Chapter 4 - Three: Rabbit On the Loose

FLASH NEWS

JUST IN, ANOTHER JUVENILE HEIST WAS CAUGHT IN ACT IN NEW YORK CITY. A YOUNG WOMAN CONSIGNED ON A NIGHT SHIFT ATTEMPTED TO STEAL AN ANCIENT ARTIFACT IN WACKEN'S COLLECTION MUSEUM AT AROUND 8:00 PM. SHE SINGLE-HANDEDLY BEATEN ALL THE FIFTY GUARDS ON DUTY AND STILL CURRENTLY UNCONSCIOUS IN MONROE HOSPITAL, NEW YORK CITY. RECENTLY, SHE WAS BEING DRAGGED OUT BY THE LOCAL AUTHORITIES THROUGH THE FRONT DOOR AND APPARENTLY SHE WAS TESTIFYING AGAINST IT.

"No officer, please… it's not what you think! I didn't do it! It's not me!" Dwaine desperately pleaded as she was helplessly hauled into the patrol car.

She continued to insist that she was innocent, yet the Police just ignored her. And on their way to the car, a mass of reporters flocked into their path barricading their escape. There was a stampede and everyone is not letting go of the case unfolded. So, they crowded into Dwaine and bombarded her with multiple camera shots and interviews.

"Why did you steal the artifact?- Is there a particular reason why you stole it?- How much does it cost?- Why are you denying your crime?- Are you really on your own? Or are there other suspects who came with you?" the school of reporters asked successively as they extended their microphones.

"It's not me! I swear, I can explain!" Dwaine tried to confess.

"If it's not you, then who is it?" another reporter asked.

"It's- It's the Rabbit person!" Dwaine doubtedly replied.

"What? A rabbit?" everyone murmured in surprise.

"What do you mean by a rabbit person, kid?" then another reporter asked.

"I- I don't know. But he has this head of a rabbit and he can talk too!" Dwaine explained.

"Are you sure about this?"

"I know it sounds ridiculous, but you have to believe me!"

"Now, make way people!" the officer demanded and the reporters gave path.

"I swear! I saw his face! You have to believe me! He was a Rabbit!" Dwaine shouted as she was pulled to the car.

"Come on, kid. Get in the car." The police pressed her and dragged her into the vehicle.

"No! Please! You have to believe me, officer! Please! It was the Rabbit. You must find him before it's too late!" Dwaine continued and the police slammed the door.

SLAM!

'DAMN! JUST WHEN I WAS TELLING TRUTH THEY WON'T BELIEVE ME.' (Dwaine thought)

"Officer is there a logical explanation about the girl's testimony? And is the Rabbit Person really exist?" the reporters insisted.

"No, we are not giving our statement yet and we still don't have the evidences to prove that. So, for now she will be detained under our jurisdiction for investigation and interrogation purposes. And we will do that proper procedure in the station. So if you please excuse me and good evening, fellas." The officer bid his sentiments and left with his troops.

AND AS YOU HAVE HEARD, THE CASE IS STILL UNDER INVESTIGATION AND THE PERSON WITH THE RABBIT HEAD IS STILL UNIDENTIFIED. THERE WERE NO STATEMENT ABOUT THE ARTIFACT AND THIS IS KRISTINE, REPORTING.

Shortly after, Dwaine and the authorities have finally arrived in the station. Dwaine still paralyzed, was dragged together by the two police into the interrogation room. They put her on a chair, chained her hands on the cuff link table, and left her in the room.

In the room, the light was brightly lit, it was plain, and a crappy table and chairs were placed on the center. It has four walls and one wall was purposely embedded with an observatory window. Dwaine waits for the investigator and not long then he came in by the door. He brought stacks of records and throws it on the table. He seated and then began the interrogation.

"So, your Dwainecell Kingsleigh, right?" the man started.

"Yes." Dwaine replied.

"Turning nineteen?"

"Yes,"

"Complying senior high in York High?"

"Yes, I am."

"Your record says here that your parents were already deceased due to car accident. Then by the age of ten your relatives adopted you and brought you up in Iran. Then, five years later you went back to States to finish your education. But before even then, you are already diagnosed with a long family history of schizophrenia disorder (sigh)." The police briefly narrated her files.

