Chereads / The Girl We Desire / Chapter 9 - The New Disguise

Chapter 9 - The New Disguise

The other gang members had discussed something about, supplying something to Jedrick. I thought back to their conversation, I think the bald guy told him something along the line of supplying it in the upcoming week.

What it might be?

Were they trafficking people?

Or was it drugs?

Let us wait and watch.

After buying for Arsenio, we bought some men's suits and clothes for me. He raised his eyebrows at me in question. I gave him a wink and paid for our things. I made up my mind, whether the devil likes me or not he was going to take me as his secretary.

************

The very next week I was standing in front of Jedrick & co, it was a sixty-seven-floor building. It looked so posh and intimidating. I was wearing a suit and my hair was tucked inside my front lace wig. It almost looked like real hair. Thanks to modern technology.

I thank everything holy because I was not interviewed by Jedrick. I had an interview with Mr. Deondro. I took a deep breath and prepared myself for the worst. Here goes nothing. I made my way to the receptionist, who was a young brunette around my age. I cleared my throat and tried to sound masculine.

"Hello!" my voice came a little harsh unintentionally, which made the brunette jump with a squeak. She looked at me with wide eyes, clutching her chest.

"Jesus, you scared me, sir." She squeaked, I gave her a sheepish smile and rubbed the back of my neck.

"Sorry, I'm here for an interview with Mr. Deondro," I informed her, trying my best to sound like a man. She gave me a weird look and nodded her head.

"Please go to floor number fifty-eight." She informed me and handed me my visiting card. I thanked her and made my way to the elevator.

Come on, Adeline, you can do it. You are a big girl; it was just a piece of cake. You faced far worse than this. The door of the elevator closed and I examined my reflection on it. I looked rather short for a man but my curvy body made me look like a fat… no, chubby, yeah that was the word I was searching for, I looked like a chubby young man in this suit.

The elevator door dings open and heaved a sigh and prepared me for the battle that I was about to fight. There were not many people on this floor, only a few were here for the interview, considering the reputation of this company. Maybe, they were picky in selecting candidates for this interview. And there was not a single female among the candidates.

I thanked my stars for deciding to disguise me as a guy.

***********

I made my way out of the building whistling casually as if, I had no care in this world.

Guess what? I got the job.

Who do you think I am? I'm a little criminal. I had the most criminal brain when it comes to my career.

Hey, there was nothing wrong in thinking like a criminal; the thing was you shouldn't be a criminal.

The lesson of the day,

Always think like a criminal.

I aced all his questions and did you know who interviewed me?

Surprise, surprise, surprise, It was the cool guy who I saw with Jedrick, the previous week. His full name was Helius Deondro. Let me rewind the scene that happened in his office.

***********

I was in constant consternation and it was my turn to get in Mr. Deondro's office. I firmly knocked at his door and straightened my shoulder as if, I was going to war. There came a faint 'come in' behind the door.

I took a deep breath and opened it to notice the cool guy that was with Jedrick during my visit to the strip club, the previous week. From the way he behaved around Jedrick, I could say that he was pretty close to him.

What was his name again?

Hedrick?

Cedrick?

Maybe, Helium? As if, Helium balloon. I snickered at my inside joke.

"Come in Mr. Sandros. I'm Helius Deondro, have a seat." His voice gained my attention. He looked so laid back and friendly such a contrast to Jedrick. But appearances could be deceptive.

Even the devil looks approachable until you know its true face.

I tentatively took a seat in front of his desk with a small thank you. He took my CV and took a glance at it.

"I have to admit that you look young for your age Mr. Sandros." His gaze scrutinized my form which made me sweat with apprehensiveness.

"I have been told so," I sat straighter on my seat and made my voice sound a little rougher. He gave me a weird look and started questioning me. I gave him my best answer possible.

"Just as a part of this interview I'm asking you this, what will you do if your boss commits a crime?" he asked me with an intense glance at my face. I was looking for these types of questions.

"My loyalty stays with the person who supports me and my family, sir," I answered him without an eye bat. He gave me a cat-like smile as if, he was satisfied with my answer.

"You speak so fondly of your family, Mr. Sandros." He gave me a lopsided grin. Only if he knew that my family was long dead and everyone was six feet underneath the cemetery.

"I am, sir." I gave him a little smile that doesn't look too feminine.

"You're appointed." Well, that went faster than I expected.

**************

I was to start from tomorrow, as the personal secretary to the devil himself. I made my way to the parking lot and drove off to my apartment.

Arsenio got a job at the Knight's enterprise as the CEO's security guard. He got the job two days ago. Before he joined there, I had to prepare him an identity card since he had none with him. As a part of his job, he had to stay four days a week at the Knight's residency.

He was probably at his job right now. I parked my car at the parking lot of my apartment building and made my way into my apartment.

**************

Arsenio's Pov~

"You are fired!" the witch yelled at the poor guy in front of us. I was a security guard to Satan's mistress who was standing beside me. She was ruthless and insensible, all the poor guy did was spill the coffee on her office room floor, when suddenly she opened her door when he was about to knock on it.

All her employees were scared of her as if, she was going to turn into a monster and hunt them down. I didn't complain though, she had these soft and delicate features as if, she was an innocent angel but in reality, she was scarier than medusa.

What happened now was an accident. Anyone with a little brain and eyesight could say that, but she had to fire him for something as silly as this.

The guy stood still as if, someone poured ice on him. She didn't even take a glance at him and started moving out of the building. I followed her and opened the door for her. After she settled in the back seat of her SUV, I took a seat near the driver.

She was sure as hell spoiled by her daddy dearest. She lives alone in her mansion which was a mile away from her parent's home. I could see that very clearly from her behavior. I met many princesses during the annual ball held every year for the welfare of all kingdoms back in my realm.

Most of them were spoiled rotten. All they think about was money and some rich prince. Most of them were arrogant and ruthless towards everyone that was beneath them. We drove to the airport to pick up someone important. I could say that the person was important from all the hustling and bustling going on around her.

Probably her boyfriend,

We arrived on time, the flight landed two minutes ago. The person will arrive here anytime soon. I scanned the crowd for any threat. The witch beside me looked almost as if, she was excited, at the same time… she looked fretful?

Interesting,

Suddenly her entire face lit up and graced with a breathtaking smile. My heart almost skipped a beat, the keyword was almost. For once she looked like a normal woman. I looked ahead of me to see who brought this smile to her face. A tall, muscular guy with a stoic expression was walking towards us.

Her boyfriend, probably, but I was wrong. A little girl with a pixie cut ran towards her giggling.

"Mommy!!" she squealed and crashed on her leg, hugging it. Ms. Knight laughed at the little girl and carried her in her arms. She looked so happy and contented.
