Chapter 8 - A Jackal's Loyalty

Cain's POV

Where was she? Cain had to have ran for twenty minutes or more, before he stopped.

Sabera's perfume was getting stronger. He started looking for any clue to her exact location. Cain made himself calm down. If he couldn't control his anger, he could get Sabera killed. Why did he snap at her like that? Cause he was a big fat shit head, that's why. All the girl wanted was someone that would love her no matter what. And instead he stripped the last person she cared for away. He had thought she would be better without him. That she'd find true love in the royal court, but all she wanted was him. Sabera's feelings were as real as his.

"Damn it!" he scolded himself. "Please, let her be ok," he begged, "As long as she's alright, I'll go to Hell with her."

Cain had never wanted to go to Hell. And he'd made that clear with the princess from get go. But now he'd do anything to make things right again.

"Hahaha!" the sound of laughter got Cain's attention.

It was Sabera! Cain took off in the direction of her angelic laugh. He was in the middle of nowhere. Trees surrounded him and kept getting thicker.

"Tempus!" he shouted.

Cain became like air. His body phasing threw the thick trees. The deeper he went the harder it was to phase. But Sabera's laughter got louder. He had to reach her. Once Cain was threw the thick trees, he stopped and his jaw hit the floor.

The sight he saw both made him smile and frown at the same time. On the one side his princess was flying free. Cain had never seen anything so beautiful in his life or death for that matter.

Sabera was a good fifty feet in the air, her wings sparkled with the suns glow. She had let her hair down from it's normal pony bun, whatever that was. It fell as she rode the winds on her back, draping like a blonde waterfall. Sabera's laugh was pure and soothing to his anger.

And on the other hand, Cain spotted Sam, his old jackal buddy. This made Cains jealousy rise. Sam was cheering on Sabera for her air tricks.

Which was what caused Cain to yell, "Jackal!"

Sam froze from the shear force of his growl. The growl of a demon protecting his mate. Sabera also stopped to look at him.

Before Cain could rip Sam apart, Sabera was in his arms, "Oh my gosh!? Cain I missed you"

Those words from her melted all the hatred away.

He squeezed her back, "I missed you, too. Are you alright? That awful thing didn't hurt you did he?"

Cain started to look her up and down for any injury.

Sabera laughed, "Who? Sam? No, he's been a perfect gentleman."

Cain looked over her head to eye Sam. The jackal only waited and shrugged.

Cain sighed, "Hey Sam."

The jackal walk over to them, "Been a long time Cain."

Sabera's POV

I looked between the two men. They seemed tense and awkward.

"So," I broke the new found silence, "Cain, Sam's been letting me fly around out here. He said the land belongs to him. So it is ok."

Cain only grunted. He didn't look happy to see the Jackal.

"Cain?" I drew his attention to me.

Only to realize how we were holding each other.

I jumped back, "Oh, sorry."

He frowned at me, with a sad look. Well buddy, you were the one who rejected me.

Sam lifted his brow, "So your not dating?"

Cain was about to answer but I cut him off, "No. Sam, he's just guiding me back to my father." I looked down at my now fidgeting hands, "That's it."

Sam smiled, "So you're single?"

Cain jumped between us, "Hell, No!"

"What? I was joking," Sam cackled.

The boys went like this for quite a while. So I jumped back into the air. The wind felt nice beneath my wings. My wings were the same as my father's. They're large and looked like they were made of pearls. The only difference was mine had a tent of blue to them. Most likely from my mom. I wonder if I'm anything like her.

"Sabera," Cain interrupted my thoughts, "Come here please."

I landed next to the boys. I was getting better at that part.

"So. What's up?" I asked them.

Sam bowed on one knee. Almost fancy like.

"I, Samuel Jackal, vow everlasting loyalty to the princess of my homeland. I vow to teach, encourage, and protect you with my last breath. With this vow I become your anything, be it friend, teacher, and even if you wish, your dog." Sam smiled at that part," With your blessing, I ask that you accept my vow."

Cain smirked, "You do know if you betray her, you'll be stripped of your demonic powers and burn in the deepest circles of Hell?"

Sam nodded, "I know."

Cain stood straighter at Sam's words. He must have realized Sam was serious. Right at this moment Cain was no longer my friend or teacher. He was my protector, my guardian.

His voice was loud and clear, "Princess Sabera Alesea Morningstar, do you accept, Samuel Jackal's, vow?"

My heart started to beat faster, I didn't know what to do. Through all the confusion only one thing came to mind. I walked up to Sam, who bowed his head. I placed my hand on his head. Images of who he used to be and who he is now flashed in my mind.

"Daddy," a young girl giggled.

"No! Emily!" Sam's memory yelled. BANG! He had taken a bullet for the girl.

My father granting Sam his powers.

His first meeting with Cain.

And then I saw myself opening my wings. To this lowly demon I was a goddess.

"Beautiful," was the word that rang in his head.

I removed my hand, "What do you wish to gain?"

Sam shook from the memories. Tears fell from his cheeks, "A chance to hold my baby, and tell her daddy loves her."

"You know I might not be able to do this," I could hardly control my own emotions.

He nodded, "Even so. I know she'd be proud that for once, I'm doing the right thing."

That was all I needed to know, "I accept your vow."

Sam tackled me like a buffalo.

Cain laughed, "Welcome to the crew, you boob."

Sam jerked his head towards Cain, "Oh, man. You're so dead."

Both boys chased and swung at each other.

Anyone would have thought that they were fighting. But their laughter gave it away. I walked into Sam's place to make dinosaur eggs. Sam had went out before Cain came to get me the ingredients. Nothing better then a jalapeno pepper stuffed with cream cheese, wrapped in a chicken thigh, wrapped in bacon, and baked with cream of mushroom soup. Though a little greasy, it was the one thing my fake mother's mother taught me to make. However for the boys, instead of jalapenos, I got California reapers. Best way to keep a dog loyal is to feed them very well. Or at least that's some peoples belief.
