They had arrived. Well, it seemed like it? Considering that they were in the middle of an empty street, they had some doubts. No cars were seen, only broken blinking lights and smoke oozing out from the alleyways. Did August make a mistake somewhere in his calculations? This seemed like nothing close to the location that they were described.
Whether consciously or subconsciously, Quinn took the lead as he stepped out and started taking out his binoculars inside his bag and started looking around, almost immediately, he spotted tall metal fences that looked as if it could belong to a jail centre. Turning around, he tossed his equipment to Ethan with no hesitation. "There's a fence on the east side. That might be it, don't you think?" he asked, sounding confident. He knew.
Ethan looked through the zoomed specs and squinted, he referred back to the picture he had on his watch and nodded. "We're going to head in. Does everybody have their earpieces installed and working properly?" he looked through the binoculars again, not at the fence but at the moonlit sky.
"Should be, I checked earlier." Killan reassured as he stroked through his hair. "Distractors, team 1. Attackers, team 2. We've gone through this multiple times. If one of you gets caught and held as a prisoner due to your foolish mistakes, we won't even spare a thought to save you, got it?" The pressure he emitted was intense. It was clear he was serious about this mission.
Heading for the fence, they placed their hands strategically in places where it would've been easy to grab out their equipment in the case of an unexpected situation. However, it seemed like the thugs in the alleyway had different plans, they held tiny knives in their hands with the most menacing looks they could replicate with their filthy and grimy faces.
"You all seem like pretty rich boys from the way you strut, You must have some money on ya. Hand it over now." a person in the middle said while he spinned the knife effortlessly with his boney fingers.
Ethan made an annoyed clicking sound and formed a fist with his hands. Without pulling his arm back too much, he swiftly landed a punch right into one of the thugs' gas masks, splitting it in half instantly.
Some of the thugs felt threatened by the insane strength shown by the teenager and backed off. However, the leader sneered and put one arm around his back and created weird hand gestures to his teammates. A signal.
Almost immediately, the thug's expression changed, their eyes became sharp and focused. Their pupils gradually becoming smaller. They looked like a pack of wild stray cats, ready to strike down their prey.
Everyone on Alpha got ready and was about to finish the fight in a flash before they saw black dark mist rising from the ground, it swirled like a hurricane and arrived near the thugs like a small gust of wind.
Without looking back, Killan walked around the group of thugs that were screaming in dismay while their voices slowly got drowned out by the black smoke.
Everyone followed behind and stared at the smoke, some who had never seen Killan fight before, shuddered. How could someone be this strong? This mission was going to be a piece of cake as long as Killan was there.
They reached the metal fences with a concerned look on many of their faces. The fences seemed to be powered by electric currents flowing through the conductor. A defensive barrier against pesky intruders.
"Let's just bust through this fence!" Felix exclaimed, he had no time to waste on such a small matter.
Killan dismissed the idea with a small wave. "My shadows will carry us over. Give it a moment. Don't move." He instructed, his eyes somehow becoming darker than before.
Sure enough, black smoke arose from the muddy ground, surrounding the feet of those who stood near the fence. The black smoke seemed to resembled the deceased hands, reaching out towards something to grab deperately onto as they pull down their victims and drown them in the earth's crust.
Unconsciously, everyone held their breath, was it possible to die of suffocation like this? But soon, smoke came up to their neck and veiled their faces, leaving them in the dark with no sense of what was happening around them.
After a while, the dark gave way to the light. Everyone felt obnoxiously dizzy as they regained their footing. They were now inside the fence while a large metal blocky building stood before them. It was so tall it reached the clouds and went beyond them. It's width was extraordinary, it could fit at least 10 hospitals inside. That was how big the government's building were.
Not surprisingly, guards were stationed at every corner, however, they somehow hadn't spotted the intruders that stood proudly near the gate.
Xavier placed one hand on Ethan's shoulder and gulped, "I may be hearing things wrong but there is a weird radiation in the air." He whispered before walking next to Killan.
"This is where we part." Quinn said with a sad look on his face while he looked around, making sure he hadn't been spotted before the distractors.
Adan, Felix and Castiel walked out from the formation and prepared themselves. They cracked their knuckles and joints and pulled out their weapons, it was time to start a distraction worthy to be named a massacre. hopefully.
Without warning, Adan flickered his whole left arm in a rough upward motion, the fence barricade was being dug out from the ground by an unknown force. Blue like sparks starting making themselves known. A loud siren went off, the sound was deafening. Enough to kill someone who was caught off guard.
But once Adan turned back, he saw the main group gone. They were fast and they knew what they were doing. Now it was up to him, Felix and Castiel to hold the fort.
Chaos erupted, people fought like wild animals. Weapons flew while blood splashed like paint. Even if they were normal humans, they were trained well. Enough to hold up their own fights against the mutates.
Castiel felt his breathing getting heavier, the wind blowing by like a tornado wasn't helping either. His arm was sore, his face was wet and he felt disgusting. But he did not dare to stop and drop his weapon, he swung the whip as it pierced through the air while his eyes glowed as if trying to put someone in a trance.
People paused in their tracks and in a split second, they dropped to their knees screaming in fear. And it all went silent when a black like object swung by.
"We all deserve a good meal after this, don't we?" Adan joked while they all walked backwards and bumped their backs onto each other.
"Are you seriously joking right now? Are you seeing that horrendous amount of ants escaping from those doors, coming for us like we're a buffet?" Felix muttered, with one of his eyes closed. A graze was tattooed across his face. It looked like he had taken a hit.
Castiel glanced around and cursed beneath his breath. There was no way to beat this many people. It was impossible. This mission was impossible. Winning was impossible. They should give up now. Before all of them were wiped out. When he was about to talk to the other two, he noticed something strange. Why..did Adan look so unharmed?
"Hah." Castiel breathed out loudly with a smile of disbelief on his face. They messed up.
CLACK! BANG! Castiel's vision blacked out the moment he allowed himself to be caught off guard. He figured it didn't matter. It was a losing battle. He used his last drop of energy to peek and saw Adan towering over him and Felix with the guards.
So Adan was 'it.'
The other side of team Alpha wasn't doing so well either. They had been cornered with multiple guns pressed on each of their heads. Some were in internal panic, one was struggling to hide his joy.
The cold air sinked down to the floor, while multiple grotesque noises echoed loudly. They were ready to be used.
