Once the group reached the seven hundredth step, they looked back and, as expected, saw nothing but a bottomless pit. The step that the siblings were sitting on had vanished into thin air.
Surya glanced at Vidyut with more than worry in his eyes, and Vidyut saw it.
"You must walk ahead of me," Vidyut suggested. Surya nodded without protest.
Surya wondered if it was the darkness inside him that followed him to that temple and created that abyss. All that was needed was the hellfire and the white spirit, and he was only a push away from the nightmare that plagued him for months. His thought was interrupted by the feeling of a tender hand on his waist.
"Do not treat me as a maiden," Surya said pointedly, somewhat irate by the gesture.
"No, but I will treat you like my prince."
