Chapter 40 - Forty

SIGH, OF COURSE, SHE DOESN'T. "LADY MARIE, IF I HAD used my powers to get hid of my family, everyone would hear about me. I would become a criminal in the north, and the fact that I have shadow magic would make me become a target to everyone else. And not only the Dukes and Duchesses, or the Royal family of the Kingdom, but also to the enemies outside of our borders. I would get rid of my family, but my life would erupt in chaos and I would be on the run. It wasn't the smartest thing to do, so I chose to stay and get through it all until now."

She turned to the Prince and he nodded, agreeing with me, "She's right, sweetheart. Even though it was a painful and tough life, it was the smartest thing to do since she wanted to hide her magic." He turned to me, "So, you don't hate me, right?"

Even the devil giggle to that. "No, Your Highness. I do not hate you. Right now, I'm thankful that your family is allowing us to stay here, shielded from any problems my father could cause. But now, I don't hate you. And now that all the powerful houses in the Kingdom already know about my secret, I have no reason to stay in the shadow anymore. Especially now that I can't like quietly, and things will probably get dangerous since I'm with the north, as long as I'm engaged to my fiancée," I squeezed his hand and when I looked at him, he seemed thankful for me stating in what side I am.

"But you don't have anything against us in the south, besides your dad, right?" This time it was the Lady who expressed her doubt.

"Nope. None. I was never against the south to begin with, so don't worry. My aversion was more turned to the other regions because," to be precise, the territories of the main leads in the story. Luc, Alina, and Dylan. The others were just an excuse to justify my eversion towards these three specific regions, so it wouldn't raise doubt.

They both let out a loud sigh of relief, "We are on your side," the Prince stated. "Your enemies will be ours, and we'll stay on your side. We have no desire to have our shadows destroyed, our souls sucked out of our bodies, or to be turned into dust like that."

"None!" She exclaimed.

I laughed, "I'm sorry. I didn't intend to scare you. It's just that you asked to see it."

"What was that song you were humming, darling?" The devil asked closer to my face, as I could feel his breath near my skin. "The one you were humming while showing your magic to us. You seem in a hypotonic state or something."

"Oh, yes. I'm also curious. It sounded enchanting. Is it one of yours?" Lady Marie suddenly looked excited again.

Well, it's not mine, but it's not like the singer is from this world, so it doesn't matter. "Yes. One of mine. I call it Dandelions. Humming it helps me focus and control the shadow magic. If I don't do it, I gets kind of reckless and it spreads quite far around the place I'm in."

The Prince gasped in fear, "Does that mean that, if you hadn't hummed that song, we would have died in here?"

"Pretty much. Thankfully I have this song for it. In the beginning, I also had to hum one I like to call Wonder," by Shawn Mendes, "to control my telekinesis, as well as another called Who," by Lauv, "to control my thunder magic. But not anymore, since I have a better control on them. Well, that is, unless I need to use too much of it, then it's better if I hum the song while using it just for precaution."

"But if you sing these three songs, without intending to use your magic, do they have an affect on your body that make it erupt from you automatically?" The devil asked and I turned to him biting my lips.

"Yes."

"Better no sing them then," the Prince quickly retorted making me giggle again. He seems really scared by it, doesn't he?

His Lady ate three cookies in a roll, "It only works if you sing it, or does it comes out if someone else hum it?"

"Only me."

Prince Behnam widened his eyes, "And how do you know that?"

"It was a dangerous gamble, but I thought my nanny how to hum them, just to try it out. She did it perfectly, but it didn't work it, which was good. But don't worry, I tried first with the telekinesis, then the thunder magic, and lastly the shadow magic's song. At least now I'm sure it's safe."

"That was reckless, babe!"

His seriousness made me bit my bottom lip, "I know. But I had to try, and she was the only one who knew about my songs at the time. I took the risk. And if something had happened, I was prepared to tell her about it all. As it didn't, she still doesn't know."

"With all due respect, Lady Hope, but you are crazy!" She exclaimed and I grinned.

"Kind of. So, does this satisfy your doubts about my magic powers?" I blinked, waiting.

"No," they all said together.

I felt relieved, "Nice. Now, what do you want regarding my songs?"

She stopped the other cookie midway, "Oh, yes. I want to know what other songs do you have. And I wanted to ask you to sing the ones you sang in the ball, for my Prince to hear. Can you do that?"

Getting up, I used my telekinesis to move the piano closer to us, then I sat in front of it. "Of course, I can," I exclaimed smiling. "It won't be the same though, since I don't have the boys here to play the violin and the guitar while I play the piano."

"That's alright, it'll be amazing to hear it again."

A nod, "Before anything, I just want to say that there are some words in my lyrics that you won't understand because I created," it's the only excuse I can give for songs with words like airplane, train, phone, internet, and other shit from the earthly 21st century. "So, you should just try to feel the song and most on the lyrics, okay?"

"That's part of being creative, and that's alright. I hope you sing as well as my fiancée told me you did, Lady Hope. Because she didn't shut up about it, and kept humming some of the parts she remembered all the time," Prince Behnam said with his eyes on his fiancée who blushed.

"Well, I'll try my best," I giggled, amused. "So, I'll begin with the song I dedicated to my fiancée, Enchanted. Just as I did back in the ball," the I closed my eyes and let my fingers feel the tiles of the piano.

When I was done, the devil was by my side with a glass of water in hands, and right by my side, with a lovely smile on his kissable lips. "You did amazing, darling."

I winked, "Of course, I did." I whispered and drank the water, feeling refreshed. Then I turned to the couple who was looking at us, amazed. "What are your thoughts, Your Highness?"

"Angelic. Can you sing at our wedding?" What?

His sudden question made me gasp. "Excuse me?"

"Marie wants you to sing some songs on our wedding, which will happen in a month from now, and I want to make her wish come true. So, can you do it?" Is that one of the reasons they came here for?

I blinked, then turned to my devil and by his smile he looked… proud? "What do you think?"

"I think you are up to the task. Besides, it's the wedding of the next Duke and Duchess of the South. You will do amazing as usual, darling. And many important people will be able to hear your lovely voice in person at the wedding, which my spread your name further and more people will want to get your songs," he pushed me a little and sat on my side. "Do you like the idea?"

Honestly? Yes. It feels like a show, and it makes me feel like an actual artist. But I'm quite scared of meeting the other main Houses there, since the wedding of the Heir Apparent of a Dukedom is always a major event. "I do. But do you think I'm up to the task?"

A nod, "Of course, you are."

I felt my cheeks burn, and turned to the Prince and the Lady who were waiting for my answer, "Can I go with my fiancée?"

"Of course. Besides, he'll be there already. Father told me that one of the reasons he's here is because he's representing Duke Luc Von der Meer on our wedding, since it seems like the northern Duke won't be able to make it," what?
