Chapter 7 - Life oath

"Everyone has concluded that we want to help the young lady to become stronger. We have been searching for ways to make the young prince healthy again."

Adela's eyes glinted in interest, her gaze allowing him to go on. The butler couldn't help but feel that he was in the presence of Titania herself, he felt small in comparison to the young child that was in front of him.

"We have known that the princess has successfully been able to make her third circle, and as such we believe that if we help you in the starting of your fourth circle your meeting with gods won't be such a burden."

"Why would I meet those selfish bastards again?"

The old butler flinched at her tone and her way of expressing her dislike towards the gods everyone serves. Her expressionless face and her eyes that screamed in anger and distrust made the feeling of fear he had long forgotten resurface again. How come such a child has such a strong bloodlust and hatred towards their gods?

"We believe that if you ask for the gods, the fairies, and the spirit's help the young master can recover miraculously. But for this, they will have to give you their blessing, yet you are still five years old, and receiving such heavy blessings at your age could cost your life. It doesn't matter how strong you are, but having a fourth circle will indeed help you to not die by them."

"How do I know that what you say is true and that you are not lying as everyone else did?"

The old ghost gulped in fear, he didn't know that ghosts could sweat.

"I do not dare to lie to you princess, but to show you my loyalty I will make a life oath to you."

Her brows lifted in interest at the sudden oath. Adela just had information about death oaths after all.

"Ah, a life oath is only applicable in ghosts. Death oaths are for the living but even after the living die their oaths will forever follow them. Life oath for a ghost means surrendering themselves towards a living person and serving them. If their master wants the ghost to 'die' again their soul will also get destructed with no chance of ever reincarnating again just like what will happen with a death oath."

"Why haven't you reincarnated then?"

"Ah, we simply like our new life here and we can also take care of the castle as we are. Everyone loves this castle and they respect and love the princess as well."

"Then, proceed with the life oath."

Eyes full of distrust and suppressed anger following his every step. The old ghost proceeds to move the countless tables out of the way to start making some magic circles as well as hanging various talismans written in a mix of forbidden and forgotten languages.

The sudden small altar of three faceless gods made an unpleased sound scaped past Adela's lips, the old ghost couldn't help but wince at the sound but he had no other choice than put the altar for the life oath to work.

He had no idea what made their young lady have such a hateful feeling towards their gods. She used to pray for them every night but after she came back from death she also became someone who hates the idea of praying to such gods.

'She is just like Dame Titania!' such thoughts became so occurrent in the time he got to get to talk to Adela's face to face.

"Are you done?" her cold voice called for him from her seat.

"Just a few more talismans so the whole room doesn't get destroyed in the process, princess."

Just like death oaths, life oaths needed to be made in a safe place like the temple the dukedom had and called 'grand salon'. This is simply because you will be putting your life and soul in front of the gods and said gods will always make themselves be present out in amusing for this.

As such, if you perform either the life or death oath incorrectly you can make the gods angry at your incompetence and disrespectfulness at such a sacred oath. Also, that and you make them waste their time.

When the old butler had everything ready and he asked Adela, respectfully, to please step into the magic circle that was in front of the much larger circle. Said larger circle was where the old butler stood, and it was in front of the altar of the three faceless gods.

"I, Rafael, the first butler of the house Titania Oberon. Make a life oath to Adela Valentia De Titania Oberon. I swear upon the gods to always say the truth, to always serve my new master, and to always respect her wishes no matter how ridiculous they are. I swear upon the gods of time, space, and power. Accept this old soul's oath and their new living master."

The small statues displayed in front of the altar of the three faceless had now a face, the statues started to laugh silently and blood came out of their eyes. Unlike the death oath, their involvement was smaller this time. Maybe it's because this oath is much secret than the other one since this one has to deal with people no longer alive.

"The oaths I had once made in my living time are no longer of importance to me and my soul, now I shall follow the life oath till the day my master's life comes to its end."

As such, the Life oath came to its conclusion and Adela had no other choice than to accept.

A magic circle was now on the butler's chest, just as it appeared before them it disappeared as well.

Adela seemed uninterested in getting a faithful servant, she had no time to put her mind into such ridiculous oaths. After all, all she could think about was her little brother and the small amount of time he has left.
