Chapter 58 - Waiting

The three of them ate, in what for Maria, was awkward silence; the boys on the other hand, did not seem bothered in the slightest.

Since no one spoke at breakfast, it gave Maria time to dwell in her thoughts.

After what Arthur had told her about the King and Queen, she figured that they would not like her solely based on the fact that she was engaged to Arthur and not Julien, but she did not think meeting them would go that badly the first time.

Her future in-laws had a distaste for her already, and without even taking the time to get to know her.

The whole situation made her eternally grateful for her own parents who loved her and Jason equally and unconditionally.

At least she and Arthur would have them. Hopefully he would be able to consider them as his own family one day soon.

In between bites of her croissant, Maria stole a glance at Julien. He at least had defended Arthur slightly, and it made Maria curious as to why he did not seem to be cold like his parents.
