Chapter 9 - 8: Rare Talent

Elsa's Pov

Stressed with all the commotion just now, I ran until I was greeted with a hallway of closed plastic doors. The first few doors lead to rooms of computer labs. At that point in time, I only want to avoid my fears. To hide myself from the outside world. I desperately tried opening each door, like a helpless child searching for shelter from a raging storm, but all seem to be hopeless. They were locked. Of course. Who would leave the computer labs unlock and unattended? Approaching the last door of the hallway, I did not had much faith and was ready to run to the next possible location. Somehow, this particular door made way and ajarred. The door opened to reveal tens and hundreds of instruments. Musical instruments. From the tiniest instrument of a triangle, to the biggest instrument of a harp. It felt that there was something calling to me, drawing myself into the music room.

Honestly, I've never seen so many instruments in my life! I would like to live here in a world of fantasy! But of course, there's no such thing as fantasy in my world.

With just a look, there were mant types of instruments that the school had. Right off the bat, three drum sets are placed at the three corners of the room, surrounded by many other percussion instruments. Two keyboards stationed at each side. See, the four bass guitars are placed right behind the acoustic ones. The electric guitars are at the other corner of the room.

How did I know all this?

Walking over to the keyboard, I ran my hands along the plastic black board, and then the black-and-white key tiles. What if I played something? Curiosity came to me as I began pressing the keys carefully. F-sharp. B-flat. A. I ain't no keyboard player, but I felt really confident here. Some thing's gotten into my nerves because with no hesitation, I took a seat and began playing it.

~~~
{Applause from door} I turned my head towards the door and my friends stood there, all three of them, clapping for me.
They've heard the WHOLE thing. I never ever sang to anyone in my entire life. Never to my family. Never to my friends. I froze in place, unable to process what the heck just happened. I don't know what's more frightening: me playing an instrument I had no experience in, or unknowingly performed in front of my newly-made friends.
"I...I know I shouldn't be here. But I just couldn't help it, I'm sorry..." I was ashamed of myself.
"What are you talking about?" Michael affirmed, " I've never heard anyone sing like that. That was wonderful!"
"Really?"
Michael nodded firmly. For once in my entire life, I was over the moon. No one ever compliment my singing. Mostly because no one has ever heard my voice.
"Elsa! I've met you since elementary school and I didn't even know you had that talent!" Liv exclaimed, "Did you learn all this? The singing? The piano? I don't even remember you taking music lessons when we were in elementary school! Unless... *gasp*... unless you secretly play the piano and never told me!"
Liv's exaggerations never fails to lighten my mood. "To be honest, I actually don't know. I swear I've never took piano before. As crazy as it might sound, it's like I was always meant to know."
"How about the song? I don't think I have heard it before."
"It's... it's an original," my voice was so soft, near to a whisper.
"As in... you wrote this?" Michael chimed in.
Liv sarcastically opened her eyes wide and mouthed "woah". My worry finally turned into a slight giggle.
Peter took a step closer. "You know, you should totally compete in the talent competition held next month!"
"Yeah. The school hasn't had a talented singer or musician for centuries now. If you compete, we're sure that you're gonna win!" Michael added.
"Everyone in school will flip their crowns if they heard you sing! Um... not that they have any crowns..."
"What! I...I can't. You see, I'm not very confident... Especially when I'm on stage. Just... give me some time to think about it?"
All I heard after that day were rumors of Blake's 'strange behaviour' and my 'bravery' against him. This was only my first day here and I've already caused trouble. Will I ever have a normal life? This was not what I imagined first day of school would be at all.
