A new day has come and everyone is ready to start again. The hues have changed, the streets became livelier, the vehicles begin to traverse, and not long until the sunrise breaks into the horizon. The sun continues to elevate and at its peak, rays of beautiful sunshine shred throughout the entire city. And shortly afterwards New York City begins to hustle and bustle again.
While on one of the residential areas in New York, there resides a plain ordinary individual striving at the age of eighteen. She may not be living in the city slums but too bad she gets to experience the harsh reality of urban life.
She lives in a big empty home and it has been three years since she started to live by herself alone. To describe, she looks well for an average citizen. She has black silky hair, fair skin, sharp nose, lips thin, and has a good body structure. Yet she looks ridiculously petite in loosed shirts.
The day began to get busier as the worn out eighteen year old lass still sleeps on the couch fast asleep. The couch was by the window pane and eventually the breeze blew in. Suddenly a loud chime went out from the alarm clock. This woke her up in shock and she made a few grunts. The alarm went on inconsiderably, and this irritated her. So, she tried to look for it half asleep.
To her carelessness, her arms unintentionally bumped on the feeble clock. The clock helplessly fell on the carpet and finally it pacified. The few seconds of silence gave her a bit of peace. So, she went back to sleep. Surprisingly, the clock revived and went out a loud chime again. Losing her patience, she instinctively stands from the couch, took the clock with eyes closed, and throws it to the door.
BANG!
The clock smashed and it scattered into a million pieces. She yawned, stretched, and when she opened her eyes, she begins to realize what she had just done. Her emerald eyes began to get bigger and she made a face palm. She couldn't believe how horrible she had been when asleep. So regretting from her actions, she slowly went to the crash and carefully gathered the pieces next to the door.
"Oh no, no, no, no…" she tried to pick up the pieces.
"Dwaine!" A loud call came by and unexpectedly the door opened and it smacked right at her face.
--THUD—
"Dwaine? Hmm… just where is she?" her roommate looked around.
"(Moans in pain) Idiot, I'm right here." Dwaine answered.
"(Gasped) Oh, poor clock, what have they done to you?"
"POOR CLOCK!? Seriously Trish?"
"Gosh Dwaine, you're here?" Trishka pretended.
"Fudge you, you broke my nose."
"Ooh, you're bleeding Dwainey baby, I'm so sorry. But you know what, I think right now you should try banging your head on the door every morning. Trust me. You're much livelier than yesterday." Trishka let out a sarcastic advice.
"What?!"
Dwaine burst in reply and looked intently towards Trishka. Trishka saw this through and started to run away from her.
"Hey, come back here."
Dwaine left the clock pieces scattered and tagged on her sarcastic roommate named Trishka down the house. Trishka Abdul Khan came from Iran. She is about the size of Dwaine, tan skinned, hair's short, and blessed with beautiful eyelashes. Trishka is complying her senior high years in States like Dwaine does. She had a relative of her own residing in the city but decided to live with Dwaine just a couple of months ago.
The girls chased at each other and Dwaine was trying to get her revenge. Trishka was so fast at evading, so it took a hard time for Dwaine to reach her. By and by, the telephone by the kitchen leaves a beep. The girls keep on tailing on each other until a voice started to talk over the phone. This stopped them and they listened to the message.
"Umm… Buttercup… you still there, right? This is your uncle, Adrian." A middle-aged man called out to her.
"Oh come on bro, Dwaine is no longer a child dumb head. Are you trying to drop her confidence?" Another man interrupted on the call.
"Of course not dumb head, I'm her uncle. Why would I do that?"
"Then don't call her a buttercup if you care Uncle Adrian. You never know she might have a friend with her today, bro. So, be extra careful."
"Oh, you know what; I think you should call her first." Adrian passed the phone over his insensitive brother.
"Wait what? What's gotten into you, bro? You're the one talking over the phone. So beat it." His brother denied.
"Well after you insulted me, I think I change my mind. So, come on, you take the first call dumb head."
