Chereads / Prevented My Empire From Falling / Chapter 9 - Long live the Queen

Chapter 9 - Long live the Queen

I heard chanting from the entrance of the palace. There were many people, at least 50 or 100.

We continued as we could make out the words.

"Long live the Queen!" they chanted.

Ah, of course, they might have lost hope when they heard I was poisoned by the Queen. They thought i died--- Even the King and Queen thought so, although the queen was suspicious because of the amount of mana i left.

"Citizens!" I boomed.

They calmed down.

"I apologize for how long you all have suffered. But we will become great again. Greater than before!" I said the exact same thing as Aurelia had done.

That brought out a big cheering and a round of applause.

The next few weeks were busy busy busy. The paperwork got nearly out of hand but thankfully the Princes helped me.

I constructed the emergency tunnel personally since I didn't want any other people to know about this.

I checked out the Royal Knight's sword skill with my brothers, and they were actually quite good. But not perfect, so I ordered them to train 6 days a week. Then gradually I decreased the hours they trained a day.

Then there were also the traitors… Well, they more kind of were stealing some goods that were meant to be for the commoners, and they gave it away to the neighbouring countries, just so that they get on their good side. Instead of confronting them I decided to let them go--- since that's what Rela did. I crossed it out from my checklist.

I also got many letters who wanted to be my partner, basically the suitors…. I got many marriage proposals from different nobles. But i was so busy i kind of ad libbed saying a kind decline to all of them--- which took a lot of my time.

Then there were the consorts as well. It was safer to get a consort or a partner (Though both hold the same purpose), especially a strongly influenced one to keep others at check. But I had my brothers so it should be fine.

My personal lady-in-waiting entered.

"Your Highness, I think it might be best if you start choosing your consorts." Sara said as she set down the tray with tea.

Great, just right on topic. I ignored it.

"It isn't urgent so you can take your time. The Princes are overlooking a list of nobles so you can check it later."

"I see. You may go."

"As you wish, Your Majesty.."

I also realized that because of my tiredness my memories of the past life have become numb. I knew I had to get to sleep but I wanted to finish the paperwork quickly. I finished some paperwork deep into the night.

After months of settling down, things have quieted down.

During most months we slowly started conquering countries. And I personally went to war. I left my brothers in the palace to do all the paperwork while I was gone, and I conquered loads of places.

I knew very well war wasn't really good but, i just followed Rela. It was one of her symbols. She was known as the 'The fearless Amazon-like Warrior Of the Battlefield.' or sometimes the 'If you meet a lady, run for your life or you get killed.' but obviously that name was too long so they went on with the first name.

Maybe because of my title the war went on pretty smoothly, because the other nations surrendered as soon as they heard we were coming. As I conquered it soon turned into an Empire. I became the Empress/Emperor at age 21 although I wasn't crowned officially.

But as these months passed, I made it official that I was actually losing my memories of the past. I was getting Rela's thoughts more often, but of course my brain had a limit in its capacity. Or maybe it was just because everything had to have a consequence. One day I would panic trying to remember Rian's face or Jason's original face. So I started to write all the memories of my past on the papers to keep record.

Sometimes I would feel a sense of deja vu, whenever I saw a face that was familiar. Which happened whenever I saw any noble, maid, knight, or a commoner. It felt so unsatisfying whenever you felt like you knew who it was but just couldn't replace it.

The memory loss was so stressful I even thought of going to the High Temple. But frankly, i was too lazy to make all the preparations, plus i might change the future, plus they might not welcome me, if they heard about a prophecy where i will be the cause for a huge destruction which affects the continent. Also i didn't want any rumour or whatsoever, that the now called, Imperial Family is weak and vulnerable like any other kingdom. Since I didn't feel like damaging the Prince's pride of the strong, invincible family I decided not to go.

Not only was my memory loss, but I had to concentrate a lot just to control this body. Yes, i mean i don't have to, but if i don't train my mental stability, then i might not return when i have to change the flow.

I wish Callista was here…. I haven't seen her yet, or maybe I have. My precious cousin in whom I thought was perfect in all aspects I wouldn't have minded turning gay. Well, if we were not cousins that is.

I had asked Ian who knows every person who is close to the Imperial Family, which is to say all noble families.

"Hmmm. Callista?" he asked. He closed his eyes.

"Or a name that sounds like Callista. Wait, you're not sleeping are you?"

He stayed still.

Finally he opened his eyes.

"I don't think there's any person with a sta in her name. And no, I wasn't sleeping."

I started doubting him.

"What about John?" I asked.

"Are you doubting your brot-"

"What. about. John?" I repeated.

He just sighed and instead of closing his eyes like last time he just said: "He's a noble. He is the Baron's second son. He-"

"Enough. Thank you brother." I left the room.

Although i haven't met all the people i knew, i have met most of the major people. Then what about Callista? Maybe she was reincarnated to become a commoner. Or she was born in a far away nation which i haven't conquered yet.

It was so lonely here, knowing that you were the only one who could change the future. But then again my memories were fading so i might forget to do that part. I still had pieces of my memories which were probably meant to fade a few weeks ago but thankfully Rela had mana, by which i mean a little mana left, because she had to protect herself in the poisoning, i managed to put a leash on my memories. It took concentration, but it was worth it. I wouldn't risk losing all my memories by losing my grip in this magic thing. Plus, my mental stamina was so tiring, I could barely take control over Rela's body as easily as before.
