Chapter 3 - The Skeleton

Aaron looked around, as his crimson-glowing eyes faded to a more dull red colour. His eyes were drawn to his surroundings, which were essentially just rock. Rock and dirt. He must be in the dungeon, like Ameratsu had told him about. He needed to find out where he was, and what he was able to do.

First, though, he needed to get in touch with his body. By that, he needed to prepare himself for his new way of working with this new skeletal body that was provided for him. He wasn't able to speak, which was a downside, but he could live with it. He preferred his own company anyways. He put his bony hands on his head, and began to twist. His head began to turn around, and it didn't stop. It just kept rotating around, until it rotated back to its original position. Since skin wasn't in the way, he was able to do so many more things with his body.

He began to walk forward, expecting himself to fall over, yet it was strangely easy. His body simply felt like it did while he was alive, except without any senses. He could hear things, and see things, but that was it. He couldn't smell, or speak, or feel anything. This was the cost of not having any senses, but it was worth it.

Aaron wondered how he would access his system, and then he had the bright idea of this

'System. Open!'

'Alright, so I have no bio points or atk points. That makes sense. Now, all I have to do is find out where there are some dead animals.'

Aaron closed the menu, and began to walk around, looking for the remains of dead animals, yet his search turned up nothing. He kept on looking, and, after about two hours, he saw the carcass of...a giant spider? There was one downside though. It was currently being eaten by a bear twice the height of Aaron, and had claws that looked like it could cut through diamond. Blood covered its fur, like a second coating. It held its side with its left arm. It must be injured. This would be his chance!

Aaron took one of the bones out of his ribcage. He pulled back, and using his strength to fire it forward. He forgot about his dexterity though. The bone went arching towards the skull of the bear, and implanted itself there, causing a crack to slowly appear on the skull of the bear, as it shone with a shining red light. Suddenly, the light retracted, as the had of the bear exploded outwards, leaving bloody chunks of its body lying around the area. Aaron looked at the sight, and would have gagged. If he was able.

[You have killed: Level 9 Dungeon Bear (High Variant)]

[150 Exp has been awarded]

[New Level: 5/10, Exp: 0/60]

'Wait a minute. Halfway to level ten? What happens when I'm at level ten? Well, I won't worry about it for now, but it worries me that that bear was a "High Variant" and was level nine. I need to check my stats due to levelling up. It makes sense.'

'System. Open!'

[Atk Points: 4]

'Huh. Alright, now, I have four ATK points. What to do with them....'

[Menu Unlocked: Skills]

'What? New skills? This is quite the handy little thing. Let me go check through them.'

[Opening Skill Menu...]

[Lower Skills: 107 Items Available]

[Medium Skills: 21 Items Available]

[Higher Skills: 11 Items Available]

[Magic: 1 Item Available]

'So, there are different types of skills that can be purchased? I wonder what is in the magic section...'

[Magic]

[Time]

[Cost: 25 Atk Points]

[Locked]

[Locked]

[Locked]

The list went on for a while, all of them just showing [Locked]. It made sense. It would be way to broken for him to get access to a whole ton of magic spells early on, but still, he'd have to level twenty-five times before being able to purchase time. And he didn't even know what to do with it. Did he need a special catalyst to use it? What would the time even be affecting? A second?

He went out of the menu, and a new 'Notice' had been placed.

[Notice. Skills may be locked away due to class limitations, such as Hardened Skin, so they will not show up on this list.]

So, there were loads of different abilities that he couldn't access, huh? Well, it made sense. He didn't think it would be possible for him to grow 'Hardened Skin', since he didn't even have skin in the first place.

He decided to check the lower level skills, and found another notice.

[Notice. Skills that are unable to be purchased currently due to lack of level do not show up here.]

Well, that cleared some things up. This also proved that there were loads of skills he couldn't access yet, but, as he was scrolling through the large list of Available Skills, one caught his eye.

[Physical Enhancement]

[Type: Active]

[Description: A skill which will allow its user to physically upgrade their stats for a period of time, as to increase total power]

[Cost: 2 Atk Points]

'Oh damn, this will be useful in a fight. It could definitely be a powerful asset if used correctly.'

[Purchase?]

[>Yes<] [No]

[Purchased]

Aaron still had his system up, so he went and upgraded his skills, those being Bone Throwing and Physical Enhancement by one level each.

He then looked at the bodies of the dead monsters, and saw a bit of exposed flesh. He remembered what he had been told. To get Bio Points, he needed to eat monster flesh. This was going to be disgusting.

He pulled a piece of meat out from the body of the spider, and bit into it. It was like biting into cooked meat which had been soaked in cold water for three hours, and left to dry, but was still wet. A disgusting texture. He wasn't feeling any urge to spit it back out. He didn't have any gag reflexes.

Of course, he didn't know about the texture. That was taken from a human soldier on the surface who had been dared to do the same.

He just kept eating, not ever getting full, because the second it fell down his jaw, it disintegrated, and turned into Bio Points. He didn't really even need to chew, it was just habit from his human life. He sat there, beside the two carcasses, just eating. After eating all of the meat he could scavenge from the bodies, he realised that he had been awarded some things while eating.

[Titles:

(Bear Eater: Earned by eating either ten normal bears, or one higher bear. Effects: New skill).

(Spider Eater: Gained by eating an Arachnicus Detri {Detrimental Spider}. Effects: New skill).]

[New Skills: Bone Blade Lv1

Archanids Climb Lv1 (Grants the ability to climb up walls using your appendages)]

Aaron was quite happy with himself. He had gained new abilities, and was now much stronger. He began to walk away, but his happy walk was interrupted by the loud sound of a wall being destroyed behind him, and he looked behind him.

A giant worm looked him dead in the eyes, as bloodlust filled its irises. Aaron quickly broke into a sprint, as the worm followed, not too far behind, planning to kill him.