"Sorry, no can do bro. You first,"
"(Scoffs) what, you got all scared just talking over your niece, Andrew?" Adrian provoked his brother.
"Oh, you're challenging me?"
"I didn't said that,"
"But you meant it that way,"
"Sorry, don't know what you're talking about."
"Dwaine, no offense, but I think you're uncles must have also hit their heads this morning. I don't know, maybe like a 'family telepathy', you know like the thing that works on fictional movies." Trishka pulled a joke on Dwaine as she sips a tea on her cup.
"Ugh! Do you believe that? There is no such thing as 'family telepathy' or whatever, Trish. It's who they are now. And don't joke with the door, idiot. It really hurts, you know." Dwaine replied.
"Sorry, I really didn't mean to. Here, have a tissue."
Trishka apologized and Dwaine forgave her instantly. The bleeding continues and Trishka handed her out a tissue. Dwaine took this and neatly folded it to insert into her nostrils. While the call went on, Trishka shared another cup of tea to Dwaine and proceeds to the fridge to pick up their breakfast.
"Oh, come on Andrew! Are you planning to bury us in debt? Look, the communication meter is rolling fast, dumb head. So, are you doing this or you'll be paying fifty bucks?" Adrian continued.
"Ok, ok, alright, I'm talking. And stop calling me dumb head." Andrew finally agreed.
"Well, you did it first," Adrian blamed him.
"I did not," Andrew denied.
"Oh come on!"
"Ok, ok. (Clears throat) hi, Dwaine! How's your school? Heard you're kicking asses there kid. Well that's the spirit lass, but keep it down, ok? School's not a war zone kid. You may flunk at your graduation day. And it's good to know you stopped it. Good job! And keep at it. Then umm… a… remember, we will always be there for you. We know you've grown up well kid and I bet your parents must have been so proud of you. Hey, this is your Uncle Andrew, Dwaine. Not Adrian."
"Oh shut up, big head." Adrian interjected.
"No, you shut up Adrian," Andrew talked back.
"Well, I'm gonna talk next over the phone idiot! So, go shut up!"
"Ok, I'm shutting up! Happy?" Andrew replied and went away.
"Thanks, I really appreciate your silence bro! (Clears throat) Hi, Dwaine! Sorry about the mess. I really hope you're fine in there, lass. Good thing you went back in States kid. You keep up the good work, ok? And if possible, stop brawling. Holy shit! A hundred bucks already!? I'm sorry Dwaine but I gotta go, now. Bye."
--Call ends—
"Wait what? That's it? What about the dues coming this weekend? Are they going to trust me paying in this again?" Dwaine suddenly realized.
"What else?" Trishka replied as she prepares their sandwiches.
"No! This is not happening."
"Well, you always do that right? So get used to it, buttercup."
"But I haven't got my salary yet. And even so, I will still not be able to pay the overall dues this weekend, Trish. I might starve,"
"You know what; I think you should have a sandwich first. Here, take a bite." Trishka finished preparing the sandwiches and handed out one to Dwaine.
"Thanks."
Dwaine took the peanut butter sandwich and dug into it. By and by, she noticed Trishka packing up her things and ready leaving to school. She looks at her watch and almost choked from looking at the time. It was about fifteen minutes left before the class period to start. And yet she hasn't still left to school and worse, she hasn't even showered yet.
"Come on, Dwaine, we're getting late." Trishka rushed her.
"Bu-but I haven't bathe or changed my clothes yet." Dawine replied.
"Then do it fast, lazy head. We are not missing this class again. Now go!" Trishka pressed her.
Without a doubt, she immediately raced back to her room and rushed into the wardrobe. She took a comb and quickly brushed her hair off. Then instantly she changed her pajamas and wore a shirt and a hoodie on top. She wore fitted jeans below and a pair of leather boots on feet.
