Once the pair made it inside the castle walls, Maria made another unsettling discovery about the state of her dress. She felt the cold tile beneath her feet and realized that she no longer had her heeled slippers that matched her dress.
"Arthur," she whispered.
"Hmm?" he hummed as he kept an eye out for anyone walking about that could see them.
"I think I lost my shoes in the water," she said with regret.
A crooked smile immediately pulled at Arthur's lips and a chuckle rumbled in his chest. "I can get you new shoes, it's not a problem," he reassured her.
They rounded a corner and a young valet that looked about Arthur's age came strolling about. He had short, blonde hair and brown eyes that looked like Maria's. When he saw the couple who was leaving a trail of water behind them, his brow furrowed and he rushed over to them.
