Chapter 6 - The rebirth of the Emperor

I was quite surprised by what I saw when I opened my eyes. I was in a bright, really open space like the Uyuni in Bolivia. There were two staircases leading, up, down and the one just went in the middle. There was a void at the end of all three paths.

I realised I was in the afterlife.

Not everybody knows this, unless you read specialized books about it, but you get a chance to reincarnate into two ways. One is to reincarnate into your past self. Or you can go to your future self. It might sound cool but, truth to be told, you lose your memories once you step into the void. So it's really like a reset of everything. If you want to keep your memories then you can stay as a spirit. But, since you had no substance it will be very boring, and both pointless so we just choose. Plus even if you are a spirit, the other spirits are just invisible. So very lonely.

There was no heaven and hell like other countries. I mean it's very hard to clarify whether one was good and the other was evil. I mean sure, but what if they were neither? Where did they go? So we didn't do that.

I always wanted to go to the past. I adored all the sports there. I also adored the future. What would the future be like? Flying cars? Will there be teleportation? If you couldn't choose which one you wanted to go, then you can just walk in the middle of the road. It chooses randomly, and it chooses the time where it most suits you. I decided to go to the middle. I stepped inside.

"Your Highness. It is time for you to wake up."

I quickly woke up.

"You woke up quicker than I thought you would. Maybe the Academy of Euse was worth it?" a woman who wore an old fashioned maid uniform, mused. She brought in a bowl of water with a towel.

Did she just say Your Highness? Judging by the style of the room I went to in the past. That is unless the future becomes different from what I thought. And she just said Academy of Euse? And, oh my gosh, I remember my past life! I quickly grabbed a mirror that was beside the bed.

I stared at myself. It was me indeed except for my eye colour and hair color and pale skin. My eye color was beautiful sea green eyes. My hair was lighter. My skin wasn't tanned. This looked just like the painting I saw before I died.

"Hey, don't call me Your Highness right now. Just call me by my name?'' I asked as I tried not to sound like a different person.

"But Your Highness-" she protested.

"Don't make me repeat it." I ordered.

"Aurelia Helena Asterias Amargo," she winced and quickly spoke again. "Will you forgive me for saying your name?" she trembled in fear.

KNOCK KNOCK.

Another maid entered.

"Head maid Sara, the Empress is calling for you. I will take care of Her Highness, so go right now" the newcomer said.

Sara left as the newcomer just stood by the door. I quickly washed my face as I tried to understand the situation.

Ok, so i'm still not so sure how old I am right now, but it is past 19, since I Was not in Euse at the very moment. I was scared. I was too overwhelmed. I wanted to run away and end this life. My thoughts were all over the place. I had to rein my emotions.

The maid brought in my breakfast. It truthfully didn't look very appetizing so I decided to pass, since I wasn't very hungry and sat down on a wooden desk. I brought out some papers and began to write.

First things first. How do I still have my memories? Why was I not reincarnated into a baby? I can't believe my former self was Rela or Aurelia, in her proper name. I wonder what's happening in my past modern life, what should I do and what is happening right now.

But my mind seemed to be more at ease here. Was my actual self supposed to be here? Did I belong here? Maybe that was why I was so into old fashioned sports.

Even so, it was so unbelievable and confusing. I knew very well I wasn't asleep. If i was asleep then i would have woken up by blinking hard.

I started to wonder if other people who had died, also remembered their past life. But it was hard to know that. Because since everybody lost their memories, they kind of move accordingly like robots. And also maybe they don't have the courage to tell me, a girl with high status.

Next major problem, what do I do now? I mean like if I side-stepped a bit then I knew very well that the other things would change and the future would change, and then I wouldn't know the outcome. Of course I can risk it, but I was afraid that if another war came or something major would happen. I couldn't risk it. Unless I had a backup plan, which I definitely did not have.

A sudden thought popped up. I think it was a thought of my former self. I quickly scribbled it on the paper to not forget that thought. It was probably a minor rebellion about the throne. I doubt Rela would even be bothered to call it a rebellion.

"Your highness, Second Prince is here."

The Second Prince? I think the Second Prince was a great aide who helped her sister in her reign. His name was Aeson Alistair Dilon Amargo, or it might've been Ason Dilion Amargo, but I'll find out later anyways.
