Chapter 13 - How to betray the already betrayed

Going back to when I wasn't born yet, I heard from my mother about all kinds of things going on in the capital. The royal fest, the dance festival and days when everyone dressed up and presented themselves in a ballroom.

It was rather simple, my mother was a noble and my father wasn't. He was a soldier, a guard, and one such as a commoner.

My mother was casted out for having a child with my father, a commoner, though they let him keep his position in the capital to look after his family.

But one day, when I was around five or six years old, he came home with a baby.

He said the baby was a noble, and went by the name Aenor.

I snapped my eyes open. How the heck did I doze off in this basement?

I was wrong earlier. Everyone knows Aenor. I'm sure they do. It doesn't matter if they don't know whether I was in contact with Aenor, because all they want is nobles.

No way, I need to get out of here.

I've stayed here for hours now.

I was anxious, and I couldn't stop my thoughts from getting worse. They might find her soon, I need to finish Vadon before that.

I need to stop Vadon.

I need to do something.

I need to kill Vadon.

I need to ... kill .. Vadon.

Kill?

I should kill him?

Kill another human?

"Hey, are you alright?"

Am I really supposed to kill Vadon? Is there no other way? How will I kill a noble? Without awakening my abilities, I'm just a commoner.

"Quinn?"

I can't breathe.

"Quinn!"

I looked up at one of the room members. "Huh?" It felt like he had shook me awake from my thoughts.

"You seemed like you were about to have a panic attack." He explained.

"Braun?"

"No Alfred."

I nodded. I couldn't believe I let everything get to me. I need to keep my mind cool. I can't go on like this.

"Um, Quinn," He started, jamming his thumb behind him. "There's someone looking for you."

"What?"

Alfred moved, giving me enough place to look at the basement gates. There was a man, in his twenties? mid twenties? Just standing there with folded arms.

His sight fell on me, and he narrows his eyes. "Are you Quinn Saymour?" He asked loud enough for his words to reach me. The basement fell silent as the voice echoed. Heads turned and gazes shifted.

"Yes." I didn't know why he was aware of my name, but he walked forward and stood in front of me, almost like a tower. I felt small under his glare.

"What are you doing here?" He spoke through his teeth. I had no option but to stand facing him.

"What do you mean?"

"You are a half noble. You're supposed to be on the training grounds, not with these low-lives."

I gulped when I heard few gasps. "Im-"

He grabbed my arm and started dragging me with him.

I saw everyone's faces as I was being taken away, the shock, the amusement, the growing whispers and the look of betrayed. It had been just few hours since I was pushed into this room, but it felt unfair that I was the only one who stepped out for the first time.

"Wait-- wait!" I held onto this man's grip on my arm. "Let go!"

"Shut up, Master Abel is looking for you."

"Master Abel?" I frowned. "Why in the world-"

"Do you have the sword?" He cut me off mid sentence. And I looked at him as if he was incredulous.

"Yes." I pointed back to the path we came from. "Back in the basement."

"What?"

We stopped walking, more like he stopped hauling me by my arm. "What?"

"How dense are you in here?" he rammed his two fingers into my forehead while scowling. "Why are you empty handed? Go get your fricking weapon."

That hurt. My forehead hurt.

I turned around. "You were the one who pulled me out without letting me breathe."

"Get your sword, you twat."

"What a maniac." I cringed, walking back into the room.

I picked up my belongings off the place I was sitting in, avoiding all the eye contacts. I know they were looking directly at me.

"Are you really a half noble?" someone from the back spoke.

I slowly nodded.

"What a disappointment." Someone else around me sneered.

"But--" I took a deep breath. I had to say it. "I'll let you guys know what's going on outside. And maybe free you."

The last words barely rolled out of my tongue. I was skeptical about my own abilities. It was as if I was running from everything thrown at me.

"We'll wait."

"Huh?" I gulped.

"We'll wait for your word, Quinn."
