Chapter 9 - Hero (856 ML)

The stars in the night sky shine bright as I stare up at them from the grass that I lay on. Thinking about the old days.

"How often did I ever get a view and peace like this? Usually when my father started to get violent, I'd sometimes run away till he left for work the next morning. It was only a few times I'd managed to get out, but they were nice. Being away from it all felt so relieving, I still have a hard time believing I'm away from him but, it's been almost 4 years now. I wonder how mom is doing, I hope she's doing okay. Maybe I'll check in from afar when we return home. oh well."

I relax my head on the tree behind me, letting my body fully give in to my exhaustion. I listen to the distant sounds of the city at night, before my conscious gives out to sleep, I think for a second.

"I should probably buy Luelle something tomorrow before we leave to go back home."

Not long after, I slip into sleep; as I fade into my dream world, I find myself falling, in a dark abyss. I continue falling as I hear the voices of people I know and some I don't know.

"This world is rotten, It needs to be healed."

"I will not die without her."

"You're not a demon."

"Don't leave me."

The voices become more and more cluttered together as I am soon unable to focus on any of the voices. My head becomes more clouded and I begin to panic as my breathing turns unstable. After a few minutes of panic the voices and falling stop Immediately, I end up on that beach again. I begin to calm my breathing as I try to sit up and gather my surroundings carefully.

"Am I in Exodus? I can't be right? Unless that person wanted me here, right?"

A voice calls out inside of my head.

"You already know the answer, so why do you go through the trouble of thinking about it."

I look around myself to find the source of the voice and behind me, near the waves of the water, is the Woman in the wheelchair. Staring at me with her cold gaze. The air around me freezing up, she begins to move forward towards me until she gets out of the grasp of the water that waves back and forth. Her voice begins to come back into my head as her eyes glow to her voice.

"Why do you try to rescue those who have done nothing for you, and feign nothing but ignorance to you and your people's suffering."

Unsure of her question I think for a moment.

"I do it because we'll only be seen as heartless devils if nobody does anything to differentiate from what they call us."

She laughs at my response.

"But you know already girl, we've told you many times, devils, demons, do not exist, well not in the way you guys think them out to be."

I respond to her.

"Yeah, and every time I ask any of you what you mean, you just laugh it off."

She laughs again and I just now realize how off-putting this person is as their body does not move nor show any sign of life besides their glowing eyes.

"That's because you won't even begin to understand if we told you the secrets of this world. Anyways, our time here is running out, you best return if you want to live up to your dreams."

In confusion I look at her,

"W-wait, what the hell do you mean?

before I could get a response from her, she had almost evaporated into thin air, my surroundings turned to darkness and I am met with a flash of an unknown face before I am awoken to a loud explosion in the distance.

I force my body up as the sound booms through my body and the ground below me. I catch my bearings and gaze at my surroundings; the night sky, The tree I was laying on behind me, the city of Cyphrun ahead of me. As I gaze at the city on this hill I notice what seems to be a fire with a giant cloud of smoke coming out of that location. Without hesitation I rush over to my satchel that is lying onto the base of the tree, I open it up and grab a white mask, putting it on before I wrap my cloak around me right after. I hang the satchel onto myself, then calling onto the wind to boost myself with my hands as fast as I can, towards the location of the smoke and fire. Feeling the breeze of the wind blow into my face as I essentially fly through the city and in between buildings. The minute I see people nearby who have walked out of their homes to see what was going on, my cockiness shines as I show off my flying skills and pull off some spins and other tricks, to showboat at people watching as I fly past them. the closer I get to the fire, I begin to see people running towards my direction away from the site. Immediately off to the east of my direction another explosion goes off. I stop in place to think.

Where the hell is Luelle. What do I do, where should I prioritize. Maybe Luelle is already taking care of the first site. I'll just go to the second explosion in hopes that Luelle is at the first area right now.

I then begin to fly with more seriousness this time since I have no idea what is going on. A few minutes pass by while flying as I start to see more people running off in the opposite direction of the newly created fire. Finally, I begin to arrive onto the scene as I see a destroyed building ahead of me with fire spreading to the others next to it. I see people getting slaughtered by what looks like Shaq'ul. Creatures as small as a gnome with pale skin as white as snow, deep full black eyes flaunting the depth of the void with shimmers of purple, and a demeanor that just screams the destruction of anything that isn't their own. High pitched evil like laughter as they murder innocents. My heart seeing this scene drops and I lose control. In anger I fly down to the ground and recall the wind and shoot a bolt of fire from my palms at a Shaq'ul close by. The creature disintegrates into ash as the scalding fire engulfs the being, on queue, the others notice my attack and begin to rush towards me as one in the distance rings a bell onto a cart nearby with strange barrels onto it. The Shaq'ul rushing scream at me,

"UL'THAT QUILRON!!!!"

