Side Story 1.02

{ Kaylen Clark }

"Hello?" she questioned.

"Oh shit, uhm, yeah. Yeah, I'm new." I finally looked away from her eyes, they were captivating. Her sharp green eyes were framed in dark circles, but she wore a friendly expression. "Great, so I'm in ASB, if you need any help just find me. My name is Lexi by the way, what about you?"

"Oh, I'm Kaylen-" I began.

"Mejia, Other One, get to class!" A blonde teacher in white shorts, a red shirt, and a fanny pack called at us. "Of course Ms. Williams, I'm just showing the new kid to her class!" She yelled back. "Helpful as always, but hurry please!"

"So, F3 is Mr. Johnson's classroom, he teaches math, but this is just homeroom so you won't have to worry about that yet. What's your schedule looking like?" She asked. "Uhm..." I lifted the pink paper back to my view. She glanced over "Ah, we nearly have the same classes. Just follow me, I'll be your guide for today." She smiled. She walked ahead of me and I followed her to a heavy looking grey door that read F3. "We're already late, but all we have to do is sit down wherever."

She pushed open the door and for a second everyone turned to see who it was. Mr. Johnson was an old man in a brown suit "Take a seat," He said, glancing up from his planner. I followed Lexi to two empty seats in the back of the room. Homeroom was quiet, the morning announcements played in the background as kids finished up their homework and caught up on sleep. The bell rang and kids got up to rush to their classes. "Okay," Lexi clapped, "We have the same 1st period so just follow me again. The class might be a bit smaller because we have a lot of science classes here. This is Mr. Zimmerman's Marine Biology class, it's a lot of fun because of how close to the ocean we live." I nodded along to the info dump as we arrived at the next big grey door. The second bell rang and students flooded in. "I can catch you up after school if you'd like?" Lexi whispered. "That sounds great." I whispered back just before the teacher started talking. I couldn't help the smile on my face, I actually made a friend on the first day of school. I don't remember it being this easy. The class passed by relatively quickly, before I knew it the bell rung. "I have ELA next, but you're going to Geometry with Mrs. Porter, good luck with that one. Now we're in the same building so we have the same lunch period, what do you say to eating lunch with me and my friends?" She asked. "Uhm, yeah sure." I was trying not to sound too excited, but I think I came off a bit sarcastic... whoops. "Great, I'll meet you back here." She said tapping on the lid of a trash can and immediately regretting it. I nodded and turned around to head to class alone.