"Yes, that is true officer. But, if you have questions about my sanity, I'll tell you, I have completely recovered from my condition. And you can ask my doctor."

"So, do you really believe that the culprit is the rabbit person and not you?"

"Yes, definitely,"

"You may not know, but maybe he's just wearing a mask kid. Have you checked?"

"Yes, I did. And it was no mask officer. His head is really like that of an actual rabbit in a man's body. And he even calls himself as a… a Bunnyterrian?"

"I'm sorry kid but I think you're delusional."

"No sir, you must believe me. I swear! You can even check the cctv recordings."

"We just retrieved the cctv recordings in the museum Ms. Kingsleigh. And it clearly shows that there is no other person in that room, except you. You were fighting on your own and your attacking yourself like a crack head. We didn't know how you manage to beat up the fifty guards on duty and we will know that today from you. Now, how did you beat them?"

"I didn't. It was the rabbit, officer. You have to believe me."

"Now, let me rephrase Ms. Kingsleigh… how did you beat the guards in the room?"

"I said I don't know, ok? I'm just an ordinary girl and I can never beat all of them on my own."

"Oh, but that's not impossible Miss Kingsleigh."

"What do you mean?"

"Oh, don't play coy with me war veteran private Kingsleigh. We know you are a little genius in the field of war kid, says so your file in Iran conflict four years ago. So now tell me what happened to your freaking mind why'd you beat them all up? Or else your crimes will stack up and you won't be able to finish your school." He threatens her.

"I know what I am only capable of, officer. And I would never beat the guards just because you thought I was crazy."

"Ok then, how about the artifact? For what reason did you steal it? Does that cost that much, kid?"

"I have absolutely nothing to do with it, officer. Please, you have to see the recordings again."

"Now, for the last time kid, why did you steal the Rock?"

"I told you I didn't. It was the Rabbit! He stole using a technological device that teleport thing and then steals it."

"And you still insist on that imagination (sighs). I'm sorry but your crimes will not be cleansed Ms. Kingsleigh. See you tomorrow again." The investigator left and closed the door.

"Wait! You have to believe me! It was the Rabbit, officer! And he tried to steal the Rock! I didn't even know how much it cost! Please, you have to see the video again! Please, officers. Please!"

SLAM!

"AHH!!!" Dwaine shouted her frustration.

"So what do you think doctor?" the man behind the observatory wall asked.

"My assessment appears to be positive, officer. And I believe she must have experienced another traumatic attack these days explaining why she shows hysterical behavior lately. And I advice, you should treat her in the hospital. I'm sorry officer but she's not qualified to be detained in prison for she has a natural disorder. I know you know the law, Inspector."

"I understand Doctor. Thank you."

The doctor left and the officers were in great confusion about what to do about her. And recently, the media is pressuring them to release a statement sooner. But unluckily, this case is much complicated than expected. So instead they've decide to send her off into the asylum to treat her sanity. And that in turn also, they may be able to get a sane explanation after that. Hence, immediately they took her from the room and hauled her back to the car.

"Wait, where are you taking me?" Dwaine asked anxiously.

"We're taking you to the hospital kid. Now take her." The officer ordered his men.

"Which hospital?"

"The asylum."

"What!?! You don't understand! I have fully recovered! You have to trust me! I am in my mind. No! Please, you must listen! Dwaine wildly protested.

"Sorry, crack head. But you got to sleep."

"What?"

And suddenly they injected Dwaine with a tranquilizer drug to pacify her. Gradually, her strength fades, her muscles relaxed, and her vision became blurry. Her body gave up resisting and easily they transported her to the car. They drove straight to the city asylum center and not long then they've reached the clear high way. Suddenly, a loud thud bumped at the back of their vehicle.

--Thud--

"Hey, what the- wait, do you know those guys?" the driver asked his companion.

"Don't know, but I think that's trouble." His colleague replied.

"Hell, yeah it is." He agreed and hit the gas even faster.

Behind them is a silver van tailing next to their back. And Dwaine on the backseat is still hoping to get loose while she fights her deterioration. Then another bump crashed in and for the second time, the police were provoked. They tried to increase their speed even more, however; another van suddenly appeared in the front and blocked their way.

