Dan recovered from his nightmare, by trotting around the narrow valley. Well, actually, Dan later found out it wasn't even a valley - sort of. It was actually a fault, where a river seemed to flow because Dan found some shingle on the surface of the fault, as well as some minerals, such as Aluminium, which could be found in some rivers.
After having their morning fill, they planned to set their permanent base - the fort of Capricorn and the deserted runway. Sculp examined the fort that morning. He said the fort needs some renovation. They need wood, first of all - lots of wood. Dan took the task. All the luggage from the cart was loaded down and taken into the fort. Sculp and Fayette were carrying the goods while Camb would clean the fort.
Dan drove the carriage to the woods nearby the village. There were many trees, and dan felt some difficulty in choosing them. There were birch trees, spruce trees, and oak trees. He chose oak trees, which are strong and long-lasting. With his magic, he made a magical saw, with which he cut the trees. In addition to cutting one tree, he will plant 5 saplings.
For their requirements, Dan needed three oaks. He thought of getting wood from other trees as well, so he decided to cut one spruce tree and a birch tree. After collecting all the wood logs, he loaded them into the carriage. It was about the afternoon, and an was hungry. Fortunately, Dan brought some bacon with him which he had already cooked and stored in covers a week back. He ate them, fulfilling his hunger.
Meanwhile, at the fort, Camb was busy clearing decayed droppings of food, twigs, feathers, and much more trash. Sculp and Fayette took some nerve to transfer all the goods into the castle. Dan was consistently bringing wood from the forest and dumping them down.
It was afternoon now. They had got plenty of wood as well as some stone (which Fayette got from five magical miners). Camb had almost cleaned the fort. Sculp and Fayette had also shifted most of the goods into the fort. After their lunch, Dan would clean the walls of the fort and embed small stone slabs with concrete and apply another layer of concrete over it. This technique, which was the one the Romans used back on Earth, was very different from the traditional brick-and-plaster technique used in most of the buildings of Fantalasia.
Of course, this task was not a piece of cake for Dan. He needs many workers - up to a hundred and a half. They could've made magical workers, but it's very tough. Fayette was tired to death of just creating five workers! So, their only option was the village...
Their new task was to convince the town of Capricorn for helping them. They kept a short meeting to decide on the matters. Dan got a very brilliant idea:
"We have powerful enemies. We have to defeat them. We could not do this alone. Let's create a community - a community based on our region. We will gather everything - resources, supplies and more support."
Everyone was interested in his plan.
"Let's gain control of the town. We will convince the mayor to give us labour, and in return, we would safeguard them from their enemies. We will conquer more lands of Bajista and Cabro. When our community grows, it becomes a..."
"Becomes what?" Everyone asked.
"A CITY-STATE. The city-state will be named Capricornia, and the village, along with the fort, the airport, and the valley will be called...CARDINIA."
"Well, the idea's good, Dan," says Fayette. "Come on everyone, let's got to the village."
They ate their lunch and went to the village. The village, as they would see every time, was always busy. They found the mayor's house with the help of a few villages nearby. The houses were of vintage style. They looked pretty. So did the mayor's house, which was simple yet fantastic. The mayor's secretary came in to take them to the mayor. However, the secretary declared that dogs are not allowed in any meetings, so Camg has to stay with the security talk.
The meeting went on for two hours. Dan narrated his entire story to the mayor - from his arrival in Fantalasia till the discovery of the fort. The mayor was somehow okay with the plan, but he wasn't very well satisfied with the reward the workers would get after the renovation of the fort.
Dan thought for a few minutes, having silent conversations with Sculp and Fayette while the mayor waited for his response. At last, Dan decided that not only the workers, but the whole town will get the most important resource in Fantalasia. It's wartime now, and iron's in a demand. Dan promised the village to give them enough iron the next day, as well as protection from the enemies.
Having half of their work finished, it's now time to get iron. Of course, a single person cannot do this. Dan, Fayette and Sculp joined hands, in a circular formation. They chanted magical omens for about half an hour. Camb watched those three from a safe distance. They then left their hands and chanted more. They propelled in the air. Camb saw them from the ground, in amazement. Then they opened their arms wide. A red ball of light formed between them. The dwellers of Capricorn gazed at the red ball of light. It then suddenly burst with a loud bang, leaving a magical vibration hitting areas far away. Now, many iron nuggets gathered around them, forming a ring. They then fell down to the ground. The three too came down moments later. They were awfully tired, except for Sculp, who wasn't that much tired.
Dan and Fayette could not get up from bed for about five hours. Dan was anyways happy, feeling that his task had finished.
