Chapter 5 - The Monthly Meeting

The four of them proceeded to spend the next three hours displaying and improving their abilities. Jasper was floating around the room, trying to alter his speed whenever and how much he wanted. Wilson was practising on Trina, trying to input images of events in her mind. He still needed more control over what kind of images he wanted to show to the other party. Usually, it shows the images that he was thinking of the most at that time, and end up spamming images that spiralled out of control when he got exhausted. He needed to practise more to prolong his endurance and exercise more control. Pete was sitting in a corner on a leather sofa and was trying to focus on sensing their abilities.

He needed to improve his location tracking as well as to know who is casting it. This would be greatly convenient in the long run if he could master it. All he could sense right now was three silhouettes casting their abilities in front of him. He could not even tell their gender. If he wanted to find the Immortal user, he was going to need to improve.

Although Pete had this ability for a few years now, it was difficult to train as he would need a pool of consistent ability users for him to improve his ability. Right now, he only had monthly sessions and the occasional Jasper, Trina or Wilson utilising their abilities at home.

'Uh, what is that you keep trying to show me? Why do I keep seeing it?' Trina laughed slightly.

'Huh no! I don't want to show you that but I don't know why it keeps happening. Please pretend not to see it.' Wilson said quickly.

'Uhhh you keep showing me yourself flexing your whole body in the mirror. Are you sure you are not doing it on purpose?' Trina burst into laughter.

With that, the entire room burst into laughter at the thought of Wilson flashing his body to Trina. 'Nooo, I swear it wasn't on purpose! I just keep thinking of the gym I had done that day. Please just unsee it. Thanks!' Wilson said in between peals of laughter. 'I sincerely do not wish to flash you!'

'How do you suppose me to unsee it? It's right in my face!' Trina replied, laughing.

Upon hearing that, the entire room burst into another round of laughter. Monthly meetings for The Organisation were always fun. Everyone always looked forward to them as they provided a source of stress relief after a busy day at work. It was also a place where everyone understood and accepted each other. They knew what each other was going through. There was always confusion and fear when abilities first manifest. The Organisation was a place where people of the same kind could help each other to get through the initial phase and also to rely on each other after that if they ever need to.

The meetings also provide a platform to show any improvements or enhancements they have managed to make to their abilities. At the end of every monthly meeting, each of them would provide a small vial of their blood sample to Nadia, who would analyse them to check for any changes to their blood composition.

'How's the research going?' Pete asked Nadia.

'There's indeed some slight changes to the blood composition for Jasper. He has managed to make some progress to his ability right?' Nadia replied. 'Other than that, there is nothing game changing happening. And you know, I am going to need more equipment and space if you want me to further my research on harvesting.'

'Yes, I am sorry Nadia but this is all I can afford to provide you at the moment. Until I have more money, you would have to make do with this.' Pete said.

Even though Pete was born with a silver spoon and could set up his dream company easily, he still could not blow money on something that was not guaranteed. Who knows how long and how much it would take to harvest an ability? And what if it was really impossible to do that?

Plus, to embark on such a big project, he would need a team of lab researchers and a high end lab. This did not seem to be a one woman job. In addition, with so many lab researchers who would probably be people who did not possess any abilities, The Organisation's plan of keeping itself secret would be heavily compromised.

Another problem was the large high end lab that Nadia had so much wanted. Securing a large space with so much lab equipment was bound to attract unwanted attention, not to mention the need to maintain these equipment everyday. It was simply too difficult. They would have to make do with the current lab for now.

It was good that Pete's company was making money. He was able to pocket a comfortable salary for himself. Making alcohol as well as importing and exporting them would never go wrong. It was always in demand wherever and whenever. People drink alcohol when times are good or bad. Selling alcohol was good business.

The three hours flew by. Time always passed faster when you are having fun. Soon, they were all having their blood samples taken by Nadia, which means the monthly meeting was coming to an end. As they were leaving, Pete debated on whether to tell them that he had managed to sense an Immortal Grade ability, but decided against it.

Telling them would mean pointless excitement and endless questions. Pete just wanted to get home early. Jasper and the rest would always get very excited and curious whenever Pete sensed someone new. They would always asked questions like what was the ability, where was it, who casted it and all. Pete did not think he was able to answer these questions. He was not in the mood to entertain this.

Besides, Pete could not even find the user. He did not know if he would ever find him or her. If the user decides not to use the ability again, there was no way he would be able to locate him. Thinking about this made Pete realised that the user had not utilised the ability all day.

Maybe he or she doesn't even know they have an ability and could have just used it accidentally without knowing, Pete thought. This led to him wondering what kind of Immortal ability the user would accidentally use and not know about it. Shaking his head, Pete decided to go home and sleep it off.