Struggling, eventually the pursuing van at the back shot a cable directly at their bumper. Automatically it grows a hook and immediately the van hits the break to lessen the speed. Afterwards, the front van also made its move and released a bullet of gas bombs into the police car. The gas shells penetrated and sent off an ample amount of sedative gas right away that it scattered and the police fell unconscious.

The police vehicle stopped and the silver van let go of their hook. Dwaine noticed this and as soon the car stopped, she immediately forced herself to get up and kicked the window with her remaining might. The window crashed but unluckily that was the only strength left. She fall back to the seat and shortly a couple of men in silver went to the car and opens it.

"Ms. Kingsleigh, you're coming with us." The man announced and instantly Dwaine's eyes went shut.

The men took her and left the crime scene clean.

Next Day

"Hey, wake up sleepy head." The woman in silver corporate attire wakes Dwaine up.

"(Grunts) where am I?" Dwaine replied.

"Mm, good question. Why not take a guess." The woman responded as she sips her coffee.

Dwaine adjusted her vision and looks at her surroundings. It was all white and she was lying on a stretcher.

"Am I… in the asylum?" she asked.

"Enk! Wrong. You're in the interrogation chamber, honey."

"Pff, now great another session of mental torture,"

"So, you saw the rabbit man, right?"

"Yes. How many times do I have to say that?"

"I'm sorry honey but we're no longer the police."

"What!? Then who are you?"

"Does he calls himself a Bunnyterrian?" the woman continued.

"Yes. But, how did you know about this? Who are you people?" Dwaine insisted.

"Mr. Andres, she's in." she calls to her micro earpiece while ignoring Dwaine's question.

Suddenly the door opens then automatically closed. There were three men came in, all wearing the same silver uniforms and silver eyeglasses. Except on the center where one clearly seems to be different than the rest of them. His body were broad, well-built, and he has multiple of badges displayed on his chest.

"Ms. Kingsleigh, I am Mr. Andres Connor the boss of this institution and welcome to the P.I.D. organization, the Protector of the Intergalactic Defense." The man with the flashy display of medals greeted her.

"No offense but, 'Intergalactic Defense'? (Scoffs) are you like…? Men in Black..?"

"Good simile, but no. Now, Ms. Kingsleigh you must be wondering why until then you're here, right?"

"Absolutely."

"Now, let me perfectly brief this to you, ok? Because the truth is, we will need you in this expedition. Three days ago there was a comet that crashed near Mt. Fuji, Japan. And that meteor came in the shape of a weird cat that erected at the sacred temple of the Shinto Priestesses."

"A what?"

"A cat meteor, Ms. Kingsleigh or so that's what we thought. But later we found out that it was not just an ordinary meteor but a spaceship of an organism we cannot yet fathom. And it calls himself a Catnimph."

"Catnip?" Dwaine wrongly reiterated.

"No, Catnimphs. So as I was saying, this Catnimph warned us about the potential intergalactic attack breaking out in the galaxy. And the alien that you saw in the museum last night was true. And as you already know they are the Bunnyterrians. They stole particular artifacts and mold it into a weapon. Thus, we need you in this and you're going to catch that Rabbit."

"And what does it have to do with me?"

"Well, you had the physical contact with him Ms. Kingsleigh and that encounter will connect you to that Rabbit. I'm sorry but that's how the tracking mission works in here Ms. Kingsleigh."

"You know I'm just a teenager, right?"

"Yes, but you're also a war veteran right?"

"And you really think I'm gonna agree to this?"

"Oh, you doubt? Then how about a deal. If you do this job we will clear all of your bad records in exchange for your service Miss Kingsleigh. The organization guarantees it and believe me you will have your normal life back after this. But if not, you will be delivered back to the police and be put to the mental asylum where you belong?" Mr. Connor told her sternly.

"(Gulps) (Exhales sharply) Ok, deal," Dwaine finally agreed.

"Good choice. Now, this way Ms. Kingsleigh. I will show you to the Catnimph that I told you about."

Mr. Connor led her out from the interrogation lab and went out into a narrow hall which leads to the next room. Shortly they've reached the door and the boss opens it with his verification ID. Automatically, the door opened and there revealed the majestic Catnimph.

"A playground?"
