Pete choked hard on his beer. He just had the same feeling that woke him up from his sleep a few days ago. Somebody, somewhere was using an Immortal Grade ability. It had been just for a fleeting moment, but it was enough for him to be able to track the rough location. It was in a busy and crowded area. That location had many restaurants and pubs, and it was always filled with people.
Concerned, he turn on the television news and turned up the volume, keeping his ears out for any reports on chaos that might be happening in that area. He kept his television on for an hour but there was no report of anything major.
He picked up his phone and called Leah. 'Hey, sorry to bother you. Just wanted to check if there are any abnormal news reports today?'
'Nope, none so far. I have been covering celebrity scandals these few days. The biggest news was the Philosophy pop band disbanding. All their fans are moaning about it. Why? What happened? Did you manage to sense something new?' Leah replied.
'Yeah, I had a brief feeling but this ability, whatever it is, it's strong. I have to find the person before something big happens, or if members of the public saw it.'
'Alright, I will keep you informed if there's any new updates. Let me know if you sense more about this person.' Leah said.
Pete ended the phone call. Either the ability was not very obvious, or it was used in secret. A person with uncontrolled Telekinesis ability or similar would have attracted lots of attention at the busy location. The police and the news centre would be the first to hear about it. However, Leah, who worked at the news centre, did not have any news on it which means that it was highly likely nobody knew about it yet.
There was nothing else he could do apart from waiting for the user to use his ability again. He was able to track down the old lady with Telekinesis was because she was using her ability for quite some time, flying objects all over her house, thus allowing him to pinpoint her exact location. However, Alycia's ability had happened in less than a fraction of a second. This led him to wonder what sort of ability this was.
The next day, Alycia woke up and saw that it was already past noon. She had been so tired the previous night that she had passed out on her bed. Working so hard yesterday coupled with using her ability had drained her of her energy. She had intended to try out her newfound ability today.
However, thinking of it made her felt scared suddenly. It was actually kind of creepy to have this happen suddenly to her. Also, there might be even more negative consequences that she was unaware of. Plus she wanted to make full use of her off day without passing out again.
The house had been in a complete mess ever since she started work at the restaurant. The floor was dusty and had black streak marks on some parts. The pile of clean laundry laid in the corner waiting to be folded, while the dirty laundry laid in the washing machine for days. Bills, brochures and other miscellaneous stuffs laid lying around on every available surface. Only the kitchen sink remained clean as Alycia hated dirty dishes and a dirty sink. It attracts cockroaches and lizards.
There was simply not enough time for tidying and cleaning. Alycia was always too lazy in the morning before work and too tired at night after work to maintain the house. Unless she wanted to spend her next three off days living in grime and squalor, she had better start cleaning her house. Putting these thoughts at the back of her mind, Alycia started to busy herself with household chores.
It was after office hours and Pete had just ended work at his beer making factory. He owned this factory. Having born with a silver spoon, Pete was able to afford almost anything he wanted in his life. Setting up his dream of owning a beer making factory was easy too.
He made his way down to the basement level and unlocked a door with his work pass. There were three people in the room already, chatting and laughing with each other. Adjacent to this room was a medium sized laboratory separated with a glass wall. A lady was working in there with a lab coat on, too engrossed in her work to hear him enter.
All three people in the first room looked up at Pete when he entered. He nodded at them. 'How's your progress?' Pete asked the man on the left.
'It's great! Initially I have only been able to levitate for 45 minutes but I have been able to do it for four hours continuously yesterday. I am working on levitating around instead of on the spot.' Jasper replied enthusiastically. 'However, it's quite hard because I feel so tired while trying it.' Pete could see Jasper's face fall when he said the last sentence.
'It's alright. You have already made great progress. Remember to give Nadia your blood sample when you leave for the day.' Pete said.
'How about you?' Pete gestured to the lady in the middle.
'Nothing, still the same. Still able to survive underwater as long as I want. I even slept underwater for a whole night last week. I think I might have reached the peak of my ability. Now I just help Nadia with her lab work whenever I can.' Trina shrugged.
'And you?' Pete gestured to the young male adult on the right.
'So far I have been able to use my ability more without getting tired. I am still working on being able to manipulate memories.' Wilson replied.
Out of the three, Wilson had a more special and useful ability. He was able to show a person images in the mind by touching him or her. With that power, he could have the potential to upgrade it to manipulate memories of people and that was what Pete hoped Wilson could do one day.
This little organisation Pete was running was dedicated to help people with newly manifested abilities to cope and manage. Once they were able to do that, they could help new members, if there were any, to do the same. They were also encouraged to improve their abilities. Then probably many years the road, they might hopefully be able to harvest and transfer the abilities to people who had none, of course to those who are willing to pay a pretty penny. That explained the existence of the laboratory. Money was always needed to run this organisation and the laboratory and it could not always come from Pete's own pocket.
Of course, this entire organisation had to be kept as secret as possible.
