From the Greek myth about Perseus and Medusa, Aron speculated that he wouldn't be petrified if he looked at the monster's reflection. But, he wasn't so sure if a myth could be trusted.
He decided to test the validity of the myth. He grabbed his mithril sword, but this time he didn't light it up with flames.
He inched towards the Medusa, keeping the sword before his eyes. His eyes were open, but they were looking at the Medusa's feet, not the Medusa's face.
The monster's feet were covered in gravel and were the second in the list of ugliest things Aron has ever seen. First was a cockroach he had dissected in high school. Trying not to remember any more disgusting objects, Aron moved closer to the Medusa.
Once he was a few meters away from the Medusa, he leaped and swung his sword right past the Medusa's eyes. The Medusa didn't even have the time to blink. All it could do was take a step back as a reflex.
Although Aron hadn't killed the Medusa, he was still satisfied. He was now sure he could look at the Medusa through the reflection of his sword. After all, when he swung the sword past the Medusa's eyes, it looked at its reflection but didn't get petrified.
Keeping in mind that he could look at the Medusa through his sword's reflection, Aron, once again, darted towards the Medusa.
This time he didn't look at its feet.
Instead, he was glancing at his sword and looking at the reflection of the creature.
Once the Medusa's neck was in sight, Aron immediately closed his eyes, lit his sword with flames, and cleanly sliced of the creature's neck.
This time, instead of air, he felt his sword slice through the monster like paper.
The Medusa, immediately fell dead, and evaporated, leaving behind only its dropped items. He picked up the items. One was its head, which was hideous and had dozens of venomous snakes making its hair. Its eyes had lost their luster. There was also a vial of poison. It was a D class poison, a grade higher than the poison he had gotten from the lizards.
Aron didn't have much time to celebrate.
He needed to get Alissa out of the dungeon for treatment. Although Alissa was no longer a stone, she still hadn't woken up.
Aron put the items in his backpack and ran to Alissa, checking on her pulse to make sure she wasn't dead. He felt a thin pulse running throughout her body and could also feel heat emitting from her body. In fact, it felt as if she was burning up. Aron anxiously put his hand on her forehead. He felt both relieved and worried. She wasn't dead which was good news. However, now, she had a high fever, and he didn't have any potion to cure it.
Aron grabbed Alissa and carried her in his arms. He hoped that they would reach the end of the dungeon soon.
Just as he took a few steps, princess carrying Alissa, he almost dropped her. It wasn't that she was heavy, but instead, he had came upon an unexpected object.
Aron put Alissa on the floor and went closer to the object. Before, while fighting with the Medusa, he hadn't noticed the pillar behind it. Aron gazed at the pillar. Embedded on top of it was a teleportation stone. Aron had only heard about it, but he immediately knew it was the portal which leaded out of the dungeon.
From the tale of other adventurers, he knew that the teleportation stone could only be found after defeating the boss monster.
Aron gasped in surprise. That meant the Medusa was the boss monster, and he had defeated it.
Aron was overjoyed and wanted to dance, however, he realized that he needed to quickly leave the dungeon in order to save Alissa.
Aron took Alissa's hand and then grabbed onto the teleportation stone.
