Dr Ashton's body was deposited in the morgue and his family informed. Jeremy and his mum tried their best to comfort the Shields for their loss. Jeremy couldn't stop himself from feeling partially responsible for Dr Ashton's death,if only he hadn't involved him in his warped up life then he was sure the man would still be alive and well.
The police went on with the investigation, they sealed off his house and tried to look for every clue that could lead to them founding out the culprit behind Dr Ashton's murder and the motive but the perpetrator was so clever that not a single clue was left behind. The investigation pushed on with no luck.
Dr Ashton's funeral was conducted shortly after he was found dead in a body bag in his home. After the investigation, Jeremy stayed back after the funeral,he walked to the grave and dropped some flowers.
"Hi Dr Ashton, it's Jeremy." He began trying his best to hold back his tears. "You remember the last time we trained, right? You yelled at me for levitating some old pictures I found, well I'd really appreciate it if you yelled at me right now." Jeremy said and a tear fell down his cheek followed by a raucous thunderbolt.
The weather seemed to mirror his feelings of grief as the wind blew relentlessly, carrying light things in it's strong caress. His hair blew all over his face while he allowed his tears to flow freely.
"I know it's my fault, I'm responsible for your death. I never should have let you into my messed up life, you try to help and I caused your death. I'm so sorry." Jeremy cried uncontrollably and just then, the heavens realized the bouts of water it had been holding.
The rain fell heavily in torrents, accompanied by cowering thunderbolts and lightening flashes. Any sane person would find shelter from this terrible weather, it seemed like the heavens were in turmoil but Jeremy stayed put, only crying, his vision blurred by the torrential downpour.
"I deserve this." He said in a whisper. "I deserve all of this. I'm weak,I couldn't protect one of the people closest to me and I aspire to become a superhero. I'm a failure." He told himself and continued crying and just like a flash of light, he remembered Dr Ashton's words.
'Never give up without a fight, the world would be a much better place if we didn't have so many quitters. When you see something that's wrong, fight to make it right,no matter how hard it may seem.' those were Dr Ashton's words and the remembrance of those words gave him strength, like a dose of liquid courage injected into his system.
"I promise you here and now Dr Ashton that I'll try my best to become the best superhero Providence has ever seen. I promise you that since I wasn't there to save you,I'll surely be there to save other people. I only need some guidance, a beacon of light, a teacher." Jeremy said as he continued to stare at the grave, trying to see properly through the rain.
"Your beacon of light has arrived." A voice said, startling the young boy. He turned back, standing up and squinted his eyes to try to make out the person who had just spoken to him.
Standing in the distance, not too far from him was a woman, five feet tall and blue in complexion with fiery red hair and purple cat like eyes. He would have been scared out of his wits if he wasn't so shaken right now.
"Who the hell are you?" He tried to tread cautiously. "Please do not be afraid for I do not wish to hurt you. My name is Kessina from the planet Xanton. I'm here to help you achieve your goal." The alien like woman explained and Jeremy cocked his head in confusion.
"How do I know if I can trust you? For all I know, you might be some government agent in disguise or even the one who killed Dr Ashton. Plus, there are only nine planets in the solar system and as far as I know,Xanton isn't one of them." He said, preparing himself for an attack.
"That has always been the problem of humans, they act very unintelligent and only see what they want to see. Xanton is a hidden planet five thousand light years from the milky way. Our leader chose to camouflage our planet once we discovered the nature of you humans. Your race love to exploit anything they discover and we could not let that happen to our planet. It would cause war between the planets and because your kind are not extraterrestrial and cannot survive in space without your special suit,it would be much too easy to eliminate you all especially if we decide to use our advanced technological system. For that reason, the planet Xanton remains hidden from the humans." The alien woman explained.
"Science doesn't support anything you're saying." Jeremy pressed on,not sure what he was getting himself into.
"Can your earth science explain the powers you currently possess?" Kessina asked and Jeremy saw some truth in what she said but still grew alarmed.
"How do you know about my powers?" Jeremy questioned.
"I am not a fan of bad weather, so I suggest we find some shade so that I can explain everything to you perfectly." Kessina suggested and Jeremy took one last good look at Dr Ashton's grave before standing up.
He was ready to take the chance if it meant more people wouldn't end up like Dr Ashton and he would make his former mentor proud.
"Let's go." He said and followed the blue, alien looking woman.
