Chapter 19 - CHAPTER 19

It had already been over 6 months since we were in Atlanta. Everything was going well, school, my job at the hospital and even home life etc...

Classes were going well, I was getting very good grades. Ryan, Daphne, Zoe, Bay, Olivia and I spent a lot of time together at a coffee shop that we really liked.

Olivia and I would call our parents constantly. We kept them up to date on everything and they did the same. Every once in a while we would also call Uncle George and the rest of our family, sometimes we would even talk on facetime.

At the hospital, Ryan and I worked together in radiography, sharing the same office. We were in charge of scans, ultrasounds, etc. and then we had to pass the results on to the doctors so that they could make the diagnosis.

One morning while Olivia and Aunt Cassie were out shopping Chen and I went for a jog, Cam, Riggie, M.C and I.

- So! (Said M.C.) Are we going to get some cream donuts before we go home?

- No, that's out of the question. (said Cam)

- Why? (I asked in surprise)

- Because we are jogging to eliminate calories... the cream donuts are full of them... So we can't buy... is that a good answer? (Answered Cam)

- Uh... No (I said to annoy him). What do you think, Riggie?

- I agree with him, there's no point in jogging if you have to stuff yourself with cream donuts afterwards.

- But... (started M.C)

- There's no 'but' about it. (cut him off)... We've slowed the pace down too much, let's focus please.

We all followed Riggie. After about thirty minutes, Ryan called to tell me that I was expected at the hospital because they were swamped. After a few minutes, Cam noticed that I had stopped a few feet behind them to make a phone call, so he turned around and approached me.

-Why did you stop? (he asked)

-I stopped to... uh... Mind your own business. (I answered him sarcastically and then I started jogging again)

-Bahhh... It's my business. (He said, following me)

-Um... What about?

-When you stop, you slow us down.

-Last time I checked, you didn't run with my legs... So you can be as fast as you want.

-Yes, that's true... but I have to keep up with you.

-No one is forcing you to do this Cam... You know that, right?

-Yes, I know that... but the way you're going, you could get lost... or even worse, you could fall into a ravine.

He barely had time to finish his sentence when he stepped in dog shit.

-Shit, that's disgusting. (He said in disgust)

-That's called karma. (I said, laughing)... You deserve it.

-And you find it funny? (He says annoyed)

-Yes, of course, don't you? (I said, continuing to laugh, and then, without paying attention, I stepped in a turd too)... Yuck!! it's atrocious.

-What did you say again? (Said Cam smiling)... Oh yes, I remember... Karma (he started to laugh) .... You were right, it's actually very funny.

-Yeah right, laugh it up. (I said annoyed) ... Anyway I have to go.

-Wait a minute, you're not finishing the jog with us?

-Unfortunately not, I have an emergency.

-An emergency? I see.... When it comes to Ryan, you run. (He said quietly, rolling his eyes and thinking I hadn't heard)

- And what is that supposed to mean? (I said intrigued)

-Oh no, not much, don't pay attention to it... I just didn't know that Ryan's needs had become an emergency for you. (He says embarrassed)

-What?... What the hell are you talking about?... Are you out of your mind?

-You don't have to pretend, I heard you tell him on the phone earlier that you'll be right over...

-Yes, it's true... . I don't know what you're thinking in your little head but you're all wrong .... Ryan called me, yes, but it's because they are overwhelmed at the hospital because of an accident and they need me.

- It's okay, you can go (he says with an embarrassed smile).... I'll tell Riggie and M-Chuck that you had an emergency at the hospital.

-Okay, I'll go. (I said before walking away)

Cam joined the others, and I went to the house first. I took a shower, changed my clothes, filled up my car and went directly to the hospital.

Once there, I could see for myself how overwhelmed we were. I had so much work to do that we couldn't even get a break for launch.

Around 3 o'clock in the afternoon, I received a phone call from M.C. :

- Hi M.C (I said), I can't really talk right now. I'm really busy here.

-Yes I know and I won't be long, I promise (she answered)

-Okay, what's up?

- Riggie's out with Missie, Mom and Olivia still aren't home and Cam is at practice... I wanna know what time you'll have your break so we can both go for coffee.... I am so bored at home.

-I'm really sorry M.C. but right now it's not going to be possible. We still have so much work to do here, we'll be here for hours and then I'm on call all night.

-Too bad, but it doesn't matter.... Let's do it another time then.

-Okay, no worries (I said before hanging up).

After that, I went back to work with Ryan and Daphne.
