do you think I am able to attune to each of the elements, when it says here only the Arch Mage can use all of them?"

She stops for a moment in silence,

"I'm not entirely sure, maybe your people really are special when it comes to magic?"

We both sit in silence as we think.

"If my people are really so special then we'll get into Aeros in no time."

I clench my fist and do a fist pump. Luelle looks at me and smiles

"Do you think that if we became heroes, that the mages of Aeros will notice us faster?"

I nod at her

"Definitely, I think if there are more reports of two individuals using magic to help others, they wouldn't hesitate to rush over to look for us."

After a silent agreement, we both went back to our previous acts.

The next chapter is about the basics of magic. The beginning of the chapter talks about the types of magic that exist, Light, Dark, Earth, Water, Wind, Fire, and Electric. There have been cases of magic that has been outside of the natural elements. In these cases people could pull of different effects that never involved the elements, such as creating illusions, making a sound in an area and many others that have yet to be discovered. Any person who has been able to cast these spells, have in turn been gifted from the gods. Back onto your average magic, usually a person who is able to cast magic usually is able to show off a small effect of the persons element, such as a small flicker of flame or a breeze strong enough to push over a cup. People are also limited to one element from Earth, Water, Wind, Fire, Or electric. Dark and Light have only been known to be used by the Arch Mages. I think to myself after reading. Could I be able to cast light and dark magic? we'll find out eventually. The next bits of the book now explain in detail how to begin casting magic. Nobody is going to immediately cast magic right from the get go, but beginners can call upon their attuned element in a small burst that affects almost to nothing, to call upon certain elements, you would have to be near the specific element, such as wind and earth. by focusing on their surroundings, clearing their mind completely. For Earth, if you're near any dirt or metal, you focus on the ground or metal near you; bring in a mindset of creation, it doesn't matter what your thoughts go to but it has to be some form of creation, then you should be able to cause a slight crack or shake in the object or ground. Water is more tricky as you have to be more stress resilient and keep a continuous cool and calm mind when summoning. Fire doesn't need any nearby element to summon but requires reimagining and completely feeling an emotion that builds a fire like passion in your body. Wind is the easiest as you just have to calmly focus on the wind or air around you. Electric requires the thoughts of excitement to jolt the area around. Using these summons/callings will be the first step in being able to cast magic, keeping its form up for as long as possible and increasing its size over time will help increase your magic capability and move on to actually casting spells.

I think that's a good place to stop and begin actually training. I look over to Luelle and notice she's in full focus mode. Now that I realize it, her magic doesn't look like any normal element, could it be light?! There's no way that she can actually cast light magic right? I'll get to that with her in a bit, first I should try calling one of the elements. The easiest one was said to be wind right? Let's try doing that. I stand in place and close my eyes, focus my thoughts on only the wind around me. I begin to hear only the sound of the air around blowing the trees and the bushes, I try to think about changing the flow within the small surroundings of my body. I begin to feel a rushing wind flow all throughout my body in a circular motion, it feels cool. The feeling begins to get more and more intense as the feelings of the wind rush through me. Eventually everything around me begins to feel dark, where am I? I can hear something nearby but it sounds so distorted. The sound starts to become clearer and clearer as I hear that it's Luelle's voice.

"NAMEA! STOP! WAKE UP!"

My thoughts become more distorted and I open my eyes, In that moment I fall to the ground not realizing that I was in the air. Luelle hovers right over me in worry as I look up to her, she reaches her hand out to me to help me up, I grab her hand as she pulls me upright. It seems that Lynn had hidden behind a tree in the distance, and upon seeing me wake up she began to run over to me.

"What happened? I was just practicing holding my magic as you began to rise up into the air, then the power of the wind got stronger and stronger and started to bring small cuts into the trees."

I look down at my feet in guilt not knowing that could have happened and put Lynn and Luelle in danger. I look back up at her and I see she has tears in her face.

"I'm so sorry Luelle, I didn't realize just what would happen, all I wanted to do was call upon the wind to get some more hands-on experience."

Luelle wipes the tears from her face.

"It's okay, let's just stop for today and we can get to figuring that out tomorrow, let's just hang out for now."

I nod and we head over to where the picnic area was to put it back together.

While setting the picnic area back up I notice that Luelle put a lot of work into making food for us to enjoy. It was almost ruined by my screw up, I need to be able to control myself, and soon before I cause worse damage to those around me. Alright the area is thankfully back to the way it was before, I sit down next to Lynn and sigh in relief, Luelle then sits next to me and says,

"Namea, Why do you want to learn magic?"

I look over at her for a second with a slightly serious face and then answer the question.

"I have quite a bit of reasons, I want to prove to my father and to the rest of the world that I'm not some demon who will destroy the world. I want to also secure a future for me, my sister, and my own family. What about you?"

Luelle's face looked shocked.

"W-wow! My reason isn't something serious like yours or even as noble, I just want to go against my parent's wishes. They don't want me anywhere near magic to the point where they lock certain parts of the house where these books were kept. It absolutely frustrates me that I am being kept from something that I have an affinity with, so I'm doing this out of spite."

I look at her,

"I think that's a good enough reason, also speaking of your magic, What exactly is it? Is it Light magic?"

She looks over at the sky,

"Yes, I don't know why I am able to use light magic or why my father forbids me to be near anything related to magic."

I look at her and say with a determined face,

"We'll show them, our fathers, that we're more than just what they want us to be. For now though, lets just relax."

I then Lay on my back and rest my arms on the back of my head. Luelle sighs and down as well as she says,

"You're right we should just relax before we have to go back."

A few hours pass of relaxing, laughing and talking with Luelle as the sun begins to set. I stand up and wake Lynn up as she seems to have taken a nap.

"It's about time for us to leave, I don't want my father to find out I've been sneaking out."

I nod at her as she puts hand out for a shake, I grab her hand back as we shake hands.

"We'll see each other tomorrow again, this time we'll try to get a hold on how to control the amount of power your body can push out."

I smile at her and reply,

"Definitely, I'll see you tomorrow!"

She smiles at me and we both make our way back to our homes. I try hurry home so I can try to get back before my father sees me. I go the same route I went earlier today to avoid anything from stopping me from returning home. Suddenly, A man's hand had forcibly grabbed me and Lynn as I passed an alleyway. The man slammed me into a wall causing Lynn to fall next to me as another man grabbed her. I try to scream out

"No! Don't!"

Immediately after, the man had thrown a punch into my face.
