Indranil sat across Queen Bhanumati. Sitting inside the cold, dark room without any windows and only half a dozen oil lamps, Prince Indra found it hard to discern his mother's expressions. She appeared more worn-out than other days, the wrinkles on her brow deeper than usual. If only mother could trust him with the matters in hand….
"The timing of the royal procession could not be more suitable." High minister Chakrayu struggled to keep his voice low. "Their guards would be down, my queen, after their successful mission to the east. And since we offered assistance with the relief efforts, they have little reason to suspect us."
The queen frowned. "They have every reason to suspect us, High Minister Chakrayu. We cannot escape once we strike. We must be ready when the time comes." It was in a mother's nature to always be watchful.
"That is wise, my queen. Hence, I hastened my visit to the south. I am leaving in five days."
