Chapter 22 - Fear

Ace still didn't answer the question after Ray pressured him for a third time, it was almost as if the other was frozen out fear and not sure how to answer the question. Abel didn't have to waste however and decided that he would take matters in to his own hands if the other wasn't going to answer their question when they were being polite. Pros didn't think that it was right course of action to take, but the detective decided to ignore him.

"Fine since you don't seem intent on answering our question. We can just inside and wait here to find out who you're talking about since it sounds like they were planning on paying you a visit today anyways." Abel kept his tight grip on the back of the other's hood and arm as he pulled him away from the wall and turned him to face towards the entrance of the building. The other wasn't that strong so it wouldn't take much to use brute force to get him back inside the house.

"Wait! Wait! I'll tell you, just not here please. I can't have him seeing me with you. Please, I just can't" Ace begged as he tried to dig his heels in to stop the other from moving. He didn't have much energy to resist however as he had exhausted most of it from trying to pull away from them earlier. Ray held up his hand to get his partner to stop what he was doing.

"Are you being honest this time? You're really going to tell us what's going on with no more of this funny business?" He asked looking the other straight in the eye so he could tell if he was being honest or not.

"Yes! If you get me out of here before he comes I'll tell you anything that you want to know. Just don't tell him see me here with you." Ace repeated panic was in his voice as he spoke rather quickly, lifting his head slightly to try and look and see if there was anyone suspicious who could be watching what was going on and report him.

"Are you on any drugs right now or do you just dole them out but avoid taking any yourself?" Abel asked tilting the other's head back to get a closer look at his eyes to see any signs that would tell him if the other had anything strange running through his system. If he did, it would help explain why he was acting so paranoid.

"I doubt it's drugs considering how lucid his thoughts are. I believe his fear comes from something else." Prose told him. Of course he could tell that since he was the reason that Abel was to read/feel other's thoughts.

"I don't take anything like that. I know better than to touch any of the merchandise, it's only for profit not for self indulgence." Ace replied as he tried to look away from the other.

"Can we please go? The longer we stand here, the higher risk of someone seeing me."

"Perhaps if you had been a little bit more cooperative with us sooner, you wouldn't have to worry about that, now would you." Abel replied as he turned the other in the direction of where their car was parked not too far away.

"If you're good and don't try to make a run for it once we're in the car, I'll let you go and you can't sit comfortable. If not, I'll not hesitate to put these cuffs on you until we reach the station.

"You know that the chief would discipline you if he knew what kind of measures you were taking without having the right authority to do so?" Prose interjected again. Wasn't there a way that he could shut off the system when he didn't need it so that it wouldn't be so noisy all the time.

"I can read your thoughts too, you know. The system only shuts off when it needs to recharge after excessive use in order to not burn out. Otherwise, there's no way to shut it off." Abel tsked slightly at this, what a disappointment.

"As long as you're taking me some place safe that's far away from here, I won't try to get away, I promise." Ace assured them as they moved back towards the car.

Ray didn't quite agree with the way that his partner was handling the situation, but he couldn't deny that the touch of force that he was using was helping them to get some progress.

Once they reached the car he opened the door for them so that Ace could get inside. Rather than taking the front, Able decided that it would be better to sit in the back with the other to make sure that he didn't try to get out during the drive to the station. He wasn't sure that this car had proper child locks.

"Maybe while we are on the drive there since it will take a little bit you can catch us up on a few things that you might've forgotten about and left out during our first meeting." Ray suggested as he turned the key and started the car up. Although anything Ace said here they would only have for off the record use. It would still give them so insight before they reached the station and had a chance to question him properly.

"If you're lying again though. I will get a warrant to search your house and you will quickly find yourself sitting in a jailcell for the next few years with drug charges on your record that won't be so easy to erase." Abel warned. Sitting in the back with the other would also make sure that he would be able to tell if he was lying or not when he told them anything.

He hoped the kid chose the right way to deal with the situation and cooperated with them because he hated having to be hard with younger people who had so much to offer in life if they just decided to turn everything around. After all, he had been one of those people to lose so much when he had wrongly been put in jail Unlike Ace who was actually guilty with something that could be used against him. Still though, he wouldn't it against the kid unless he had to.
