Chapter 29 - Mysterious Room

Tristan is woken up by the dazzling sun rays that kissed his right cheek. He snuggled the pillows closer and covered himself with a blanket, still yearning to sleep more.

Soon after, his alarm boomed his ears as it turned 7 am. His deep groan was heard as he got up and turned it off... No choice but to be fully awake! But his lazy self seemed uncooperative.

Sleepily, he went to his own bathroom inside his room and took a quick gargle. He cleaned his eyes using his index finger then washed it off before going out of his room.

Tristan dazedly head to the kitchen with his growling stomach and started to rummage the double-door refrigerator.

'What kind of refrigerator is this?' he thought, annoyed at the sight of colorful vegetables all over the ref.

"Good morning, sir Tristan." Tristan turned his head. He confusedly looked at the maid who greeted him

"Good morning. Where are the meats?"

"Oh. Sir Whifler ate them all last night" The maid responded, making him slightly gape.

"All of it?! The three boxes? The slices of bacon, beef, and fish?!"

"Yes, Sir... But he told Lala to buy some, early this morning... She's probably be arriving soon" The maid smiled.

Tristan was a bit irritated because his complaining tummy couldn't wait any longer. He's craving fried bacon but he could only make a vegetable salad for now.

While murmuring, he took the sliced vegetables out of the ref; carrots, lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers and green bell pepper. Also, some strips of white turnip and onions.

He put all the ingredients on the vacant space of their L-shaped kitchen, then he pulled out a big round bowl and mixed everything there.

"That beast! How did he eat all of those meats?" Tristan mumbled, pouring his salad's dressing; the mixture of mayonnaise and ketchup.

Finally, he decided to take out the box of broccoli and scattered it on top of the salad he made. He stomped towards the living room then he started to eat his breakfast.

"You want some juice, sir Tristan?" The maid asked him.

"Mhm" He hummed as he shoved the forkful of veggies inside his mouth. "Carrot juice, please. Thank you."

Tristan was just chomping while roaming his eyes around the house... He just realized, the rooms in Trish's house were all on the first floor. When I said all, means including Trish's and the guest rooms. Tristan's brows furrowed.

'What's occupying the second floor?' He confusedly thought as he slowly lifted his gaze at the stairs, heading to the second floor.

Trish's house was an elegant two-story house. The furniture wasn't that fancy, but it made the inside comfy and classy.

"Here, sir Tristan" The maid put down the glass of juice on the center table in front of him.

"Thanks"

Tristan's thoughts were now drifted because of his overflowing curiousness. There's this urge to go upstairs formed within him. He has never been to the second floor since there's no reason for him to go there.

That's also made him more curious.

If all of their necessities will only be found on the first floor, what's in there upstairs?

Tristan finished his salad and the juice then went to the sink and drowned the dishes into the basin.

"Is there a room upstairs?" Tristan asked the maid.

"Yes, sir Tristan" The maid quickly replied while preparing the other's breakfast.

"How many?"

"Only one..." Tristan paused at the maid's answer.

"Only one room? That room occupies the whole floor?"

"Yes, sir Tristan"

Tristan's forehead knitted. "What's in there?"

"I'm sorry sir Tristan but none of us knew. Only miss Trish is allowed to enter that room. Miss Trish forbid everyone to go inside. She even locked it." The maid responded.

"What about the cleaning?"

"Maybe, miss Trish was also the one cleaning the room"

Tristan got more curious. 'Only she?'

"Do you have keys to that room?"

"None, Sir... Miss Trish has it all" The maid politely replied. "If you may excuse, I'll go outside for a while sir, Tristan"

"Yes. Yes... You may" After Tristan permitted her, the maid left immediately.

A perky idea played in Tristan's mind. His curiousness was hard to resist! He really wanted to know what's inside that room.

Tristan quickly heads to his room and finds something that could be used to open a lock... I guess you already know what he was looking for. Yes! Something like a hairpin or any tiny pointed objects.

As he found one he immediately went outside, tiptoeing like he was a spy on duty. He glanced from left to right, making sure no one could see him.

After he assured, he paced upstairs and stopped in front of an off-white door.

Indeed, nothing else was there except for this door. The walls were all painted with white, nothing was hanged, nothing was pinned. It seemed like he was standing outside a rubber room.

The vibe of the room won't creep you but it will pull your interest.

'I never thought this room existed' he thought while trying to unlock the padlock and the knob using the aluminum hairpin he found.

'Damn these locks! Why was it so easy in the movie?'

Tristan gradually became irate as he struggled while thrashing the hairpin into the keyhole of the padlock; he twisted, swirled, pushed, and pulled it inside the hole until the hairpin's ends split.

'Shit. This thing is useless! How did the thefts do it easily in the movie?' Tristan thought, clicking his tongue.

He tried to unlock it one more time with the same technique he did, but the lock was as stubborn as him. It wouldn't open.

"Tristan"

Tristan almost dropped the hairpin as he heard her called out his name. He slowly twisted his body to look behind him, then coldly stared at her.

"Yes?"

Trish glanced at his hands, holding onto the padlock. "What are you doing?"

"Uh. I just knew there was a spare room here, so I want to check it out"

"Don't!ā€”I mean... No need"

Tristan's brows furrowed, wondering at his sister's unexplainable expression on her face. He saw the anxiousness at the same time annoyance, conveyed by her eyes. Feels like, There was something that she didn't want to be discovered.

"Why?" he asked while his eyes were pierced on her's.

Curiousness completely enveloped his mind and body. Nothing else was running through his head other than his eagerness to know anything about the room. He was thinking, Trish was hiding something, given her reactions and responses.

Trish slightly glanced at the door where Tristan's hand was still clinging in the padlock.

"Just... Don't... There's nothing in there. It was just an empty room" Trish replied, suspicious nervousness was obvious in her facial expression.

"Oh. That's perfect. I wanted to transfer because my room is quite uncomfortable Iā€”"

"NO!"

Tristan was taken aback by her sudden yell. He could see how Trish's eyes dilated, literally displeased at what he just said.

"I'm sorry... But Tristan, please... Leave that room be. If you're uncomfortable, you can choose anywhere from the other available rooms downstairs." Trish's gaze was now lowered. Her fist was firmly clutched at the tip of her t-shirt.

Tristan stared at her. Yes, she was really suspicious. But, he was uncertain if it was good or bad. Whatever it may be, he was deeply curious.

'What are you hiding in that room?... Was there?'

"Alright" Tristan responded. He will not dig deeper for now. He should observe first.

"Thank you..." Trish faintly sighed in relief, but it has swiftly gone as she noticed Tristan was still staring at her. He averted her gaze uncomfortably. "W-What?"

"Aren't you stressing your knee so much for climbing the stairs?" Tristan asked that made her flinched.

"N-No... I didn't... I-uh... I'm being careful." Trish formed a trembly smile.

"A-Anyway... Don't you have work today?"

Tristan knew his sister was just diverting his attention by changing the topic. Oh. Well, let her be for now.

"I do. Around 2 pm."

Trish nodded at his answer. "O-Okay."

Tristan intensely stared at her for a moment while thinking.

'What's really in there? Was it that confidential to forbid everyone and double-locked the door?... What are you hiding?'

"I'll head first" Tristan coldly said after letting out a soft sigh, then stepped downstairs.

'I must find a way to know everything about that mysterious room.' he thought.
