Chapter 6 - 5: California John's High School

Elsa's Pov

"Wake up, sleepy head," Mom shook me to wake me up.

I opened my eyes slowly. 6.30a.m. Too early! "Five more minutes, Mom!" I moaned.

I had already been gotten use to the feeling of my new bed. Feels like a dream. It wasn't a particularly huge one, yet it is surprisingly comfortable that I immediately doze up the night before, escaping my worries and into my dreams. I couldn't remember much of my dream, but one thing's for sure was that my new bed was much cosier than sleeping with a mattress on the cold hard floor in the Mexico night.

"No, no, no! Today's your first day of school. You don't want to be late, do you?"

Then, I remembered. Today's the day. To experience loneliness. Embarrassment. Hate. I woke up with tiredness in my eyes, my feet dragged on the floor as I went to wash up.

Dad had some time before work so he insisted on driving me on my first day of school. In the car, my mind flew away. One side of my mind chanted I can do it. I can do it. The other side debated I can't do it. I can't do it. I cleared off my mind, not allowing my thoughts to get in my nerves. I tucked my soft blue gloves that wrapped around my hands in hope of easing my tension.

"This really isn't creepy at all!" I said. "It's actually... beautiful. And only kind of in the middle of nowhere."

I'd seen the pictures in brochure just yesterday, of course, but I didn't believe it could be as nice as the glossy images made it appear. The brochures were suppose to make us want to come here, right? But I'd been mistaken; the reality of this place was way better in person.

It didn't mean I'd like it, but at least it was nice to look at.

Dad laughed. "You're right: it is beautiful. And right in the center of town too. If I'm not wrong, Mom might be taking over that coffee store just across the street..." He trailed off as we slowed and turned through the heavy wrought iron gates of California John's High School.

The campus is enormous, full of rolling green lawns dotted by clusters of trees and crisscrossed by several roads and smaller walking paths. A mixture of buildings, varied in age and size but all beautiful, interspersed the equally beautiful grounds. The walls are covered with white and reddish-brown paint. At the front of the school, there is a beautiful fountain for display.

"Have fun on your first day, sweetie." Dad dropped me off at the entrance and I was left all alone to discover the grounds myself.

It was my first day at school so naturally, I had a cold feet. Everyone was looking at me, every pair of eyes were observing and judging if I am going to be one of the popular kids or an outcast.

Alright. New life, new me. No more wasting my life away. It's time to sort out myself ... well hopefully. And what better place to do that than Cali John's High—the most prestigious school in L.A.?

Students bordered around the school everywhere: chatting, gossiping, rushing through their latest assignments. There was a group of seniors sitting by the steps, so I walked over and asked, "Hey! Um... could I ask where is..."

Without letting me finish my sentence, they simply walked away. I guess I'm just transparent here. Maybe I can get used to this place, I thought.

"Hey, I won't talk to them if I were you." I heard a voice, a familiar one, behind me.

Out of curiosity, I turned around to the source of the voice. I couldn't believe my eyes. Behind me stood three familiar looking figures!

"You..." Liv and I pointed to each other. "I..." The both of us then pointed to ourselves. "AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!" Two girls, jumping up and down at the entrance of California John's High School, screaming. Nothing abnormal.

Michael and Peter both said in unison,"You... what are you doing here?"

I explained right where we left off after we calmed ourselves down.

"It's a miracle! All of us will be spending the next four years together!" Maybe this would not be so bad after all.

"You were asking?" Peter responded.

"What? Oh yeah—" I retraced what I was saying, "— do you know where to the principal's office?"

Liv gesture, "Yeah. Follow us!"