Time passes as she goes to and fro. The room was so messy and her things are everywhere. So whatever books or papers and pen she could find in the room, she just picked it up and packed it all into her backpack. Then immediately she rushed down the stairs and catches up to Trishka by the front door.
Trishka opened up the way and instantly closed the door. And right then, they jumped into Trishka's car and drove quickly to school. It was almost eight sharp when the bell suddenly rang and both are still racing into the classroom. The bell stopped and upon their arrival together they slammed the door. This startled everyone and Mister Murphy's pen went flying into the air in shock.
"Sweet Jesus, what the hell…" their teacher cussed and paused to adjust his eyeglasses, "Ms. Kingsleigh? Miss Khan? Just what happened to you two?" Mr. Murphy was surprised to see them drenched in sweat while he recovers from the outburst of his two tardy students.
"(Panting) well, we umm… a… running to your class, sir." Dwaine politely replied.
"Wow, you sure did a marathon, girls."
--Everyone laughed—
"Silence," Mr. Murphy demanded and looks back at them.
"(Exhales deeply) so can we now have a seat please, Mr. Murphy?" Trishka asked.
"Ok, you may proceed. And oh, umm… a… lend me your pen for a second please, Ms. Khan." he requested.
"Sure," Khan replied and hand him out a pen.
"Good morning, class. Now let's have a roll call." Mr. Murphy began.
The class started to commence and carry on with the discussion about art and literature. Hours passed, and the bell rang throughout the campus. Mr. Murphy ended his class and everyone started to pack their stuffs to proceed to the next subject. But before they could even get out, Mr. Murphy reminded them of their pending research papers, which will be complied before the school year end.
"Uhh…" Everyone let out a disappointing sigh.
"No, don't 'uhh' me rascals. I've given you enough time and your passing after finals. And that is final." Mr. Murphy ended and everyone went out of the room.
"Ugh, theses are really pain in the ass. Well, how about you Dwaine? How's your progress?" Trish inquired Dwaine's development.
"I'm working on it."
"Lucky you, you might be already half way through right?"
"Nope, I just started."
"What? Are you serious?"
"Uh-huh…"
"So, all this time where on the same boat huh?"
"You think we're gonna fail?" Dwaine asked Trishka.
"Of course not dummy! We still got a lot of time." Trishka encouraged her.
"Is there?" Dwaine doubted.
"(Scoffs) Oh, come on Dwaine. Where's the spirit?"
"I lost my spirit after you bang my head on the door Trish."
"Oops sorry, my bad… come on, we're getting late for the next period."
The girls rushed to the next room and after a couple more of hours; finally the bell rang for the lunch break hours. Together Trishka and Dwainecell entered the cafeteria to take their meal. The cafeteria was filled with students and most of which were their classmates and batch mates.
All eyes and gossips were centered on them and Dwaine doesn't seem to care anymore. But Trishka was still agitated by the prejudices they were treating them. They tried to ignore this and passed through the center aisle that directly leads to the food counter without bumping into the bullies. But unexpectedly, a loud insult yelled at them.
"Hey! Dwainey crazy! How's the b*tch life, freak! Whoo! Bam! Ha-ha-ha! O-wah! O-wah!" a man in varsity called out to her as he made an embarrassing twerk to everybody.
--Everyone laughed--
Dwaine discounted this, but…
"Hey freak! Can't you hear me?! I said you're crazy, B*tch!" he shouted back and sent out a fuck sign.
"Whoah, that's enough man." One of his friends stopped him.
"Hey! Don't tell me you're f*cking with her shit ass, pussy…" he angrily cussed at him and would almost start a fight.
"Woah, woah! Hold your horses, people. Where're still on campus grounds, dumb heads!" Their team leader silenced them.
"F*ck!" Robert continued.
"Come on, boys. Let's go."
The varsity team went out and left an aggressive intent on Dwaine. The bullies finally withdraw but the pretty girls are still on the run.
"Hey, Dwainecell, how's your diagnosis, freak?" one of the pretty girls asked her.