Not knowing what they were saying didn't stop me from beginning my attack as they fully surround me. I call upon the water and splash them all with a flood all around myself. The Shaq'ul are caught off guard and are knocked back and soaking wet. Immediately I call upon the element of electric and start a elemancy effect that causes the jolt of the electricity to spread to each of the Shaq'ul surrounding me, killing them the instant the energy runs through their body with the water I used as a conduct. I smile as I, without hesitation begin quickly casting fire bolts at the remaining Shaq'ul that were rushing to attack me and those who are shooting me with a bow and arrow. Out of nowhere an arrow shoots into my leg. I scream out in pain as my body forces myself onto my knees. In a rush I quickly take out the arrow in my leg as blood begins to gush out. I call upon fire right after to cauterize the wound and get back to taking out the Shaq'ul. I take out a few more with fire as I hear a little girl's scream behind me. I look back and I see the little girl backing away from what is a giant Shaq'ul, the leader of this group. His size just a bit bigger than the buildings nearby, probably around 20 feet tall. The Giant Shaq'ul raises his club above his head, and roars so loud that it vibrates the ground below me, and even windows that weren't already broken shatter to pieces. The girl ahead falls to the ground still looking at the giant in fear.

"SOMEBODY PLEASE HELP ME!"

Trying to catch my composure from the towering creature, I stand up as the giant then slams his club onto the child. In response I call upon the wind as quick as I can and launch myself towards the kid and grab her, the power of the wind thrusts me ahead of the giant as he creates a crushed dent into the stone ground where he hit. The landing isn't very graceful so I hold the girl close as my body drags across the ground from the power of the thrust. I quickly try to get myself up and make sure the girl is alright as I feel a giant surge of pain in the leg where the arrow hit. I can't get myself to stand up on that leg. On my knees I look at the girl making sure she's alright.

"Hey, are you okay, I know the landing wasn't that great but please make sure you get out of here, I'll stall this thing as much as I can for you to get out of here."

She looks at me and begins to cry.

"I want you to be with me! I'm too scared to go off by myself!"

I can hear the crushing footsteps behind me of the Giant Shaq'ul walking towards us. I groan deeply and use as much strength as I have to turn the little girl away to push her so she can run off as I use what little power I have to stand up and face the giant. In the moment I can't tell how many Shaq'ul are behind the giant one; Must be about thirty. He raises his club for a giant slam onto me as I quickly shield myself with the element of earth, crouching and putting my hands to the ground in below me, a huge chunk of rocky earth shoots up and shields me from the hit as I hear the collision of the club and the shield. The sounds of the hit and cracks in the shield worry me as another booming hit slams onto the shield.

I need to think more before this breaks. What can I do to take this thing out, because my normal fire bolts won't be enough to even hurt him a little. I think for a moment as two more hits slam onto my shield.

"That's it!"

I prepare myself as the next hit shatters the shield but in that moment I move the shield to the side to offset the club to hit right next to me. The sheer power of the shockwave knocks me down but I keep my composure as I call upon fire to create a giant ball of flame to shoot onto this giant. He then prepares his next attack as I use as much power as I can, losing control of my emotions as the power of the fire goes out of control and hits the Shaq'ul, setting him instantly ablaze. In a frenzy the giant blindly waves his club anywhere he can, and eventually slamming me and launching me into the wall of a building. laying on the sidewalk onto the wall of this building, I can't move my body and I'm beginning to lose consciousness.

I need to finish him off, that fire isn't going to last on him for long, I need to do it. There's nobody left in the area so it should be safe to do this.

As blood streams down my face, I struggle to raise my hand to call upon electric, except I point towards the sky as the rumbles of thunder can be heard. I build up the last amount of magical power I have as I hear the roaring of the Shaq'ul. My sight begins to blur and fade in and out. Trying my best to stay awake for this last attack; I let out the power I built up from the sky and hit the Shaq'ul with a giant lightning strike from the sky. Upon contact an enormous explosion goes off launching me fully inside of the building I was laying onto, my mind rests as I no longer can hear the Shaq'ul moving or screaming. After a few seconds I fully black out as I hear a fading laughter in my mind.
