Chereads / Daughter of a Fallen Angel / Chapter 10 - The Gate

Chapter 10 - The Gate

Sabera's Pov

The day has finally arrived. Cain, Sam, and I, had finished packing. I had woken up with Cain wrapped around me. Still clothed to my utter disappointment.

Every thing from the day before came back, I had broken threw his walls. After we got up from out nap, Cain had made me lunch, ran me a bath, even combed my hair for me. I told him he didn't have to.

But he said, "My girl deserves the best, besides I like doing this."

It made me feel weird at first. But then I realized he was just trying to hard. It made me laugh inside. After packing Sam drove us to the gates. Well it was a massive waterfall in the middle of nowhere. It took about seven hours to get there.

There were other people there too. I looked at them puzzled.

Cain nudged me, "They're demons. Probably here to report to your father on their missions."

"Or trying to take over Hell," Sam piped in.

Cain kicked the back of his seat, "Shut up Sam."

I giggled at them which made them smile.

Sam parked on the side of the road. Cain got out and came over to my door.

He opened it, holding his hand out to me, "Ready, my lady?"

"As I'll ever be," I said as I took his hand.

The second I stepped out of the car, the demons around the gates started cheering. I mean like yelling, "Hooray!" as if they were at the biggest football game of the century. Cain stuck me under his arm and walked me into the crowd. He seemed tense. Probably because so how many people were close to me. Sam fallowed behind. A couple with scales all over came in front of us. They looked nervous.

"Move," Cain commanded.

The woman backed up a step at Cain's word.

Everything went quiet. The others were looking at us, just waiting.

The man didn't move though, "Please, I only ask for a favor."

Cain grunted at him. Oh boy, big bad demon guardian.

I looked over at the female beside him. She was carrying a bundle of, eggs? I then turned to the man and looked deep in his eyes. I saw no bad intentions.

I slipped out of Cain's grip, "What is it that you want to ask, sir?"

"Sabera," Cain mumbled but I ignored him.

The man had gone stone like, "Well.. um.. I just wanted a blessing that my children would grow healthy." He looked shaken. When Cain spoke to him he didn't even budge.

"Please, Princess. Will you bless them," he got down on his knees and motioned for the woman to do the same.

I leaned down and took the bundle she offered to me. The eggs were small, with green and yellow dots. I touched one, it felt warm. I could see flashes as I touched the others. These eggs were dragon demons. They were angry from being taken from their mom. I laughed at the thoughts I could hear from them. Bright lights flashed in all but one of the eggs. When I touched that one, nothing happened. It was dying. Cain had told me dragon demons were rare. Out of the six eggs one was dying. I couldn't let that happen. I took that egg and handed the rest back.

The woman looked worried, "What's wrong?"

For some reason I started to cry. The thought that something so small and innocent was leaving this world. Demons only get one chance, unlike humans. I curled myself around the egg, not really knowing why. My wings covered both of us.

"Sabera!" I heard Cain yell. But his voice sounded miles away.

I cried over the little egg for what seemed like hours.

"Please, don't die little one."

Crack!

Heat radiated from the cracking egg. A purring sound reached my ears. I sat back up, showing both of us. Instead of an egg, I held a baby dragon. It purred and bounced in my lap. I laughed at it.

The mother jumped up and started dancing, "Oh what a joyous day!"

Out of nowhere, something wet hit my face. It was warm and I started hearing people scream. I saw the mother on the ground, bleeding. Cain jerked me up as I clutched the baby dragon and the other eggs. The father was starting to turn from anger at his dead beloved.

"Please take care of them," he roared.

I was in so much shock, Cain had to scoop me and run.

Cain's POV

Cain started running for the gate, Sabera in his arms. She was covered in the female dragons blood. Dragons are rare and dangerous when provoked. So the male transformed, and flew to the source of the attack. Who ever did this must have been aiming at Sabera, and the female just got in the way. Though a terrible occurrence Cain was happy for it.

Just as they reached the gate, Cain turned to find Sam hot on his heels. Demons were scattering like roaches, but a few that could placed barriers around him and the princess.

Cain watched as the great dragon fell from the sky, lifeless.

"Cain," Sabera whispered, "Why?"

He looked down at her, "I don't know."

Sam shouted, "Let's go!"

Cain turned his back to everything and ran threw the gates to Hell.

When they got threw the portal, they were greeted by a party of people. They started cheering like the ones before untill they saw the blood covering the girl and baby in his arms.

Lucifer was stepping out of a black SUV, when he spotted Cain.

He practically teleported to them, taking Sabera, worry plastered on his angelic face.

Cain reluctantly released her, "It's not her blood."

The king physically relaxed, "What happened?"

Cain told Lucifer everything as they entered the SUV and headed to the palace.

"All I could do was get her out of there," he finished.

Cain looked at the sleeping girl in her fathers lap. Sometime along the way she had passed out, the baby dragon and sibling eggs were still in her arms.

Lucifer looked at him, "You did well, son. Don't beat yourself up over this. She's safe."

Cain relaxed after a moment, "I just wish I could have stopped her from seeing that. Where did you send Sam anyway?"

Sam had not come with them.

The king nodded behind them, "To deal with that mess."

Cain had also found that Sam was obedient to the kings orders. And that they had been in contact recently. For what reason, Cain didn't know nor cared at that moment.

"Hey," Lucifer placed a hand on his shoulder, "We will find who did this. But first we need to get Sabera home and cleaned up."

Cain nodded. Home, a strange word to him. But at this moment very comforting.