"Yeah, you still seeing rabbits and smiling cats, do you? Uhh… poor kid, she must have missed her mommy…" another girl mocked her.
"Pfft… (Giggles)That's a good one Violet." Her peer supported her and together they laughed.
Dwaine paused and said, "You know what, I have a little secret to tell you princesses."
"What?" Violet braved up.
Dwaine went closer and whispered, "Well you see, I can see ghost too your highnesses. Wanna know what's behind you?" she threatened them.
"Wh-what?" one of the girls stuttered.
"Come closer." Dwaine invited them and the pretty girls lured in, but suddenly, "BOO!"
"AH! AH! AH!" Violet's peers squealed and got embarrassed in the crowd.
--Everyone Laughs—
"You'll pay for this, freak!" Violet cursed her.
"Sure, I'll look forward to it, Violet."
"Urgh!!!" Violet hissed at her and tried to pull her peers away from the crowd.
"A-a-are there still ghost behind me?" one of her peer still asked Dwaine.
"Yah, over there," Dwaine joked at her.
"AH! AH! AH!" they screamed again.
--Everyone Laughed Again--
Finally the bullies where gone and thankfully they had their lunch. They took their food on the counter and settled down on one of the vacant seats.
"Damn! Why are they always like this, Dwaine?" Trishka began to complain.
"Talk about life, Trish? It's a trash."
"F*ck those d*ck heads! Why shouldn't they pick someone their own size?"
Not long and the afternoon classes began. They finished their lunch and proceeded to the classroom. Hours later and finally the class is over.
"Hey, Dwaine! Wanna hang out for today?" Trish asked her.
"Sorry Trish, I have a night shift today buddy, maybe next time?"
"(Sighs) alright then, we should do it next time but that's a promise, ok?"
"Sure, you can count on it."
"Hey, how about if I drop you there, buddy?" Trishka offered her a ride.
"No thanks, I'll pass by the back gate Trish. It's way faster there." Dwaine explained and bid her farewell.
Dwainecell rushed to her shift and went pass to the back gate. But little did she know the varsity team is already waiting for her there. The men were blocking the gate and they've brought a bat with them. Dwaine saw this intent and tried to run away. However, the guys caught her and she was dragged back to the back gate.
"(Laughs) Time for revenge, b*tch freak!" Robert angrily cussed at her. "Now hold her tight, boys!"
Robert commanded his comrades and they nailed Dwaine on the fence. Dwaine was struggling but the men are really tight at their grasped.
F*CK! YOU GOT TO BE SHITTING ME! (She thought)
Robert readies his bat and swung a hard blow at Dwaine's abdomen. She coughed and crouched down in pain. Unable to move, the men released her. Robert was about to land another blow again when unexpectedly their team leader stopped him and pulled him away.
"Sh*t man! I wasn't done yet, Oliver!" Robert complained.
"You already had your turn, Robert. Now it's mine." Oliver went out a serious face at him and this silenced Robert.
While Dwaine was crouching down on the ground, the team leader walks close to her and raised her chin. To their surprise, suddenly Oliver smells her face and tried to kiss her. But Dwaine snapped, and let out a powerful punch right at his face. Oliver stumbled back and the rest of the group helped him immediately.
"(Groans) f*ck that b*tch! She broke my nose!" he tries to say as he whines in pain.
When they looked back, Dwaine already left the premises. To Oliver's anguish he yelled a loud and demanded his troops to attack her.
"Go get her!" he shouted.
One by one, they attacked her but Dwaine always seem to win in every spar. She blows lethal punches, lands critical kicks, and slaps them aggressively for pay back. Yet they still didn't give up. Suddenly, a prolonged whistle caught their attention. And ahead they saw the guard gate of their school running towards them. Dwainecell took this opportunity and ran as fast as she could. She climbed the tall gate and easily she passed it. But the bullies managed to tail behind her, they caught up, and one more step she'll be dead.
"Got you!"
