It's Day Two, and the advent of a new month as well. It's February 1st. There was still not a single sign of spring. Yet nature seemed to be upbeat all the time. The adventurers are already up before dawn. Dan finds out that they are in a spruce taiga biome. He also decided they should explore the area around them to discover anything and lead their way to the savannah. Dan and Fayette remove the tent and extinguish the campfire. After having their breakfast, which was cup noodles, the three set off in the Northeast, which was the direction leading the savannah.
It was afternoon. They would have walked for about four hours without changing their course direction. Nothing seemed to be remarkable. They experienced only the sightings of foxes, badgers and a few hawks - nothing more than that.
They rested below a big spruce tree to have their lunch, which was cup noodles again. Camb got the same dog food, but Dan added a few herbs to it, for the sake of freshness.
Dan and Fayette were extremely hungry. They did not care about anything that happened around them. Camb was aware, though. He found something sketchy in the distance while they both were eating. He had found a cave. It looked pretty small - it was just an opening into the earth. But Camb felt for some reason that they should explore it.
Camb barked at it quite loudly. Dan and Fayette looked at him and immediately found what he was trying to say.
The three packed up everything and moved to the cave. It was a slope leading to the underground of the earth.
"Maybe we explore it, Dan?" asked Fayette.
Dan replied by nodding his head. He then peeped inside the cave. They jumped into it. Dan went first to see how it looks, but as it was a slope, he slid down the slope. Camb and Fayette followed him. Camb easily walked the slope while Fayette flew to the bottom. Dan was clearing the dust off his arms while the two reached. They gazed at the wonder of the cave.
It wasn't as big as they thought. They found glowing crystals and gems of all colours, by which the cave was lit up. A stream of water flows across the cave forward. Fayette said that the crystals were called "Glow Crystals". Fayette also added that the crystals are an ingredient to create "Illuminin", a magical substance used to light up lamps such that the lamps will be lit for a month!
They continued to follow the stream until the stream ends. Just then, Dan exclaims that he had forgotten to bring Hadrian and Marcus into the cave.
"'ll just go and bring them, You can just explore around until I come," said Dan.
And he rushed to the outside of the cave, somehow climbing the slope that leads to the hole. He found Hadrian and Marcus grazing around in the distance. But he thought that he had just come in time, as a bear was running towards the horses.
"Hadrian! Marcus! Look at me, boys! It's me. Run to me!"
Hadrian and Marcus responded to Dan by watching him but did not move they continued grazing. Dan sprinted forward to save them with full energy, and so did the bear. The bear ran like a roadrunner and was about to prowl over the horses. Dan yelled at them "NOOO! My d-dears!"
And now, here's the twist.
The bear did jump over them but did not take any notice of the horses. It ran forward into the bushes and escaped into the forest. While Dan gazed in the direction the bear rushed to, he heard a loud, bang sound. The horses were frightened and ran forward to their owner. Dan later figures out that the bear was trying to escape a boulder which was falling down a small, gentle slope.
Dan ignored it anyhow. He brought the horses into the cave, and fortunately, the horses fitted into the gap. The mission was successful.
"Fayette! I've brought the horses with me. Let's stay here for the night and leave this cave tomorrow into the savannah."
Fayette agreed. They set up a campfire near the cave walls and cooked marshmallows over it. It was a fine ending to the day.
