Chapter 10 - The Blood Ran Cold

The Homeless man kneeled quietly by the tent entrance, and whispered, "This thing started showing up last week. I don't know what the hell it is, I can't tell if it's human or something entirely different. Look." The Homeless man opens the tent entrance slowly and reveals to Fausto the monstrosity that awaits outside.

This humanoid figure appeared to have a strange neon glow to it. The light from its body somehow pierced through the night. It's head perched on its shoulders, almost like its neck was broken, the arms were elongated and dragging on the floor.

"What is that? A sea monster?", whispers Fausto.

"Dunno, luckily, I don't think it's dangerous. Then again I haven't gotten close to it", says the homeless man. "It's not like I want to anyway. Look at how horrible it is", he continued. Fausto hasn't noticed at first because he was distracted by it glow but on a closer look, he noticed that it's body was covered with craters and they move.

"Are animals living inside of it?", asks Fausto. "It looks like it has barnacles growing on its skin", he added in disgust.

The creature shuffled around the street, occasionally letting out a moan or a groan. Whatever it was, it looked like it was in pain to be alive. "How long did you ago did you say this thing started showing up?", whispered Fausto. The homeless man grabbed Fausto's wrist and motioned for him to stay quiet.

The creature caught notice of something, it whipped its head onto the other shoulder into the direction of the disturbance. The sound of the boiling coming from the creature began to louden. The two men stayed quiet and Fausto turned to the homeless to see his reaction, maybe it was a normal occurrence but judging by his facial expressions, he can tell that it was a first for him as well. Suddenly, the thing started an uncomfortable jog towards to the two men in their tent.

Fausto and the Homeless man both backed away from the tent entrance. The creature stopped in its tracks, only a couple feet away from them. This up close, the two men got a better look at what exactly it is. It had the face of a man that appeared to suffer from third degree burns, the nose was gone and pieces of its forehead were scared down to the bone. It's eyes sunken deep into it's skull. Long strands of hair were hanging sporadically on its head. It's body is covered with parasitic animals that would occasionally take a bite from the creature, leaving a crater that oozed a neon green substance. The arms were no longer human in shape, instead it was just a hulking mass of flesh.

Both of the men looked at this abomination with horror. But a small sound caught Fausto off guard, a very tiny squeak. At the very entrance of the tent, a small rat was making it way into the homeless man's home. One more squeak, then the creature bursted into a full sprint to the tent crashing into it, along with the two men.

The creature tramples over the tent causing the tent to be squished, trapping both men inside of it. Losing sight of each under the thrashing of the creature, Fausto tries to fight his way out of the plastic tent that is now beginning to wrap around him like a snake that has just caught it's prey. On the other side he can hear the muffled screams of the homeless man, "Help! Anyone!"

Using his fingers, Fausto attempts to claw his way out of the tent but, unfortunately, the tent is too thick for him to penetrate with only using his fingers. He begins to lose hope but he decides that the best chance of escape is to push the creature off of the tent, or at least enough for him to escape. So with all his strength he retracts his arms towards his body and with one great shove he extends his arms towards the thing. For a second, he can feel the creature on his hands. The hard rocky texture of it's skin but something also weird about it. Fausto couldn't tell if the creature was ice cold or burning hot. All he felt was the sting of both extremes.

The thing budges away enough where, Fausto can crawl away from it but as he begins to run away. He can hear the homeless man still screaming for help. Fausto turns back towards the tent and he can see that the creature is still thrashing around on top of it. He stays there for a moment, frozen in fear. He can see that the thing finally got to the homeless man but before he can see what is going to happen he runs away.

Fausto runs as fast as he can back home, yelling and screaming for help along the way. Before he can reach his apartment door, Alora is waiting for him, "Would you shut up Fausto! Its 2 in the damn-"

Before she can finish her sentence, Fausto runs towards her and pushes himself into her apartment. She closes the door behind her and asks, "What the hell is going on?"

"There was a- a- thing outside-"

"A thing?"

"Yes a big fucking thing!"

"Shhh", Alora makes as she motions to her mouth to be quiet. "Are you sure you're just not super drunk again?"

"Being drunk has nothing to do with what just happened outside. Im telling you Alora, a thing was outside and it ate a homeless man."

Alora just looks at him with a disappointed look and says, "Look Fausto, i'm sure drinking is fun and everything but you have to know your limit. Otherwise you end up like you are right now, passing out in the streets and having a nightmare that you think is real."

With tears in his eyes, "Alora please, you have to believe me. We have to call the cops."

"No we don't, just sleep and you'll forget about this whole thing by the time you wake up in the morning... And would you stop crying, it doesn't make you look cute."

Not knowing what to do, Fausto begins to feel his hands shake and his heart beat faster than what it already was. Without saying anything to Alora he leaves her apartment and goes back to his own apartment. When he enters his own home, the feeling becomes a full fledge panic attack. He feels as if his own lungs are giving up on him, to the point where he falls down and starts to wheeze.

That's all he can recall before he wakes up, the next day came and the familiar pain of a hangover starts to overcome him. But, he can still remember what happened with the homeless man. He starts to think about the man and he never got his name or his children's name.
