Chapter 3 - OF WHAT REMAINS

As the sun shined bright over the blood-filled land with people grieving for their loved ones, there stood a boy of rather small stature watching all the dead corpses, "finally I am free", he murmured to himself. As he walked down the street he saw broken cars, piles of corpses and people screaming for help, but he kept walking caring about none, well what could you expect from a boy of about eleven years, when looked upon closely one could see his flesh through his torn attire sticking to his bones, as if he had been starving for a long time.

The people who survived were mostly either greatly injured or too scared too even move looking around scared for any possible predator.

People waited for help from the government, but it never came for the people of the government had shared similar fate.

Years went by and the remnants were left to fend for themselves some formed groups while the others worked alone to survive the rather periodic oncoming of the ghastly beasts.

In the meantime, the look of the city completely changed. The buildings that once stood tall were now reduced to rubble, and rather weird looking trees or one would say other worldly tress started growing all over the city. Looking back the city now resembled the scenery of what was called a magic forest in fantasies with a lot of new wild species roaming around, some of which were to be aware of while the others were just fodder. The remaining of which was once was called streets were now free of crimes for there were no laws to begin with.

As the years passed and the beasts continued to appear during the night and vanish with first ray of daylight. But with cycle of death the people grew habitant of the rather weird topography and the Shinigami's that roamed about. As the Darwin's theory states the one who can adapt is the one who survives, the people who adapted to the regular beasts invasions either by tactical counter attacks or through hide and seek were the one who carried humanity. Although the appearance of the beasts varied from place to place their regular invasion made it impossible to create a strong infrastructure for humanity. The people lived in wooden houses due to the abundance of trees and some even had permanent tree houses.

With no jurisdiction to maintain order the people formed small groups and claimed grounds as their own.

They were like nucleated villages. One of them was known as zigaan. This peculiar village had rather strange topography, with masses of lands floating in thin air and rather curved trees with dark red and green fruits resembling apples but were different at the same time.

Surrounded by mountains on all the four sides one had to climb down these large masses of rocks to reach the village. It was at safer location with the least amount appearance of the beasts. Considering the topography, it had a lot of paths leading to the village,

Among one of these paths there walked a boy of rather lean stature and refined muscles, white hairs, glass red eyes, about 5'8 in height bearing a long sword of abnormal width covering half of his back horizontally and wearing a long black shrug covering his head like a cap all the way to the foot.

[After the fall the people had become rather suspicious of one another and already formed small groups wouldn't let others intrude easily. They were even more hostile towards the ones who could fight.]

The people of zigaan who saw him approaching their turf now had surrounded him with intents to kill if anything went south.

As the boy continued to walk one of the men from the group of seven screamed

Man 1: *in a demanding voice* Stop right there, you brat and hand over all that you're carrying!

The boy stood still without uttering a single word.

Man 2: Are you deaf or want me to repeat it for you little princess.

Man 3: Oh! for Pete's sake, just rip him apart and then we'll take our sweet time to explore whatever he has.

With this being said the seven pounced upon the boy like wolves in a pack in order to establish dominance which they occasionally did to the ones who wandered into their turf, but their attempts were to no avail. For their feet were suddenly sunken in ground which prohibited their movements.

Man 4: Wait a minute, who are you? Are you one of those Retaliators?

The boy: My name is Rein, and I am far beyond the retaliators.
