The interview ended not long after Ray had given Larissa his and Abel's contact information. She gave them a little bit more information about events leading up to Victoria's death that she thought was odd, but didn't have much else to say after this.
Abel was under the impression that there were still somethings on her mind that she wanted to voice, but didn't push her to speak since she still seemed quite nervous. Had it been a more forma questioning- he would've kept pushing her until he was certain that he got out all the information that she knew and could be important to help put the pieces of the case together.
On the way out of the room, he tried to get her to shake his hand again, but this time she glanced at him but refused to shake his hand again. This was a slight disappointment to him as Abel had hoped maybe shaking her hand again would bring about an event like what had happened before. He still didn't know what the trigger was, but he wanted to figure it out as soon as possible.
Ray was the one who walked her out since he noticed how Larissa still seemed to be uncomfortable around Abel. She couldn't blame him since he was the less cordial one between them.
"Remember, if there is anything else that you remember or something that's worrying you, don't hesitate to call either of these numbers and thank you again, your time today has been very helpful."
"I just want to whoever did this Victoria to be found and brought to justice. She may have had her issues towards the end, but she didn't deserve to die like this." Larissa replied. She thanked Ray before she left the building.
Once she gone and out of sight Ray sighed and ran a hand through his hair. This case was certainly turning into something more intense than he had been expecting. His partner was by no means making it easier either. He needed to ask what happened with Larissa and how he knew she knew something about whatever drugs Victoria was taking. He almost messed up their chance to question Larissa by blurting out what he said without thinking.
He wasn't going to get his chance to talk with the other right away because by the time he came back, Abel was already inquiring about where the list of items found at the crime scene had been stored. Of course it would be one of the first things that he would want to go over. Ray needed to get all the notes that he had taken written down so he decided to encourage Abel to come into his office with him so that they could work on two things at once.
Abel didn't seem thrilled about the idea of being in the office when he might need to go back and forth to ask about other information, but he didn't argue when he noticed by the look on Ray's face that it seemed there was something he must've wanted to talk with him about as well.
"What was that about you? You blurting that bit about the drugs at the front almost made her change her mind?" Ray asked in a hushed but slightly annoyed voice. He didn't want anyone else in the office to hear what happened, certainly not the chief who he was sure was looking for any type of mistake so that he would have a reason to correct them.
"I know, I'm sorry. I realized after I had said it out loud that it was a mistake to bring it up so suddenly. It just hit me when I saw how nervous her eyes were that she must've been hiding something bigger than what she was letting on." Abel apologized, hoping that the other would buy what he was saying.
"Was that really all it was? You had an odd look in your eyes as well when you started shaking her hand like something just dawned on you or you recognized her from somewhere else?" Ray crossed his arms over his chest as he spoke, waiting for his partner to provide him a better explanation to the events that occurred. Abel looked up from the list he was looking through to fix his partner with a steady gaze.
"I already told you what happened. Remember, I have been working in this field longer than you have. Some things just come to me more instinctively than they do for you at this point." He replied.
"Now either we can work on this in here together or if you're going to keep trying to interrogate me about this. I will find a different place to work so that I can actually get work done." silence engulfed the room after this, but it was laced with tension and neither seemed intent on breaking the gaze with each other. Abel was waiting for Ray to accept or protest what he said and the other was looking for a sign that would tell him what was really going on with the other.
When he didn't see anything that answered his question, Ray sighed as he turned away to go over to his desk. Taking he sit he motioned for the other to take the seat across from him.
"You can stay. I don't believe you, but I'm not going to push it because you obviously have no intention of telling me what's really going on right now." He told his partner as he began to organize the notes that he had taken so he could rewrite them on his computer.
"I can't change my answer when there's nothing else to say aside from what I told you. Once you've worked on more cases and gain more experience, you'll find out that your intuition will start to get sharper as well." Abel told the other as he pulled out the chair to sit down. Before he got that far however, there was a knock on the office door.
Abel didn't bother letting Ray told whoever it was that they were welcome to enter, he instead turned around and opened the door himself. It was one of the young officers standing on the other side holding a manila envelope.
"Here's the pictures you asked for. According to the photographers, it should be all of the ones that were taken from the crime scene." He explained as he held out the envelope for the other to take.
"Good. If there's anything else that's missing, let me know and send it this way promptly." He told the young officer before he closed the door and turned around.
"You know you really need to work on your manners in this type of field you know that. Please and thank you aren't that hard to say.".
"I don't find that there's a need to show gratitude to those who are doing their job and not going out of their way to do anything extra." Abel replied as he sat down.
"What are those anyways?" Ray asked as he leaned over the desk to see what the other was looking at.
"It's evidence that I am getting ready to review. Pictures from the crime scene. Perhaps there's something that we over looked when we were there because we didn't know what we should be looking for in the first place." He explained.
"Do you have a spare pair of nitrile gloves I can borrow?" He asked the other. He didn't want to smudge the photos by touching with his hands since this probably wouldn't be the last time he looked them over.
"Yeah. They're always in the top draw if you need them." Ray replied as he opened the draw up and pulled a pair out, handing them to the other who put them on carefully.
Before pulling the pictures out, Abel began to clear a space on the desk that he could place them. His partner watched quietly. He really wanted to say something about other's lack of understanding for space that didn't belong to them and what one should or not do and ask before touching stuff, but he was also learning that it would fall on deaf ears even if he did speak up so he just sat there and watched knowing he would have to reorganize everything later.
