Chapter 8 - No time to waste

"How much time does my little brother has, Rafael?"

Adela couldn't know the old ghost's name before, but now that said ghost had made a life oath to her she could. Rafael who couldn't help but be a little bit afraid for his soul, he gulped loudly.

"We have been watching him since he was born and just like for you we have been taking care of him. We had planted various moon grass and made a lot of talisman inside and outside the tower invisible to the living human eye to help him recover and extend his life, but we are nothing more than the dead wishing for the living."

Adela watched him processing his words, her anger had calmed down a bit at the thought of such old ghosts who did not have the duty to do such things for the living taking care of her little brother.

She had watched the tower, covered in countless moon grass. She had first thought that it was the people in the castle who planted them, but she couldn't help but be surprised that the people who planted such delicate and hard to plant grass were the ghosts in the castle. Maybe the beautiful garden that could be seen from her window was also planted by them.

"Moon grass cannot be planted by the living, princess."

As if Rafael has read her thoughts, Adela had no choice but to accept such a fact.

"Princess, the young prince has no longer than six months left to live."

A silent scream escaped her lips. Rafael couldn't help but see her cry softly at the thought of not being able to be besides her brother all the time he was alive.

"Princess, even though the young prince was alive he was always in a coma state. All of the ghosts will always take turns to take care of him as well of the servants in the castle."

"That's good, I am sure the pain my little brother is going through is unimaginable."

Rafael saw this young child speak and act like someone who has lived through many stuff, yet the way she cared about her people was so pure.

'If the gods ask her to give her life for her brother she will surely do so… no! I can't let such things happen. I am sure that the gods will fool her into giving her life to them for her brother's!"

The sudden thought that went through his mind scared him. The gods were benevolent but also ruthless, as such every living being on earth had to serve them. The gods were also very jealous, if anyone started to worship anything else that wasn't them, they would wipe them and their country from this world.

Rafael had to do a lot in these six months, he will have no other choice but to ask for help from other ghosts.

It would be hard, ghosts never liked to appear in front of the living, but he had the hope that if it was for the young prince and princess they will whole heartily agree.

"Young lady, no, princess. Please listen to this old butler. The gods may be benevolent but they are also ruthless and they are known to deceive some of their followers for fun."

"I know that. That's why I hate them."

"P-princess! Please don't say that!"

As if lighting will strike them for her words, Rafael started to look up repeatedly.

"What? Fuck those selfish bitches."

Rafael's transparent face became even more transparent and paler than before. Adela giggled in amusement at the faces Rafael will make and the countless times he will look up to the sky.

"I-if I had a heart it would already be in my hand from such words!"

"The fuck they going to do? Kill me again? I wish I could punch them."

"P-princess please…!"

Adela laughed out loud, after countless pleas she decided to stop bullying him.

'She is just like her! A bully like Dame Titania!' Rafael cried silently at such thoughts, he couldn't help but cry softly since Adela is now her master.

"Princess, we have no idea what the gods will ask you in return for their blessings," Rafael said, his expression turning serious.

"They already told me they will give me more when I turn six, but I guess we have no time for when I reach six."

"Indeed, because of this, you have to be able to reach your fourth circle in this amount of time so you can withstand such blessings at your age. We will have to start by teaching you the story of this world."

"Huh? Why do I need to know such a thing?" Adela couldn't help but be surprised, when she trained with Navi she never had to learn about the story of this world other than magic.

"It is not for you to learn, but for your body, soul, and heart to understand the origins of everything. I have no idea how you were able to make three perfect magic circles. No, the magic circles you had created are by far the most perfect I have seen."

'Not even Dame Titania's circle were this perfect…' Rafael thought to himself. Adela had way more potential than Titania and he was sure she will be someone way greater than Titania once was. All the ghosts knew about this, and they were both proud of their young princess but also worried about the obsession the imperial family had over her blood will be greater because of this.

"So, for me to be able to start creating I will have to learn about the history of this world?"

"That's correct princess."

'So, the only reason I was able to get this far was because of Navi's help. Now she won't even answer when I call her… so there is no way to speed things up. Are the gods perhaps getting between my connection with her so we do not speak?' The only thought of the gods going as far as severing her connection with Navi just so she had to see them again infuriated her. She couldn't help but think if they will even give her back her soul by the way they kept acting.
