Chapter 2 - Goblin!

After the Cataclysm ended, Awakeners grouped together and formed Guilds. Guilds managed the sale and distribution of monster materials. Guilds also owned most of the dungeons in the world. This meant that adventurers had to join guilds to enter dungeons. Then, the adventurers sold the monster materials to the guild. Many times the guild allowed the adventurer to keep the artifacts the monsters dropped, however, it depended on the stated terms between the guild and the adventurer.

Aron Winter wasn't strong enough to be in a guild. Most adventurers had to be strong or had to have talent in order to get recruited by a guild. In order to get money, Aron entered dungeons owned by the AMA, or the American Monster Association, and sold the materials he got through his own means.

Today again, Aron Winter was entering the F Class Dungeon near his house. Dungeons and adventurers were dividing in classes. F, E, D, C, B, A, and S (with F being the lowest and S being the highest). Adventurers could only enter dungeons which were the same or were a lower class than them. Rarely, when given permission, adventurers could enter a higher rank. However, Aron was never given permission. This meant that the only dungeons that Aron could enter were F class.

Aron showed his Adventurer ID to the government officials guarding the gate. His ID showed a big F on it and had the name Aron Winter. It also showed other general information about Aron, but it didn't included the information about his abilities, which were noted in his status window.

Every Awakener has a status window, which showcased their abilities. It was only accessible by the adventurer. Others could see each other's status windows if they had an appraisal tool. However, most appraisal tools were expensive. Aron had to use all his savings in order to buy one. He had bought the tool to learn more about the items he scavenged from inside a dungeon.

As Aron entered the dungeon, he could hear the whispers behind him.

"Isn't he that F-ranker?"

"Yeah, he is. Look at him. Could he be anyone else?"

When Aron took his first step into the dungeon, he immediately opened his status window, hoping his stats had changed. It had already become an everyday routine for him.

Aron sighed. Nothing has changed. He went to his usual path. Slowly, he crept behind a goblin, one of the weakest creatures in a dungeon. He put his lens-like appraisal tool before his eye and checked the goblin's stats.

The goblin was barely stronger than him. As if sensing Aron's presence, the goblin looked around. However, seeing nothing, the goblin went to its cave. Like always, today too, Aron hoped to find the location of the goblin's collected loot and transfer the treasure to his backpack.
