Chapter 23 - Why did I Take Her In Again? Was it the Candy? What was in that Wretched Candy?

Heavenly doctor Ming was slowly having an extreme mental breakdown.

He had no clue as to why and how he had ended up accepting Bai Jingfei as a student. She had no talent for things that required great precision, and while she had improved quite a bit, she had no tact.

He had taught her how to diagnose some basic illness, to start her off and on the first day he had taken Bai Jingfei to the Jade medicine hall, he had her try to diagnose a simple patient with a cold.

The patient was a long time customer of his and was quite a big fish with deep wallets, who had come accompanied by his young son and wife.

Bai Jingfei easily identified that it was a cold but she said, and I quote:

"Oh, you have a cold! You'll have sniffles and a fever for a few days and you're probably going to die."

Heavenly doctor Ming felt the need to mention that the patient was barely ill and there was next to no possibility of said patient dying, but Bai Jingfei had decided to mention that anyways.

When he asked her why she mentioned that, she said "He had the vibe."

Heavenly doctor Ming had no idea what that meant but he didn't like it. It sounded to him as if she was half assing her work and was frustrated.

Needless to say the patient and his family had rushed out of the hall without buying medicine from his store. It was quite probable they went to the medical hall next door.

Heavenly doctor Ling.

While heavenly doctor Ling couldn't make tonics or pills at all, he still was quite a heavyweight figure when it came to consulting doctors in the kingdom.

Heavenly doctor Ming despised this man, not only for his beautiful medicinal hall and for stealing his customers, but also because heavenly doctor Ling was tall.

Much like Bai Jingfei, heavenly doctor Ming was good at hating people for no good reason.

But height might be a good reason, it's hard to tell.

Heavenly doctor Ling also had charming looks despite being old. Heavenly doctor Ming on the other hand looked like a loli with suspicious wrinkles drawn on their face.

But back to Bai Jingfei.

Bai Jingfei had already broken a total of 13 glass bottles, and destroyed a good amount of his herbs within the time she had been in the jade medical hall. He was beyond frustrated with her.

But not everything about Bai Jingfei was bad.

She had built a variety of knick knacks that were being used all around the Jade Mansion as well as the Jade Medical Hall.

Before she built him the "long arms thingy" he had to call Ladder to get him things on the high shelves and it was quite embarrassing to him and bruised his alpha male ego. Now that he had the Long Arms Thingy, he could strap it on and easily pick up things wherever he was sitting.

It was also extendable so that too was greatly beneficial to him.

Also Bai Jingfei could only be described as a genius in pill making.

In her own words it was "much easier than messing with uranium" and "much less risky".

Of course Heavenly doctor Ming didn't understand what this meant either but he didn't really care. As long as Bai Jingfei wasn't the one bottling away the pills she could make as many as she wanted.

Heavenly doctor Ming walked over to Bai Jingfei, hobbling on his walking stick and glancing around suspiciously.

If a patient came near where she was sitting he would gesture to them to run. Slicing neck motions and covert "shoo" motions were his not so secret method of "saving" patients from Bai Jingfei.

Not just saving patients but also saving himself from losing valuable customers.

Soon the surrounding tables had lines of patients while Bia Jingfei had no one at all. She didn't seem to be bothered though. She was fiddling her thumbs, playing with her hair and even taking a nap.

She was even kicking the talisman next to her out of boredom.

Heavenly doctor Ming felt the urge to yell at her for kicking the expensive talisman he had bought from the famed head priest Tang himself, but felt pity on Bai Jingfei.

It was not like she had anything else to do.

Meanwhile a bunch of patients poured in steadily, but one particular group stood out among all the other patients.

It was the family of the customer who Bai Jingfei had proclaimed dead. They were dressed from head to toe in white clothes and the wife had obvious tears in her eyes.

She walked over to heavenly doctor Ming's table, delicately, as if floating. Bai Jingfei couldn't help but admire how she walked. She hadn't come in contact with any noble women in this world so her demeanour had really stunned her.

Heavenly doctor Ming quietly took the letter from the lady, knowing exactly what must have happened for her to be in the state she was in.

As the lady walked out with her son after handing over a letter and heavenly doctor Ming snapped to turn toward Bai Jingfei.

He was unfazed by the death of said customer because in his field, death was a normal thing.

However he had no clue how Bai Jingfei had predicted the patient's death.

He took a quick read through the letter, which turned out to be an invitation for a funeral, and then walked over to Bai Jingfei's table and slammed said invite on the table.

"How did you know that patient was going to die?"

While one would assume he was angry, from heavenly doctor Ming's jaw which was wide open, you could assume he was merely excited.

Even Ladder was unable to move, staring at Bai Jingfei. Geniuses were not uncommon in the medical field, and he too was curious as to what rare disease Bai Jingfei had seen in the patient that he and his teacher were unable to see.

Bai Jingfei slowly lifted her head from her nap and tilted her head in confusion.

"I already told you, he just had that vibe…"
