Mia didn't know what she was gonna do. She kept walking on the street as tears rolled down her cheeks. She was thinking about what her mother had said.
She had been walking for 4 hours now. She was very hungry and tired but she didn't know where she was and she didn't even have any money.
Her knees were very weak and she could fall down at any moment. It was very dark and there were barely any people on the streets.
As she was walking she bumped into someone and fell.
"I am so sor- Mia?"
She heard a familiar voice.
"Jake?" She asked as he helped her up.
"Are you okay? You look weak." He asked, concerned.
"I-i'm fine. Thanks." She replied, getting weaker than before.
Her head started spinning and her energy was completely drained. She grabbed onto Jake's arm for support.
After a few minutes, her legs finally gave up and she collapsed.
"Mia?!!" He said as he caught her before she could fall onto the cold ground. Without wasting another second, he pulled his phone out of his pocket and called for an ambulance. The ambulance arrived after a few minutes and Jake accompanied her to the hospital.
Fortunately, she had her family doctor checking her, so he knew about her situation. He checked her pulse and heart rate and breathed a sigh of relief. He went up to Jake to explain the situation.
"She is fine, she just fainted because she starved herself." He explained.
"When will she wake up?" Jake asked as he was worried about his friend.
"She should wake up in a few hours." The doctor replied. He patted Jake's shoulder, assuring him that his friend was okay.
The doctor told Jake that he could see Mia if he wants. Jake quickly went to the room where she was. As he entered he saw her sleeping peacefully. He went and sat on the chair beside the bed and waited for her to wake up. While waiting Jake fell asleep on the chair.
Some time later, Mia woke up and saw Jake, her crush, sleeping peacefully on the chair beside the bed. She sat up as slowly and as quietly as she could since she didn't want to wake him up. Unfortunately, in the process, Mia knocked over a vase kept near the bed, causing Jake to wake up.
She smiled at him as she saw him looking at her. After he woke up completely, he realized what Mia was doing and helped her. After she was sitting up, she remembered what had happened the previous day and her eyes filled with tears again.
"Thanks for helping me and staying with me." She said, trying hard to hold her tears.
"It's not a problem. How do you feel?" He asked as he poured her a glass of water.
"I'm fine. Thanks." She replied as she took a sip of the water. The two of them were talking when the door swung open.
"Mia!"
"Uncle?!!" Mia exclaimed as she saw her uncle, Michael. He came and hugged Mia.
"Are you okay? I heard what happened." He asked as he broke the hug. Mia nodded as a response.
Michael was Alan's brother. He was the only person in the family who had kept in touch with Alan after his marriage. Michael neither had kids nor was he married. Mia really liked Michael as he was a very nice person and the only family member who kept in touch with them.
"Who are you?" Michael asked turning towards Jake.
"I am Jake, Mia's classmate." He replied.
"He is the one who brought me to the hospital." Mia added.
"Oh thank you so much for your help." Michael said as he shook Jake's hand as a sign of thankfulness.
"It's no problem. Mia is my friend so I should help her." Jake replied with a smile.
