"Too long. We can't wait any longer or the earth will be destroyed." A hissing voice that sounded like a pile of voices of all genders joining together. There could make a headache in the middle of his very serious tone.
"He is still not ready, because he is too young. The last attack nearly killed him." The answer was audible, reassuring, and very peaceful. Darkness incarnated, and that was all that could be seen.
"The earth will be destroyed then, it will be destroyed." The final warning finally firmly silenced everyone's voices.
…
Wendy completely disappeared, after three days Uncle Ted tried not to care. He thought that Wendy was still camping, though that was a little too long for a youth camp. Then he guessed that Wendy might be staying over at Catty's, so he left her indifferently.
However, when he found out that school schedules had dropped, and that Wendy should be home, on the fourth day Uncle Ted began to feel suspicious. He still tried to dial all the numbers Serry gave him, but there was still no answer to any of those numbers.
Daniel helped out, in the middle of piling up work to rewrite his journal. The result was the same, that was, there was no answer.
When he saw that Uncle Ted looked like he was about to explode, Daniel suggested, "I'm going to ask Serry for help, Uncle. If voice calling doesn't work then I'll go to her house. You better go to work, as usual, do not think too much about this. Leave some work for me, I will finish it."
No answer from Uncle Ted. His face was still sour and angry too. But Daniel knew that even if he didn't answer, it was a form of permission he had received. Uncle Ted didn't say much when he was angry, because if he did, his voice would be able to blow up the house. After all, it was so loud.
Now Daniel called Serry, and she immediately picked up the phone from him.
"Hello, Serry? You are there? I need your help and this is a very serious matter, or I will die." That's not an exaggeration. Judging by Uncle Ted's anger, it seemed like Daniel would have died if only Wendy didn't come back soon.
Serry, who had a deep voice and seemed to have just woken up, answered, "What's wrong, Dan? Wendy's problem again, huh? Isn't he home yet?"
"Yes, that's the reality. All the numbers you gave to Uncle Ted didn't work at all, neither of them wanted to answer. Maybe it's Wendy who asked them not to pick up the calls from me and Uncle Ted."
There was a very wide yawn from across. "If that's the case, then what's wrong? They must be having fun like most teenagers. You don't have to worry, Dan. "
"But it's already the fourth day, Serry. Wendy should have come home. Aren't teen camps usually done in one day?"
Serry suddenly burst out laughing until she coughed. "Catty is the rich kid, Dan. She could even throw a camp party in a whole week. Besides, they were camping in a safe area. The place belonged to the Catty family, so there wouldn't be any beasts or anything like that. I was the only one who couldn't join is very jealous, and wanted to catch up with them to join the camp. But I didn't get permission from my mother because at home there is still a lot of work to be done."
To be honest that was also the reason Daniel looked for Wendy so hard because he was too tired to finish the homework that should be Wendy's task. But on the other hand, there was worry too, considering how often Wendy was dragged into the monster assault case with Daniel.
The monsters disguised themselves as humans. If the campers found someone strange, they wouldn't notice it because in their eyes the strange person was a human. This worried Daniel even more.
"Okay, I understand. But at least can you help me? Can you call Wendy, Serr? Or call Catty and everyone else still at the camp party? I don't care who picks up. I just wanted to know if Wendy was still in the camp or not, because this worried Uncle Ted. Do you know that he's been taking care of us hard enough all this time?" A bad choice to pity and ask for mercy by using someone else as a shield.
But it worked quite well as Serry agreed to it, though a slightly reluctant voice sounded from her tone.
Soon the call was turned off, followed by Daniel doing all the homework assigned to him. Uncle Ted was out to go out into the fields. He's also going to be doing some odd jobs out there.
Honestly, Uncle Ted had a lot of qualified experts in various fields. He also had a lot of skill for tool making. But here not many people would buy their work because residents here tended to use makeshift tools.
Uncle Ted could sell it out of town if he wanted. But that intention still could not knock on the door of his heart, especially since he found out that his nephew had started to act out of bounds.
Remembering that Daniel felt guilty and didn't feel guilty at the same time.
…
The sun was up and Daniel had not heard from Serry. Daniel was tempted to call Serry and asked about her progress but he was too uneasy, so he tried to be patient until noon.
When Daniel had to feed the chickens for the second time, the sun was already at the top of his head. This meant it was midday, and there were still no calls from Serry or any messages with information from him. Daniel refrained from contacting her, so he kept himself busy with a lot of things into the afternoon.
The time was four in the afternoon. Usually, Uncle Ted would come home at five in the afternoon. That meant Daniel should have gotten just one piece of information from Serry about Wendy. Ignoring his bad feelings, Daniel immediately contacted Serry.
It took two calls until Serry finally answered. "Hello, Dan? What is wrong?"
What is wrong? What did Serry mean by 'what is wrong'? Did she forget the request Daniel told her about this morning?
"Eh, I want to ask about Wendy. So have you contacted your camping friends to ask where his position is?"
"Oh, yeah, I forgot. I asked Catty earlier. I wanted to tell you right away but I'm too busy with housework. Wendy is home. Catty said a neighbor offered her a ride. Wendy had said that herself, so Catty had no reason to drive her home. So what? Isn't he home yet?"
"Yeah," Daniel said in a complicated tone. "He still hasn't come home until now. What time did you get that information from Catty? "
"About an hour ago maybe, more or less. Just wait because the campsite is on another hill. At least it will take two hours or less to get home, it also depends on your neighbor's driving speed. "
Daniel wanted to ask who the neighbor brought Wendy, but he felt he had asked too far, so he chose to end the call and sincerely thank Serry. On the phone, Serry sounded very excited and brave.
Daniel tried to wait. But he failed to do that well. He chose to contact Wendy but the number was not active. Okay, Daniel was starting to get anxious.
Then Daniel called Catty, and she finally picked them up. He asked what kind of neighbor had picked up Wendy.
In a very exhausted voice, Catty said, "Old man, his body is a little bent and he is always smiling all day long. His hair was very gray and he was very friendly. He's a good guy. He had invited me to go to his farm. What is the name? Parkin Farm?"
Daniel hung up suddenly, and he started going to the garage to get on his bike at full speed.
